Battlestar Galactica: Season 2 - SciFi US broadcast thread - Page 12

Just got back from an extended holiday and got to watch the last 4 episodes back to back. All I can say is Wow. I'm in awe of this series and think it's just getting better. EJO/Adama range and the depth he brings to this character is just amazing. Tigh is an amazingly complex deeply flawed man. I think Starbuck is just scratching the surface and Baltar just keeps getting more perplexing (in a good way).

The whole "Toaster"/racial epithet thing threw me a little when Six/Baltar were listening to Callie rant. Then the turnaround in Chief/Adama dealing with the "Can you love a machine" dealing with Boomer v1's death and if not then what are these new Spylons (I love that term whoever came up with that for the Human Cylons) is just fascinating to watch unfold.

The only thing I guess I can add that really hasn't already been mentioned is the Boomer1's admission that there are 8 Cylons in the fleet -- why does anyone thinks she's at all aware of how many are around at any level and wasn't just giving Baltar any answer that sounds plausible so Baltar would save Chief. It seems to be routine military strategy in interrogations to give any answer to a question that needs answering.

Another week and still the best show on TV.

Next week looks even more interesting.

Yes, they are strecthcing things a bit with these sex swaps. So this Caine is going to be female, probably younger than Adama, and yet an Admiral.

I could care less what sex the charectors are. The show is damn good and every single actor they have got to play on this show is top notch. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I can not wait for Michelle Forbes as Caine, as anytime I see Lloyd Bridges i think of Hot Shots.

Me neither, though I would rather have had that come up as a surprise (it wasn't spoiled on this board for me, but somewhere else). Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Had I only known her work from Next Gen, I would have been puzzled by her casting, but anyone who's seen her in the later years of Homicide: Life on the Street would know what a superb actor she is.

All I can say is these episodes are over much too quickly!

Why is it you guys are discussing the details of unaired future episodes without spoiler boxes?

Thanks Mods. Maybe some others can be protected.

Not my screw-up this time, though

Sorry about not using the tags. Didnt think of it as a not known spoiler as it was over every major scifi news sites main page for the last month

But it's still a spoiler, Joey Check your PM!
I'm sure everyone has good intentions, but it just may not be clear to some folks. Some folks think "spoiler" means something you don't already know. Thus, when it is widely reported other places, it's difficult to know if others already know it or not.

The much simpler explanation for a spoiler is this: If it hasn't already occurred in an aired episode, it is a spoiler. I think everyone should be clear by that definition. Discussing things that occur in previews is also a spoiler.

But it's Esign Ro. Wonder if Ron Moore requested her after working with her on TNG?

Forbes is always good. I often wonder what DS9 would have been like if she had accepted the role. As for her other things, she was good on Homicide and even in her small role on 24.

Ditto. Sorry.

Thanks mods for adding the tags.
Yeah, ditto here as well, though I was just commenting on the casting which was posted here. I hate spoilers myself, so much so that I have to dive for the remote when the Executive Producers credit comes up, lest I catch a glimpse of the preview (last week I saw the clip of Roslin saying "Throw her out the airlock." Eurgh).

Thanks guys for the renewed spoiler efforts! Didn't want to get in anybody's grille so thanks for the grace in handling it. I didn't want to give up reading this thread. Great insight and commentary on a great show.

Anybody miss Baltar? He was on screen for about 30 seconds this week. His character had gone so far into the bizarro world with the Six and their baby on Kobol story that I just got bored with it. Glad he's back aboard the ship, so maybe he'll get into an interesting storyline. I didn't miss him at all last week. Adama doesn't trust him, but if he revoke martial law, Baltar will be president. That could get interesting.

I think the point of the new CAG was when Adama said he was a good and loyal man and that they could do with those qualities. Tigh obviously thought a few people were better options but Adama liked this guy for reasons other than his ability to do the job. It was a good side story as it shows that Adama over reacted to his sons choice and made a bad military decision. It also showed that when Adama is around he's a pretty good XO when he doesn't listen to his wife.

I felt it was a little forced as to how bad this guy actually was. It's hard for me to believe that the only person other than Apollo would be such a screwup. It's possible to say Apollo is good at his job without saying everyone else is a screwup. It just didn't ring true to me that the next best person could be THAT bad.

I took it that he wasn't merely incompetent, he was just too "green," as Tigh put it. They don't have many choices, with their top pilots either having abandoned the fleet (Starbuck and Apollo) or being dead (since last season, or killed by the Centurions aboard Galactica in the second episode), and so their pool of experienced pilots is pretty sparse. It's not that Apollo is a great mind at running firing practice or refuelling efforts, it's that the new CAG just doesn't have the experience needed to run those things. If Apollo and Boomer stay on the outs with the military establishment, Helo might become the new CAG when he gets back.
I really hope they find some new pilots. It seems like with the exception of Apollo and Starbuck. Their are no veteran pilots. I mean all they show is the rookie pilots.

Good episode on Friday night.

I really, really doubt that Adama will just completely capitulate to the President's way of thinking next week. Instead, it would make more sense for Adama to say: "Okay, let's see if you're right. If you're not, then we do things my way."
I have found this season, so far, to be much better then the last. Considering how much I liked the first season, that is saying something. All the episodes shown seem to be leading to something. None can really be called "stand alone". By the looks of it, the Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
meeting of all the main characters on Kobol next week
will really push the story along.

I like how a lot of secondary characters are getting their share of the spotlight. I loved the scene between Adama and Dee. Its good to see the CO getting some input from the "deckplate". I am curious to see what would happen if either the Chief or Caley encounter the new Boomer. Could be interesting.

One thing I've noticed is that Six seems to be the most ruthless of the human model Cylons, especially the one(s) on Caprica. She seems to have been giving orders to the Cylon doctor and ensured that he followed the plan on disposing of Starbuck when it appeared that he was actually showing some sort of compassion.

I can't wait for the Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
arrival of the Pegasus and Admiral Cain.
Should throw a monkey wrench into the fleet.
I'd like to see almost a complete episode devoted to Baltar getting to examine a Cylon. What makes him tick, do they take orders and who from?, etc.
I thought Friday's show was the best of the lot this year. I've been critical of the show for being so relentlessly grim, but Friday's show was so gripping that it overcame that.

I know I am and everyone I know who watches the show is. Tired of the same old scene where Six is leaning in and talking in Baltar's ear.
Figure out something else for him to do or get rid of him.

I'm confident Ron Moore knows exactly what he's going to do with Gaius. It might require a little patience on our part but they'll get to it when the time comes.

This may be outragous but I'm guessing Boomer will become the new spiritual advisor to the President now that the previous one just died. Boomer seems to know alot about that religious mumbo jumbo and it might just keep her alive much longer.
Re-watching season one, and the scenes where Gauis is just Gauis are brilliant. The stuff with Six can get a little tiresome, especially with the same darn music cue when she appears! Thankfully they toned that cue down for season two.

It was starting to drive me bonkers and I cringed with every Balter & Six scene until the episode where Six was "real" and trying to frame him. After that I realized their story was a little more complex and I'm waiting to see where it goes. I loved Baltar gaining the VP. He's acted as such a bumbling idiot that his moments of brilliance are searing. Nowadays Baltar makes me laugh with his one-short-of-a-Six-pack behaviour.

Still, Balter & Six + music cue is getting old, so I hope the relationship changes soon.

One guess is Baltar for new spiritual advisor. He might not know much about the scriptures but thanks to Six's influence he's a *believer* and I think Six would support such a move for him. He has to gain a role like that in order to protect his child.

Balter will be heir to the presidency, and also heir to Rosalin's religious leadership.

Baltar also has to find and destroy the other Cylons in the fleet. Any one of them could give away his treachery.

In response to the spoiler being discussed, in particular John Co's comment, Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
it isn't entirely surprising that there would be an admiral younger than Adama. Unlike the original, where Adama was portrayed as a top-notch leader, remember in the "new" BSG, Adama was in command of an obsolete, soon-to-be decommissioned relic. Not exactly the kind of command a rising superstar in the ranks would hold. Also, it would explain why he was able to keep Tigh as his XO, despite Tigh's obvious flaws -- in the modern context, I guess it would have been the equivalent of the Constellation or even the Coral Sea, rather than a spanking new improved Nimitz-class carrier, so the high command wouldn't have a huge issue with someone like Tigh getting the XO slot simply on the CO's say-so.

Baltar is a scientist. Science and religion just don't mix. Besides, Baltar is still on Galactica.

But then again, like I said, my guess is just as outragous.

Boy, that plot thread was introduced and dropped pretty quickly, wasn't it? I hope it gets picked up again in the near future.
