Six Feet Under Season 5 - Page 2

Wow - a total non-episode...they kept jumping back and forth like something MIGHT happen, but it never did...

I think the only thing of relevence that panned out from this episode is that Rico got laid...

That's nothing new.

Quite a lot happened, actually. We learned that George is getting worse, not better, and we found out something about the origins of his mental instability. We also learned something about Maggie's background, and with Brenda already acting discontented in her marriage to Nate, his conversation with Maggie holds a lot of suggestion.

David and Keith found out that they can't adopt and have no choice but to proceed with a surrogate mother. Claire's world is closing in on her, between her mother cutting off her funds and Billy sliding into madness (of which she seems to be stunningly unaware).

Granted, the high point of the episode was probably Illeana Douglas' return, but that's because her character is so funny. She and Arthur would make a lovely couple.

Could someone refresh my memory as to what happened with Illeana Douglas's character when she was on the first time? I remember her being hired when Rico left and then being fired but I can't recall the reason.

Speaking of Arthur, I hope he comes back for a few episodes.

She spoke of it in the last episode. I believe that she broke one of Ruth's cherished heirloom glasses at a time when the home was particularly stressed. (when isn't it) It feels like anyone of them could just snap at any moment.

That's what I remember anyway.

About the final episode....

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
A lot of people have mentioned Ruth dying during the last episode. I can see that as a good way to end the series. It could show Ruth and Nate Sr. standing together in the funeral home. It would be a good way to bookend the series(with a parent dying in the first and last episodes).

I was out tonight and haven't had a chance to watch the latest episode, but I did discover some interesting information on HBO's site.

Beginning Sunday, July 10, 2005, HBO is moving 6FU back to Sunday at 9pm.

I thought tonights episode was pretty good. It was kind of funny seeing the series two "crazy" people having a conversation.

I noticed that too. I'm glad. I'm more accustomed to watching new episodes on Sundays.

Two crazy people? Please, every one of them is nuts. That was some birthday party.

Now, what is everyones take on the bird? What was that supposed to represent? I have some theories. And what kind of bird was it? Is that a common California bird?

I thought this episode was a great example of what makes this show so great. What a character study. So many great moments:

- The conversation between George and Billy outside.
- The conversation between George and Ruth in the bedroom after the party.
- The conversation between Nate and his dead father.
- I like how all the characters (or at least the Fishers) are just completely losing it more and more every episode.
- So what's up with that surrogate? She seems like a freak.

From now on, when I see one of those "warning, I go from 0-to-b!tch in 1.3 seconds" bumper stickers, I'll recall the reaction to David's inquiry over the caffeine.

Very true.

Great to see Nate Sr. again. I believe that was his first appearance this season.

Glad to see Billy finally loose his shit. I didnt expect Claire to fuck someone though, but I guess it fits well.

claire annoys me. she needs to go.

Does anyone know for sure how many episodes Season 5 will be?

1 - 2 - 3 were 13 episodes.

4 was only 12.

So I would like to know what Season 5 will be.

Thanks!

Twelve is now the HBO standard order for a series. So unless they need extra time to conclude the series, I would expect 12.

Guess 12 fits on a DVD better than 13.

pretty good ep ... almost hard to watch ... especially the whole birthday party sequence. i mean, i felt completely caged in ... just like i'm sure nate was feeling.

i dunno about claire sleeping with the other dude so quickly ... i mean, she wasn't that sleazy in past episodes ... was she? anyway, i think that's just a catalyst to blow billy's gasket.

loved the dialog between billy and george ... that was great.

HBO has posted its August schedule, which confirms that this last season is 12 episodes. The final episode will air on August 21; it appears to be an hour and a half.

The following Sunday, August 28, sees the premiere of the new series Rome (already under discussion in another thread).

Thanks Mike.

This means no mad dash to split episode 7 with half on each tape. I use 2 tapes to tape each season, unitl I can buy the DVD's.

I there an episode scheduled on July 4th? Don't see it in the listings.
Yes, the next Episode, 56 "Eat A Peach" airs as normal, 7/4 9pm.
That's surprising to me. Last year July 4th was on Sunday and they didn't show one then, they just skipped that week. Nobody is going to be home to watch it. It's rare for any network to air new content on a holiday for that very reason.
Well I got the info from the Full Schedule for Six Feet Under on HBO's web site. So I guess it's accurate.
The preview after last week's episode said a new episode would air on Monday, July 4. Don't forget that SFU moves to their old Sunday night slot on July 10.

My guess is, since this is the last season of SFU, HBO isn't too concerned with how many view it Monday when it premieres vs. seeing one of the encore showings. I think they just want to finish it up to make room on their line up for whatever.

so what did everyone think of the episode? sad seeing no one post about this show anymore

It looks like Ruth is taking advice and moving George into a home.
i liked it... for once, the show was a little more hopeful than normal.

I liked this episode too. The family member squabbling over how the funeral should be probably is indicative of most funerals, sadly enough.

While I wish Ruth would take care of George, she seems pretty set to do things for herself.

Claire need to wake up and get moving with her life. She's starting to turn into Nate 5 years ago, bumming around, doing little as possible, get high whenever she can. Good call for Nate to call her on that.

David and Keith need to distance themselves away from Crazy Want To Get Pregnant Lady.

Kudos to Vanessa for lighting into Rico for disclosing personal information to the principal, althought I didn't like it when she defended Julio with the pathetic "My child wouldn't do that" argument.

I know this is awfully late, but I didn't know that Nate was turning 40. I could've sworn that his character was just past 30 when he came home for the funeral.
