I guess that's the truth. SW is the only film that I went to see at least 10 times theatrically, including the time I saw it in re-release. I stopped going when the "Special Editions" were released in the theatres. At that point, it stopped being "my" STAR WARS and became someone elses. In hindsight, I have to wonder what fascinated me about SW. When I finally decided to watch the "special edition" of STAR WARS I couldn't help but think that the story really wasn't all that I remembered it to be.
Still, the original iteration of this film holds a special place with me based just on the number of theatrical visits I made in order to see it. it also sticks because of the craziness that ensued when it was originally released. I still remember the news stories about people who saw it forty or fifty times in its original release. I even vaguely remember a story about somene who saw it over 100 times. IIRC, a ticket back then was about $3.50, so that guy spent over 350 bucks on STAR WARS initial release.
What would 350 1977 dollars be today?
