And yet another "Search" problem thread...

Since, Parker, you have asked to be kept informed about apparent problems with the HTF search function...here's my latest--which is pretty straight-forward:

There is a thread in After Hours titled simply: Encroaching Neighbor.

I wanted to post in it last night and went to After Hours and used the After Hours Forum search function. I typed in neighbor, selected title-only and slowest-search-function. I got several responses...but not the thread I was looking for. I then went through the same process by typing in encroaching. Again, the thread did not appear in my results.

When I found the thread on page 4 after doing a page-by-page chronological search, I found that each word was capitalized and thought, maybe, that the search mode was capital sensitive. However, similar searches on both words with the first letter capitalized also did not yield the desired thread. It's almost like that particular thread is invisible to the search engine.

Thanks for your efforts. I hate to add to the list of search mode problems and hope you are able to figure them out.

Your guess is as good as mine trying to figure out why the search engine works the way it does. I was able to find the thread by going to the Search function in the After Hours Lounge and setting it for the slowest search.

The odd thing is that even the Google search at the top of the main search page didn't come up with that thread and it usually finds threads that the main search doesn't find.

I just checked again and using the main search I put in
Encroaching Neighbor and used the slowest search option and it found the thread with no problem.

Well...okay...

So, I just went to the main After Hours index page. In the search box, I typed Encroaching...selected titles only...and slowest search. I got no results.

I then went to the main search page...and did the very same thing with the addition of searching all open forums. I still get no results.

Then, from the main search page I do it all over again, but select search entire post rather than title only and the thread shows up along with a number of others--this one included!

I don't get it.

Maybe the problem is the Search titles only function?

And...as a quick follow-up...I went back to the After Hours index page and typed encroaching into the search engine...selected search entire posts and slowest search and the thread appeared in the results.

Further proof that the Search titles only function may be the problem.

That is what I thought too but then I typed in Review and had it search only titles and it found the HTF Review threads with "Review" in the title.

Also, as I said earlier, the Google search didn't find it either and you would think it would have been able to find it too but didn't.

I really don't know what to say other than if you can't find it by the title of thread try seaching all the posts at the slowest option and see if that works.
