Here's the other Triumph clip I mentioned earlier. Not SW related, but still absolutely classic.

It's indeed classic!

excellent.

It's only fair to report back to you all that Edwin did NOT make our SW support group meeting last weekend. We were left to scramble for an entree since Edwin promised to bring chicken salad. Fortunately, there was a nearby street vendor selling Wampa Burgers.

Tim's just joking. I think Edwin is up in Canada, for example.

Besides, you don't serve Wampa Burgers at a Star Wars gathering in Texas. You get the Jawa Ass Burgers from Whataburger (and my head still explodes like the ghost in the Capitol One commercial from that particular Chuck Mayer slam ).

That's the Jawa Ass Burger with double meat double cheese on a toasted bun with jalapeño’s IIRC.

I don't know if this is funny or frightening but a guy in Seattle was pulled over and arrested for reckless driving when he was caught doing 110 mph to get home in time to bid on a Star Wars item on eBay. More than anything, I'm curious as to what he wanted to bid on.

Force not with Star Wars fan nabbed speeding for eBay bid

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

I wonder what the item was too. I'd also like to know what kind of memorabilia he had in his car. I've never heard of a "mobile" SW collection.

Oh, and for anyone who reads the story in that link, be sure to scroll down and check out the follow-up comments. Some of them are pretty damn funny.

No one wants to do a new thread marking today (the 19th) is 10 years to the day that Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace hit theaters? I didn't even like the movie and you guys are going to make me do it if no one else does.

I like the movie very much. Let's celebrate!

Why Pete, so you can explain at great length why you didn't like it?

Hey come on you knew it was the 10th anniversary. No one else would know or admit to knowing. You're a closet Episode I fan aren't you? [Pete blushes] Jar Jar Binks toy on your desk? hmmm?[STOP IT STEVE!]

I'm not a huge fan of the prequels and just really watch them as visual effects showcases, some of the sound effects are pretty good too. But if I had to pick one of the 3 films, my guilty pleasure favourite is the one everyone seems to hate, Episode II Attack of the Clones, soppy love story and dire dialogue aside that last 45mins of noisy mayhem was pretty impressive. Sith was too depressing and glum and Phantom Menace had some good bits, which all seem to feature Ray Park.

It's marked on my Sideshow calendar. We'll be watching it tonight.

I think all SW stuff should just stay here rather than starting a new thread. Anyways, I'll be watching The Phantom Menace today.

A few days ago, The Force.net put up a link to a fun article about the anticipation for the movie here: Top 10 Memories of Anticipating The Phantom Menace | PopcornMonster.com

Steve, you're not crazy. Clones is one of my favorites. I thought each PT movie was better than the last.

May 1999 was simply an amazing time to be a Star Wars fan. Lots of great, great memories.

Definitely! My oldest daughter, now 14, was 4 when we saw TPM. Every day she would ask me to take her to see it, and we ended up seeing it a little over 20 times. Feels kinda weird that it has been 10 years already though.

I think that sums up part of the problem The anticipation is far more fondly remembered than the actual film.

Agreed.

And Steve, you are a kook. At least TPM had Liam Neeson

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

I love the Prequel Trilogy, still cannot understand the hate everyone gave it. Sure, there's a bit of wooden acting and some annoying characters. It also had some unconvincing dialog and an overabundance of special effects.
But the Original Trilogy had those as well.
Yet, everyone hates the new films for them, and applauds the older ones. People (I'm not saying that they're on this forum, but they're certainly there) who think Lucas raped their childhood are just sad and/or being over dramatic.

So here is an attempt to chronicle each and every screening of TPM that I attended...I still have my ticket stubs someplace. I think I saw it a few more times than this, but these are the ones I can remember:

1. 5/19/1999 (Kerasotes Showplace East--Bloomington, IN)
2. 5/20/1999 (Kerasotes Showplace East--Bloomington, IN)
3. 5/22/1999 (Showplace 16 and IMAX--Indianapolis, IN)
4. 5/24/1999 (Carmike Cinema 9--Minot, ND)
5. 5/26/1999 (Carmike Cinema 9--Minot, ND)
6. Date unknown (Kerasotes Showplace East--Bloomington, IN)
7. Date unknown (Kerasotes Showplace East--Bloomington, IN)
8. Date unknown (Kerasotes Showplace East--Bloomington, IN)
9. Date unknown (Kerasotes Showplace East--Bloomington, IN)
10. Date unknown (United Artists 96th Street--Indianapolis, IN)
11. Date unknown (but sometime in fall/winter when TPM was rereleased) (Kerasotes Showplace East--Bloomington, IN)

Jar Jar, Jar Jar
There on Naboo
Just a boom da gasser
Keeps Jar Jar on my mind (Jar Jar on my mind)

My favorite prequel by far was Clones.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

Feels like I was just in line for this one. I still get the 'prequel itch' when late May rolls around, but today I look back ten years and realize how bitter and jaded I've become. I'll never consider TPM as great, but I watched portions of it last night (it was after midnight, so it counts as the 19th), and a good deal of it still works for me. Obi-Wan's single duel with Maul is INTENSE and remarkably well done without being overly flashy. Maybe its nostalgia, but I'll take what I can get.

Maybe I'll throw in the import LD tonight. (Hey, what was I going to do? Buy it on VHS?)

Yeah that whole 5 minutes with Ray Park in the movie was great (actually got to meet him a couple of weeks ago).

I brought this up because seeing Episode I and the buzz around the theater before the movie started was one of the most amazing theater experiences I've ever been a part of.

The movie itself though I didn't enjoy, and no, that doesn't make me a "Lucas hater" or something.

It is interesting to look back at it, I can remember leaving for the theater to pick up my friends like it was yesterday.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

The duel with Darth Maul was one of the major highpoints of the prequels, and worth waiting for. He doesn't say much but was still a much more effective and memorable villain than say Eric Bana's nutjob Romulan in the new Star Trek.

Attack of the Clones. The most enjoyable of the prequels in my opinion. Worth watching if only to see gorgeous Natalie Portman in action. Look at that luscious butt.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

To celebrate TPM, I watched The Terminator tonight

But, truth be told, I have only fond memories of May 19th, 1999. I loved seeing the film in theaters, and I loved being excited and capable of feeling like that again. That level of hype and excitement for a movie will not be seen again in this generation and maybe quite a bit more.

As for the film, I think TPM has it charms. I enjoy Liam and Ewan. The final lightsaber duel(s) are exceptional, and I agree the Obi Wan/Maul scrap has real emotion and energy. It was great to have SW back. While I may not love the films like some (or even really like one of them - it also has it's moments), I'm still glad GL made them, and made them his way.

Happy 10 Years!
