GOOGLE help

Thread Starter
So I want to advertise my business on Google and I'm not sure how it works.

I havent gotten my website up and running yet, but when I do how do I get my site to come up when somoene searches for it?

I see ADWords but it seems that its only for those ads on the right side of the search page. When someone searches for my product how do I get it to come up on teh main page? Is this automatic once you host your domain?

Anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks

The most important thing is to make sure your META tags are set up right for each page.

Google will find it on it's own, but you can speed up the process a little here:

I thought that google ignored META tags???

Edit from the FAQ above: "Google's search engine also analyzes page content. However, instead of simply scanning for page-based text (which can be manipulated by site publishers through meta-tags), Google's technology analyzes the full content of a page and factors in fonts, subdivisions and the precise location of each word."

Ah, I forgot about Google's "better" method of ignoring METAs.

But to that end, it is important to have META tags for search engines that do use them. It is nice to be listed high in Google, but a good % of people still use others (Yahoo, MSN, and AOL mostly).
