Adam-12?

Thread Starter
Kent McCord has posted to his website that he expects the first season of Adam-12 to be released on August 9th. It would make sense that he would have some inside information on this. Anything official from Universal yet?

Yesterday Universal annouced that several other similar vintage shows were coming out on 8/9 so that's possible.

I almost wish they'd spaced these out a little bit. Fans of one show are likely to be fans of the others and it gets a bit tough on the old pocketbook if you want to take advantage of pre-order pricing and get them all the same week.

Didn't know Kent McCord had his own website; thanks for letting us know.

That's great news if it turns out to be true. This is one that I've been waiting for on DVD.

I agree with Steve, I wish the releases were a little more evenly distributed on the calendar.

I'll be picking this up when it comes out. I hope with the release of Dragnet 1967 and Adam-12 that Emergency! won't be far behind.
Well, they announced Emergency! years ago, so there's hope. I believe a lot of work has already been done on it.

I too would like Emergency! on dvd. Loved that show growing up.

Adam-12, August 23, according to the latest at TVShows.

This is interesting news. I remember watching as a kid. I took a look at Kent McCord's website, lots of cool images from those years on the show.

i am hoping to hear that S6 will be released in 2011. There is only two season left. I would love to complete this set next year.

Has anyone heard any news on whether season one will be re-released (on single-sided discs) from Shout! Factory?  This is one show for which I would double-dip to replace the double-sided discs I currently own.

Shout's licensing deals don't extend to season 1 for Adam-12 and Dragnet. Universal doesn't want Shout competiting with it's own products (Remaining stock of season one of Adam-12, the recent reprinting of season one of Dragnet, etc.).

Dragnet S1 was not "reprinted."   All they did was repackage the same double-sided discs in new packaging minus the wasted CD for one radio episode so that was just a guess of getting rid of more existing stock in a new way.

There was a new manufacturing run. Universal didn't open up thousands of old season 1 cases of Dragnet, discard the bonus disc, and stick the DVD's into new packaging like you're suggesting.

I just got the first three seasons of the late 60's Dragnet. The date on the back says 2010. When I opened it up I found they're two double sided discs marked 2005! And no episode guide. furious.gif

And that sounds like they repackaged discs from the S1 pressing for the new cases.

I really doubt they produced an excess of disc over half a decade ago.

It's a new pressing. You don't usually see the copyright dates updated in such a thing, be it a DVD video, audio CD, or a videogame. The packaging has a new copyright date because it's a fresh design and the copyright has been adjusted to reflect that. The menus and contents of the double sided DVD's are identical to 2005's release and covered by the 2005 copyright so the 2005 copyright date is retained.

Why would Universal go back to a double-sided format for that one title when they've had the common sense to abandon it everywhere else since 2006-07?      Finding a way to repackage Dragnet minus the CD just sounds like an easier way of getting rid of unwanted surplus IMO and not doing any new pressings.

Leo,

Thank you.  Much appreciated.  (I'm still hoping it comes out somehow on single-sided discs one day.)

I've been going through Season Two again.  While watching it with my fourteen-year old son recently (he loves the show), I asked him what he loved about it.  He said he liked the period of the show.  I told him I couldn't agree more.  It's a lot of fun seeing so many things the way they were from my childhood.  For example, I can't tell you how many times I've noticed the (now classic) cars in the background as Malloy and Reed are out on their 'beat.' :)

He also likes how he can focus on what is occurring in the show.  My wife agreed and mentioned how she likes the way the show (and others like it from the 1960s and early 1970s) doesn't over-clutter the screen, and how it moves at a more slower pace.  I also like the use of color (particularly with regard to solids) relative to what I see in many shows today.  And not having to watch hurky-jerky camera movements is always a good thing IMO.

Are you sure about this?  I sent Shout an email asking if they would issue a Dragnet Complete Series like the Leave it to Beaver Complete Series.  I never heard back, but that is my hope.

Forgive me if my question is redundant, but I recently noticed that SHOUT is re-releasing Season 1 of Adam-12 that was originally done by Universal, so I am assuming they are trying to repair the crappy double sided disks that would freeze up on everyone, but why are they going with the split season ??

When they took over A-12 and Dragnet, the product would come out in full season sets !

Brad,

I'm glad they're doing it (thanks for the info., BTW).  The only reason I can think of for the split is money.  Is the packaging close to the same used by Shout! Factory for seasons 2-5?

Don't believe everything you hear.

The set I believe the other poster is thinking of is Adam 12, Volume 1. It's a single disc release by Shout factory, made up of 10 episodes from SEASON 2.

IIRC, Shout has done this with quite a few series, giving consumers who don't want to invest in a full season of a series a low priced option.

But make no mistake... Shout hasn't rereleased season 1, and doesn't seem to have any plans to.

Obsolete Man, You are correct on that and I stand corrected, i thought it was S1V1  !

I had to go to Shout's website to confirm it was what I thought it was.

Amazon's page is vague on exactly what that disc contains.

Shout also did the same thing with Dragnet 1968, releasing a disc of 10 episodes from the season. But there's no mistaking that set for anything else, since it's clearly labeled as "Dragnet 1968".

Shane,

Thanks for the clarification.  I was momentarily ... pleased!  Then I reread this thread a few times, and thought that the decision to re-release the first season came rather suddenly.  Oh well.  I'm still hopeful it will occur one day. :)

I have S1-S5 on dvd and would have thought there would be announcement in Jan-March about S6. There is only two seasons left, so, i am hoping the remaining seasons are released in 2011.

FYI, I watched seasons 6 & 7 via Netflix this past fall and it is strange that these things would be on DVD for them but not to purchase from the public.

Did you watch those episodes on DVD or via streaming?  If it was on DVD, who issued the DVD (Shout or Universal)?

Adam-12 only has S1-S5 released on dvd. I believe Shout Factory has the rights to the show, but, has not released plans on the remaining season. It is too bad, because i would love to collect to final two season, because it is classic police drama. I believe i read somewhere that police department actually used the show as part of their training for new recruits.

I like to pick up dragnet down the road as well, but, i will wait until it is completed. I just don't want to keep having uncompleted copies on my shelves.

I went back and check Netflix and I did watch the via streaming and they are not available on disc yet !
