Battlestar Galactica: Season 2 - SciFi US broadcast thread

Season two starts July 15th. From the press release:

SCI FI SIZZLES WITH ITS BIGGEST SUMMER EVER!

CHANNEL ANNOUNCES DATES FOR ORIGINAL SERIES LINEUP

'SCI FI Friday' and 'Battlestar Galactica' Return July 15
Read the rest of the press release with caution as it reveals the fate of one of the main cast members from last season's finale.

Great news for me. This and "Arrested" in one day. It's going to be a great year.

It will be interesting to see with the July 15, 2005 start of the second season of BG, will it be shown about the same time that Sky TV in the UK shows the program? I think this will happen, given that they're currently in production of the first ten episodes of the second season as I type this....

Wow. This and 4400 for the Summer!

You think they will be doing a musical episode this year?
Sure wish Sci-fi was in HD!
Since SciFi likes to break up the seasons of their original programming between summer and winter, Sky will probably air the second half of the season before it's shown here.

Has anyone heard anything about Universal HD showing BSG in HD for Season 2? I watched Season 1 on Sci Fi, but would love to watch S2 in HD on UHD. It'd be tough to wait until the season is over if that will be the case again, but it would sure be nice if the eps could air in HD a week or two after the premiere on SciFi.

(This is just about the only thing that has kept me subscribed to DirecTV's HDTV package, until football kicks off again and ESPN-HD actually shows more HD content.)

Watch out, contains spoilers!

With BSG starting this Friday, it's time to dust off this thread and get it ready.

Looking forward to it. Glad it was not a long wait between seasons. Also happy that season two will last longer then 13 episodes even if SCI FI splits it up between Summer and Winter. Looks like I'll have no life on Friday nights.

If only we could get it in HD in the US.

No life but what you choose. Looking forward to the three hour of power.

I have a question: I missed most of season 1 and I really have no idea what's going on. Will I be completely lost if I start watching season 2 tomorrow?

Planning to catch season 1 on DVD, but I don't want to miss what is sure to be an exciting season.

TIVO season 2 until you see all of Season 1.

I have all of Season 1 on the DVR.
Do not watch season 2 until you have seen season 1. Period.
Greetings

Just like you would have a hard time jumping into chapter 3 of any book ... ditto for here. They are not going to spend time bringing anyone up to speed.

Suggest you find a friend that recorded the whole previous season and then watch the mini series first.

Although for the sake of ratings, yes please watch it, late is far better than never. It will take you a few episodes to figure out the character dynamics, but the ride is still well worth it.

I listened to the pod cast last night. A word of warning for those that have not listened to it yet. There are spoilers as far as episode 7 in the cast ...

Man I'm so jazzed! This is my favorite show right now. I've already heard that several changes to the opening have happened so I will try not to be bothered by it.
I just hope they explain why the heck they use both "jumps" and "FTL" to refer to their propulsion systems...that needs to be taken care of in the first five minutes, or I'm outta there...
Greetings

Probably the same reason why we refer to high color temperatures as being "cool" and low temps as "warm."

Why would you want to start watching season 2 if you havent seen season 1. It's an ongoing story. Rent the DVD first.

Too bad you didn't ask this question a couple of weeks ago, because the SciFi Channel ran an all-day marathon of BG's Season One episodes a day or two after the 4th of July.

All I can advise at this point is that you record (either on a DVR or VCR) the new Season Two episodes and save them until after you can see both the 2003 Miniseries (which is on DVD) and then the Season One series episodes (which aren't on DVD yet, but SciFi may rerun again).

That premiere was frakkin' Awesome! Man I love this show! Great stuff in there. Wow.

What Jason said. Great episode!

I particularly liked:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Tigh slapping Boomer across the face on the side with her bullet wound. Ouch. Don't piss that guy off.

Tigh's flashbacks from when he and Adama had '70s-looking hairstyles. Nod to the original series?

The theme music was the same as in the original British airing of season one on SkyOne.

"That bitch stole my ride."

The whole scene on Kobol going back to get the second med kit. Very tense.

Out of the new Friday Sci-Fi lineup, BG is tops....
The best thing about it was, it was as good, if not better than Season 1.

No Season 2 'problems' that plague other series.

I did not care for the new intro though.

I miss the precap, but I heard it's gone for good. A shame. But man, what a great show! The Cylon raiders coming out of the Basestar was actually scary!

Question: What exactly was Tighe about to burn in the flashback when he was interrupted by the two soldiers who told him Major Adama had gotten him reinstated as a captain?
Great episode. Intense and very satisfying.

I think Tighe Was going to burn himself up wasnt he. He looked like he had reached the end.
I thought maybe that was it, but then he said later in the ep that Adama should never have reinstated him so he could have died back on Caprica with everyone else, which made me think it wasn't a suicide attempt.
It was all his medals, wings, and such on a sash.

Great episode! Too bad BG was snubbed for the emmy's.
The first episode of season two was very good. If the rest of the season can match this episode season two is going to be great.

By the way, I mentioned in the NBC HD broadcast thread that I didn't like the use of the UK opening theme as much as the old US theme but it's growing on me.

I do have a question for the UK viewers. If you happened to see the US broadcast of the first episode of season two, is the new opening sequence they used last night the same one they used in the UK last year?

Also not sad to see the precap go as it often gave away too much information about the episode.

I think he was going to burn his medals that he won during the first Cylon war. Or it could have been his uniform. I’m fairly certain it wasn't going to be a suicide attempt.
Okay, yeah, I think it was his medals. I was pretty sure he wasn't trying to snuff himself.

Last night's episode was fantastic! This is the first time that I've gotten in on a show like this from the beginning. My current favorite shows (24, the Shield, Stargate, Farscape, and others) have all been discovered by renting the DVDs. It's exciting to me to be right there with everybody else wondering what's going to happen next! I hope that it has a long run.
