Anderson appeals to a peculiar sensibility, so even though I love his films, I can see why many others feel differently.

Ordered Bottle Rocket ('96) from DDD last week and should get to it soon. I wasn't aware that there were two different versions. What's the deal?

I've seen them all except "Life Aquatic" and disliked them all. (I've seen one version of "Bottle Rocket" -- don't know what the difference is.) I find Wes Anderson's "comedy" totally NOT amusing. Too bad, because I love Owen Wilson.

The earlier version of Bottle Rocket is a short film. Kind of like the earlier, short version of Sling Blade with Molly Ringwald.

There was/is a rumor that the reason there hasn't been an SE of Bottle Rocket is because Anderon wants to put the short version of Bottle Rocket on the disc, but they can't get music clearances for one or more songs.

Updated to include Bottle Rocket. I really enjoyed the film; it has the same sort of quirky vitality that I've enjoyed so much in his other efforts. Understandably, it doesn't have the polish of the other three films, but it evinces all the potential that he would later realize. Owen Wilson's performance was superb as well.

I still have RUSHMORE (1998) to watch on VHS...though I can't say that his quirky style is exactly to my liking!
