Battlestar Galactica: Season 2 - SciFi US broadcast thread - Page 53

Forgive me, but who the hell was the guy looking for Starbuck at the end in the tent? He looked like the guy with Zarek down on Kobol (who Boomer shot). If that's the same guy he's a Cylon.

I don't care much for the "hanheld" space shots. "Top Gun" has cameras mounted on the jets and there was some spectacular photography there. Just because it's a "you are there" camera thing you don't need to have it poorly zoomed, framed, etc. When the Pegasus was engaged against those two basestars I couldn't tell what the &%$# was going on.

The guy was Leobon, the Cylon that Adama beat the living shit out of in the mini-series, Kara tortured, and then Roslin later flushed out an airlock. Considering that he was looking for Kara specifically, he's likely the same iteration as the one she tortured and later defended.

Leobon

Ah. Thanks. The squirrely one. Wonder what he wants with her...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
In an interview Katie Sackett indicated that she would find happiness, only to lose it (loose it for some of you here . Does this mean he dies of sickness or Leobon kills him?

Come to think of it, why was Kobol abandoned?

Because the Cylons know of its whereabouts and have been on the planet. Not a good place for the Colonials to hide. New Caprica, in theory, was.
Wasn't there also a belief that the planet was cursed or something?

Maybe she finds out just how much of a prick he really is and dumps him!

I actually wanted to know why it was abandoned originally(when the 13 tribes left to settle the colonies). Kobol seemed like it was still a very habitable planet.

Hopefully. Apollo and Starbuck are at their best when they're sparring with each other. The season finally made it explicit that Anders and Starbuck are married, therefore he has to go. Since Dualla isn't specifically Apollo's wife, she can live.

Also the place was, like, cursed and shit. Err... as Chris said.

Well, we don't know the colonists left Kobol as refugees, do we? For all we know, the people of Kobol didn't have FTL/jump technology when they left for the colonies, so just getting there could have taken years, during which time natural disaster or WMD warfare or alien marauders could have wiped them out without the colonials knowing about it. I'm assuming that the colonies have been around for centuries, long enough for the location of their homeland to have been forgotten.

Well us Canadians finally get the Pegasus episode plus the next episode in a double bill tonight. Its been a long wait as I bought the S2 DVD boxset from Amazon.com since the release is being held back here until the summer.

You fans from up North enjoy Galactica, while we finally got our chance to see the new Dr. Who down here last night. Still going to be a long break til October. Has the second season of Galactica been shown across the pond yet?
i've been watching alias and right on season3, they forwarded the storyline 2 years from end of season2. i was surprised to find out about this so close to BSG s2 finale. thus, BSG ain't the first show to do so. anyone know which show was the first to forward the story line so many years?
24 jumps a minimum of a year and a half between seasons, but I hardly think it was the first. SeaQuest did something similar, but its characters didn't feel the time pass. Red Dwarf has done something similar.

That's just in my memory, but I'm sure there's something earlier.
Wonder Woman jumped ahead about 30 years from season 1 to season 2.
24 is a bit diff. it takes place in 1 day.
Sopranos jumped forward 2 years. Oh wait, that was real time.

Not quite as much, though. His term had expired anyway, which is why Roslin was running for election (she served out the rest of his term), and therefore his own presidency would have expired by now too.

Are you sure about that Yee-Ming? I thought Zarek called for the election under some provision of the law that allowed an ad hoc election in times of crisis or something.
Er, that voiceover during the end credits seems to be suggesting where the show could be going. Instead of the Cylons fighting humans, it sounds like they may be planning on coddling us, rather like the sons/daughters of elderly parents....... It surprises me that only myself & maybe two others here have mentioned the possibilities contained in that ominous 10 second speech.

Actually I agree to a point.

There have been times that we have been taken in what appears to be one direction only to be shown another. The fact that we are using words like "could", "may" and "possible" means that we are uncertain.

I have had discussions on the possibilities of the last 10 second speech just not in this forum.

No. Zarek called for an immediate election and Apollo guaranteed him that they would follow the democratic process and have an election in 8 months, when Roslin's turn would be up.
Mark Turetsky has it right. The election went on as required by the Constitution (Articles of Colonization).
i didn't catch the VO. is the transcript somewhere online? it seems like a ton of people missed it. can someone post it?
I thought Zarek had raised some song and dance about how it was unforseeable that someone so far down the succession (46th, if I remember correctly) would actually assume the Presidency, and therefore her legitimacy (probably in the moral, rather than legal, sense) was questionable, and hence an ad hoc election in these extreme circumstances would be appropriate.

Argh. How are we supposed to wait until October??!?!

From a few pages back

"Humanity has surrendered.
The war is finally over.
We must now fulfill our true destiny.
So we will love them, and take care of them.
Show them the glory of peace.
And like god, our infinite mercy will be matched only by our power, and complete control. "

Where they are going IMO is to the Cylons creating a utopian society where humans have no choice. Then the question will be how many of the normal people, without military backgrounds, will be prepared to give up the comforts of life for choice or freedom.

I uploaded the final couple minutes of the Season Two finale (with the voiceover AFTER the end credits) to YouTube. Whether it will actually play correctly on their end is another question:

Alright, since we have almost 7 months before new Galactica. I thought I would change the subject a bit.

So here is the question. If Moore came to you and asked what you would add or change on the show. What would it be?

Here are my ideas...(some I have brought up before)

-Have the fleet meet up with a smaller fleet of vessels. That includes either a ship filled with military supplies(ie-weapons/vipers) that since they don't have a landing bay. Could never use. Or one of the ships has a large group of Academy cadets (both newbies and soon to be grads.). I say this is that in almost every episode we see crew dying. Not just pilots. But, techs, engineers and military soldiers. You just can't replace these guys with people from the fleet now. So this would be a way of replenishing the crews. Or how about a smaller escort ship. One or two might have been older and survived the initial attack.

-I think it was a mistake to destroy Cloud 9.

Your turn....

My only problem with that is it reeks of deus ex machina. I think Adama and Co. need to solve this crisis for themselves before getting a fresh stock of new cadets. Part of the fun of this scenerio is how completely and utterly fucked the fleet is. By giving them better crews and supplies than they had before Baltar was elected, they really would be hitting the reset button.
When it comes back, I want to see Admiral Adama getting his edge back. He shaves off his mustache, punches a few sides of beef, and ends up doing this before returning like MacArthur:
