MMM, overflowed the toilet you did Obi-Wan. Much anger you should sense in me.

From now on, take my shower before you I will. Use all the hot water you do.

MMM, do chors you must. Tired I am of watching you sit around and play video games. Learn the ways of the vacume you will.

Why do I have to do all the chors?

Outrank you I still do.

I have a STAR WARS question for all the diehard fans. I've never been too keen on SW, but I have seen STAR WARS, EMPIRE, and PHANTOM MENACE. Now I'm hearing that the new film is pretty strong, so I'd like to go the whole route and really experience the entire saga for the first time.

Now the question -- what's the best order to view the 6 films in? The way they were first released, or in chronological order? That is, which makes the most sense and which is the most rewarding experience? Thanks.

Both ways have their pros and cons. I dont think it would make much difference since you have seen 4 and 5. You might as well go the chronological route.

I always thought the cave on degabah was some dark place where yoda perhaps killed a sith (that sith would now be known as dooku, or possibly maul for all I knew) and the reason Yoda was hiding on degabah was becasue all the darkside force from that dead sith would kinda mask his presence. That way vader or palpy couldn't find him.
But now I don't know what to think. Was it just a regular cave? and yoda was just trying to test/scare luke?

as for your question joe, it is kinda of hard to answer cause I've seen them all countless times so I really have no perception of what order is best anymore. You'll miss out on some of the little tie-ins if you watch the pt first. but you probably wouldn't catch them anyways considering you haven't watched the OT countless times or read counless forums on starwars. If it were me for the first time, I would watch PT the OT. But that's just me.

Joe, I would go for watching the movies in chronological order. I did that myself this week, and it enhanced all of the films IMHO.

6,2,4,1,3,5!

I just got through watching Episodes I & II and I must say that Ep II held up remarkably well for me. Much better than Ep I. I thought the tone and flow of AOTC was more consistent than TPM. The love story dialogue didn't bother me as much as I previously thought it did (including the infamous fireplace scene). I guess because I know what they were trying to accomplish with it. As clunky and cheesy as some of the dialogue/scenes were between Hayden and Natalie it never took me out of the story. Could it have been more polished? Absolutely, but for me it never took away from the story.

On the other hand, Jar-Jar buffoonery seemed to bother me more this time around in Episode I, especially in the climatic battle scene. His antics kept you from maintaining that intensity the ending battles usually have. I mean GL would cut from the lightsaber fight to Jar-Jar screaming and yelling like a 2 year old. Whatever intensity was built up in the previous scene was taken right away.

It's just interesting to see how my impressions have changed over time. I still enjoy both movies immensely but it seems AOTC has grown more on me than TPM.

Has anyone else had different impressions on the previous 2 episodes during subsequent viewings? Especially in light of seeing Ep III (which I have not seen yet).

I mentioned this in the ROTS thread. But, felt it was better put here.

After seeing ROTS on Friday. I decided to watch the original trilogy again. It is amazing how much different I looked at the whole Darth/Luke/Emporer dynamic. I felt more of an emotional impact from their scenes than I ever noticed.

Just finished ANH with my wife. Oddly enough, a few details stuck out, but it's still Star Wars. Frankly, watching these in order will be rather interesting, with SW as this light, fresh space adventure between the mythic ROTS and ESB.

It's almost quaint and out of place. SW is still such a great movie.

I'll check out ESB and ANH later.

Take care,
Chuck

Interesting strategy you have there Chuck to watch them in the order of 1 2, 3, 4, 5, 4.

I knew you meant ROTJ but I just couldn't resist...I mean I know some don't like the movie, but I've got to question how replacing it with ANH in the viewing order makes sense.

Just having a little SW fun right now, yeah I know fun and Star Wars who would've thought they mix so well?

Joe, I'd definitely go with Episode Order but no matter what you do, save Return of the Jedi for last. You're in a pretty unique position with what you've seen and haven't seen and I think you'll get a lot more out of ROTJ if you are seeing it for the first time after having seen all of the rest.
Casey,
Well, I end on a high note with a pimp medal session.

I did mean ROTJ...my bad.

Kevin, we have orders that aren't chronological, and still end with VI

Take care,
Chuck

I'm sure you're referring to the Ernest Riser patented 4,5,1,2,3,6 order but that seemed to be meant more for preserving as much impact for the first time viewers as possible (specifically surprises in Empire). He's already seen Empire so I think that mitigates the impact of that order somewhat. At this point any order will probably do though I'm just stressing its probably best if ROTJ is saved for last.

AOTC on FOX tonight...is it in HD ?

If so, does anyone know if its being upconverted or what ?

There is a lot of comedy that can be done with Yoda. I love the scene somebody proposed of Yoda and Obi-Wan having to live as roommates for a while on Tatooine.

Yea, they could get into heated argument and split their apt down the center with a big white line, with the bathroom on one side and the kitchen on the other, and let the hilarity ensue !
It'll probably be HD and zoomed and cropped to fit a widescreen TV. I think that's how they did it when it showed on HBO or one of the other cable channels.

"Forget you that greatest of all Jedi I am! When the bathroom across the room I am using, my ally is the Force!"

"Okay, okay! Forget having a line! I don't need Yoda urine flying over my Bantha Doodles!"

"Green it is! Eh heh heh heh!"

"You've seen Obi-Wan and Yoda go into hiding on Tatooine to hide from the Evil Empire. This fall, sit back and laugh as FOX presents Jedi Nights, a sci-fi comedy following Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda's hilarious training sessions and roommate battles. Coming back from the dead is Qui-Gon Jinn, who has some hilarious tricks up his sleeve for his new apprentices as he's learned some crazy stuff that only people that are one with the Force could know about."

I doubt it's HD at all. They've shown episodes IV-VI and I in the last few weeks, and they've all been pan & scan non-HD.

It looks pretty HD to me...
It's just like I thought. Cropped, zoomed. Looks brilliant otherwise. Too bad I'm coming in so late. I love this movie.

Ho, man. The Lars homestead looks so good!

Different take in the sandpeople's hut. Shmi usually says, "Oh, you look so handsome!" That was missing. It'll be interesting to see what the confession scene is like.

Same confession scene as the DVD.
The movie is edited different on TV? Differently from "THIS MOVIE HAS BEEN EDITED FOR TIME"?
My memory of Shmi's death scene is different from what I just saw, but I could be mistaken. I am pretty sure she told him he was handsome, though.

By the way, what would have happened if Obi-Wan had agreed to Dooku's offer to join together to defeat the Sith? I don't think it would have meant Obi-Wan having to go to the Dark Side. He could have said, "Yeah, get me out of here, and we'll get together with the Council and figure out how to root out this Sidious." Of course, that's not the response Dooku wanted or expected.

Actually I think that would have been Dooku's ultimate plan. Much easier to take on your master when you already have an apprentice ready and willing. He probably wouldn't have tried to bring Obi-Wan into the Sith immediately but I think Dooku's ultimate goal would have been Dooku as the Lord of the Sith with Obi-Wan as his apprentice. I imagine he was quite fond of Obi-Wan since they were "Jedi Family," so to speak.
Definitely cropped HD this time around. Now I'm beginning to wonder if it wasn't my local affiliate playing the other movies in SD for the last 4 weeks.

I'm still only about 70 pages into the ROTS novel, but Dooku did mention that to Palpy. It was Palpy's idea to sway Anakin, but Dooku held on to the hope that OBW would join him. He said since OBW was QGJ's apprentice, he felt like his Grandfather.
Speaking of the novel, I have about 80 pages left and its been a great read so far. Outstanding complement to the film. The author seems to have decided that he can't outdo the movies in terms of spectacle so he spends a lot of time on the thoughts and emotions and really nails it.

The best scene so far is a scene where Obi-Wan visits Padme before going off to fight Grievous. Its a wonderful scene between the two of them that demonstrates the love both have for Anakin and, more than anything else I've read, really belonged in the film.
The Ep III novel made it pretty clear the Dooku wanted OBW instead of Anakin.

I think the best order for watching the saga for someone who is a Star Wars virgin would be 1-6.

I don't see the big deal about trying to keep the 'No, I am your father' revelation at the expense of so much else.

Imagine watching 1-6 with no prior knowledge whatsoever. Up until Revenge of the Sith, you would think the story was about this chosen Jedi who will grow up and become the greatest Jedi, free slaves, and bring peace to the Republic. Imagine the shock and horror when the events take their tragic turn in Episode III.

To me, for someone who knows nothing of the saga, the surprise turn of Anakin in Episode III far outweighs the revelation in Episode V.
The problem with going 1-6 blindly is that who in their right mind would want to watch more after watching Episode I?
I've just taken a look at the tone poems on Disc 2 of the TPM DVD set, and in light of ROTS, they are absoulutely poignant and brilliant. Definitely ahead of its time back in 1999.

Anakin: What if dreams came true?

Along those same lines, are Anakin's confessional lines about preventing death, what ultimately...well, you know...
