The Bird with The Crystal Plumage and Suspiria are on my to rent list, but I don't have very high hopes for this director.

I saw Suspiria at a west end cinema back in the late 70's, a memorable experience, the stereo sound was so effective I kept looking over my shoulder, powerful use of sound to increase unease, you'd hear asthmatic breathing noises coming from behind or your sides and you can't help shifting in your seat you know, brrr.
I loved the weird Goblin score and immediately went and bought the album which I still have somewhere. Anyway it was downhill from there I wasn't as impressed with Argento's later output and lost interest in his work by the early 90's.

Oh thats bollocks! I only posted a couple of Michael Bay Armageddon and Pearl Harb'ou'r screenshots in there, checked it out recently Zen me lad? The Spruce Goose currently appearing and before you cry fowl that's the Howard Hughes super plane.

The only Argento I have on dvd is Suspiria, the super cool 2-disc special edition with booklet and postcards. I'm sure I still have Inferno and Tenebrae on vhs somewhere, with so many films piling up and my memory getting worse with age I no longer remember what I have.

I guess those giving PHANTOM OF THE OPERA higher than a BOMB are doing so because of Asia's nude scenes?

Re: FAMOUS DIRECTORS CHECKLIST SERIES - Volume #114 - The Films of DARIO ARGENTO

My favorite director of horror films, absolutely. Didn't Welles declare him the greatest director of all time?

The Card Player (2004)
Sleepless (2001)
Phantom of the Opera (1998) 6/10
The Stendhal Syndrome (1996) 5/10
Trauma (1993)
Two Evil Eyes (1990) (episode "The Black Cat")
Opera (1987)
Phenomena (1985) 8/10
Tenebre (1982)
Inferno (1980) 6/10
Suspiria (1977) 10/10
Deep Red (1975) 8/10
The Five Days (1973)
The Tram (1973) (TV)
Four Flies on Grey Velvet (1971)
The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971) 5/10
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) 6/10

Suspiria, of course, is my favorite, along with Phenomena and Deep Red, although a trusted friend tells me Tenebre is his best film. As much as Phantom of the Opera sucked, it also had an inspired side, and I would venture to say Argento is the first director to really crack the code of that story.

Re: FAMOUS DIRECTORS CHECKLIST SERIES - Volume #114 - The Films of DARIO ARGENTO

Suspiria - 6/10

I might rate this higher on a rewatch, since my initial experience was on VHS. No plans for that right now, however.
