Re: THE GREAT DIRECTOR’S CHECKLIST SERIES - Volume #55 - The Films of DAVID CRONENBER

A History of Violence /

existenz 0 /

A History of Violence was my first Cronenberg film that I saw, and I liked it a lot, great characters, a lot of tension, good story, etc. So I then watched existenz, and my gosh, what a complete and utter waste of film. It ranks in top 10 worst movies I've ever seen.

So my question is, do most of David's films resemble A History of Violence, or Existenz? Any recommendations for films that are more like A History of Violence?

I love David Cronenberg's films, although he's frequently made films that don't connect with. My favorite is Videodrome, followed by Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch and A History of Violence. The worst was the completely worthless Species-prototype Rabid. Ugh.

On the whole, however, I find him on of the most literate and mature directors working today, and eagerly await Eastern Promises.

added Eastern Promises (2007) - 5/10

I guess I'm the only one who found this incredibly dull and unoriginal.
