Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

I totally forgot how bad that show was. No wonder Lucas tried to have it vanish.

I was thinking how bad it was that Bea Arthur sang...Then I heard Carrie Fischer's bit at the end.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

Lucas allegedly hates this thing so much, yet Chewie's family is canon, and Hasbro made a Boba Fett figure based on the cartoon segment. Go figure.

Hey Tim -- I haven't been in these threads for a while, but your theater looks great!

I was going to comment that even though I'm an OSU guy, I like your big pic of Kyle Field... very cool!

As for the Aggies, you guys did have a rough year, so keep your chin up.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

It's hard to believe it's been four years since Sith, and harder to believe that it was that long ago that I built my Lego Arc-170 and Wookiee Catamaran (both long since dismantled). At the time, I was desperate for the Republic gunship, but it had a very short release window under the Attack of the Clones product line. Now, I've seen it going for around $500. I was hoping it would be rereleased for their new Clone Wars line, and now they have done so. As far as I can tell, the only real changes are the included figures. There is new nose art, but I assume that is some kind of optional sticker. In any case, I'm glad it's back on the market. The $119 SRP is steep, but I don't want to miss it this time around. I'll probably even build my ARC again. I'm in a Lego state of mind!

You have got to be kidding me. Have any of you seen the video at the link provided below?

Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily TEASER: ‘The People vs George Lucas’

This upcoming feature documentary, The People vs George Lucas, intrigues me because it features so many Industry types talking about Lucas in a negative way as they debate his legacy. (Like calling him the "anti-Christ" and "evil genius of marketing"....) Those interviewed include Lucas intimate and producer Gary Kurtz, Sandy Lieberson (former head of production at 20th Century Fox), Dale Pollock (author of Skywalking), producer Anthony Waye, and David Prowse (aka Darth Vader). But also, sadly, second-rate film reviewers and writers. Presumably, the top ones were too scared to diss George. The documentary comes out in 2010--Nikki Finke

I'd like to take this opportunity to announce my own documentary entitled "TravisR Vs. Jealous Hollywood Types Who Want To Have The Success That George Lucas Has Had And Losers Who Need To Move On Because It's Been A Decade Since The Phantom Menace Came Out So If It's So Bad Why Continue To Waste Your Life Talking About It?"

I guess the title will be shortened to TVJHTWWTOHTSTGLHHALWNTMOBIBADSTPMCOSIISBWCTWYLTAI on the internet.

Look, I've been a critic of Lord Lucas for years now. The guy does some great things and some bad things like most filmmakers in his position, but blaming this cat for the fall of cinema as we know it is a little...much. While I don't think the prequels are nearly the train wrecks that they're made out to be, although I do like the cartoon series a great deal more, the whole "raping of my childhood" thing is ridiculous in my opinion. But, to each his own.

Exactly, Terry. I'll be the first to say Lucas is far from infallible(Episode I, the botched DVD release of the OT, etc), but I also respect the good things he has done over the years. Hell, the guy gave us two of the greatest trilogies in movie history and that's certainly more than most people can claim. To make a documentary like this is absolutely asinine. Some people are just pathetic beyond words and really need to move on with their lives.

For what it's worth, I love Star Wars but I find those guys as equally embarassing. At least, those guys are putting love out there though. Really weird and creepy love but that's still better than anger and bitterness about Jar Jar Binks.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

I have to agree with Terry about some of the remarks made about george. I know that some people really hate him. they think star wars is god and he screwed it up. I didn;t think the prequels were that bad or even indy 4 for that matter.

if you live near SF, CA.. there is wondercon at the end of the month.. both carrie fisher and mark hamill will be there and some other star wars related characters.

That's true, but keep in mind that one is capable of loving something only as much as he's capable of hating it (or vice versa).

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

It's a three minute trailer. Maybe people should wait for and watch the entire show before showering condemnation on the people being interviewed. All of those clips are being taken out of context of the participants full interviews. They are sound bites that are leading to conclusions which may not be even close to accurate.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

Trailers are generally meant to set the tone for a film and I think it's pretty clear this documentary will be anything but a "love letter" to GL. I'll gladly apologize if I'm wrong, but I don't plan on that being the case.

Yeah, just the title shows where they stand and that it's really an opinion piece that will most likely call itself a documentary. Like Brent, I've got no problem admitting if I'm wrong though.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

Pretty sad....some of these guys need to move on and find something meaningful in their life to enjoy. Wow. Get over IT.

I hope in the end this becomes more of a reflection of the bad sport bitter people & not Lucas.

When you read some of the threads, even here on the HTF; we all have our favorites and bias. I am guilty of this as well. But we tend to knock Lucas or anyone else while at the same time, rationalize and defend other director's choices. Alot of us here, if honest, sometimes see things the way we want to or even need to. It seems when someone defends Lucas, they're immediately labeled a zealous fan-boy. It's become an all or none mentality that is quite literally very childish.

All of the A list director's are imperfect and at times can make us scratch our heads and wonder "what happened there?"

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

I wonder, would people be telling these interviewees to "get over it" or "move on" if the documentary was a "love letter" to Lucas? Also none of them sounded particularly bitter, except maybe the guys singing about their childhood being raped which always makes me laugh since it sounds so stupid. For the most part, they just sound like people who are commenting on the dark side of Lucas's legacy.

I do have to admit that I actually agree with some of the observations made. especially the one where the woman says, "if he wants to fix something then go back and redo Howard the Duck". I think this film could be a lot more than just people bashing Lucas over the decisions he has made regarding the Star Wars Universe.

I think that there are several people in the film that are genuinely concerned that Lucas may have squandered his potential as a writer/director because of the pressure to perpetuate the Star Wars mythology.

Of course not. This very thread is proof that there's no "moving on" or "getting over it" (positive or negative) where Lucas/Star Wars is involved. The only other option is indifference.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

I have no real interest in watching a gushing fanboy documentary about Lucas either so certain people here need to keep their generalizations in check....even though we know they can't.

Re: *** Official STAR WARS Saga (episodes I to VI) Discussion Thread: Part 4

Well if you're positive about something, there's no need to "get over it" or "move on". I don't think it's irrational to believe it's more psychologically healthy to devote time and energy on something you love rather than something you hate.

The film business is replete with people who never lived up to their early potential and franchises that were lucky to make it to even a strong second entry before dipping in quality so I don't see the reason why people need to dwell on Lucas and his "failings" other than a schadenfruede/sour grapes mentality.

Lucas is one of the very few people who has fans, but also has fans of complaining about him and most of these people will tell you he hasn't been involved in anything decent since 1981 so, yes, maybe it's time for these people to move on rather than devote their time to slamming this evil billionaire boogeyman they've all propped up in their minds.
