Just read about this over at www.thefutoncritic.com Curious if anyone has heard anything about this?

SCI FI CHANNEL PILOT 'EUREKA' TO START PRODUCTION ON VANCOUVER ISLAND

Stars Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Wittfield, Greg Germann, Joe Morton, Debrah Farentino and Jordan Hinson

VANCOUVER ISLAND, BC & NEW YORK, NY--April 26, 2005--SCI FI Channel will start production on the 2-hour pilot movie 'Eureka,' today, on British Columbia's Vancouver Island. Starring Colin Ferguson ('Armistead Maupin's More Tales of the City'), Salli Richardson-Wittfield ('Antwone Fisher'), Greg Germann ('Ally McBeal, Friends With Money'), Joe Morton ('Paycheck'), Debrah Farentino ('The Division') and Jordan Hinson ('Go Figure'), 'Eureka' will be helmed by Peter O'Fallon ('House, M.D.,' 'Wonderfalls').

For years, the government has been secretly relocating the world's geniuses (and their families) to the idyllic Pacific Northwest town of Eureka, where daily life straddles the line between unprecedented innovation and total chaos. When U.S. Marshal Jack Carter (Ferguson) wrecks his car and becomes stranded in Eureka, he quickly realizes that all is not what it seems. After the town's eccentric inhabitants unleash a brainchild with a catastrophic aftermath, Carter steps in to restore order and consequently is let in on one of our country's best-kept secrets.

Yeah, they are filming here in my neck of the woods.
Right now they have casting calls out for twins, triplets and quadruplets over the age of 60 (will take 40+ if they look older) and George W and Laura Bush look-a-likes.

I am considering signing on as an extra once this gets going.

They are calling this a Twin Peaks meets Northern Exposure meets the X-Files type of show.

I've been seeing the commercial for Eureka lately.
It acutally looks interesting and fun.
I'm definitely going to give it a watch.

The plot makes me think of Dean Koontz.

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

it was ok, i think they may have gone overboard with the quirkyness but if they tone it down i'll keep watching. Then again I'll watch almost anything with Salli Richardson in it.

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

It has potential. I do like the lead guy, who, while a little out of his element, is still quite capable. There is a lot that is played over the top (Especially Matt Frewer's character, who I didn't know was even in the show.), but there are some interesting things that can be developed here.

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

I really liked this show. It flowed well except for the whole daughter aspect which seemed kind of added in for some reason. The actors and actresses didn't seem to be clunky or unsure of each other. It really was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. After watching the previews for the next few episodes I'm actually anticipating watching this every week.

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

I liked the show and I thought the daughter was cute. I think this was a typical pilot episode where they cram to much exposition in the time they had. Once a couple episodes go by I think they will find their rhythm.

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

This is the kind of show that I think could turn into a really funny Northern Exposure meets X-Files type groove and I really like the actors picked for the show.

The dialog was snappy though at times over the top, but that's OK for a pilot. I think the overall concept is interesting, it's how they play with it that could be fun

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

I liked the show. I am curious how the show will balance the over-the-top quirkyness with the deadly seriousness of the conspiracy. This could be anywhere from a serious drama to a comedy.

I really liked:
"Henry isn't answering the phone"
BOOOOOOM
"Try him again, he'll answer this time."

When I saw Matt Frewer's name in the credits, I thought "bonus" because I usually like his characters. However this character is a disappointment and I wish he would just stick to his normal voice instead of that bad Austrailian accent.

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

I enjoyed it enough to set my DVR to record the series, for now. Hopefully, the next few episodes will be as strong as the pilot. There is a ton of potential in this one.

Fun episode tonight. Pretty predictable considering the events of last episode, but it was a lot of fun.

From the initial commercials, I wasn't sure that I would like it. I have been pleasantly suprised. It is not great but I'll watch it.

Just OK to me. I won't be following it live, but I might watch the first seaosn on DVD depending on reviews.

I got a chuckle when his house called him on his cell.

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

Except for Sarah I loved the house (though if they really could get Sarah Michelle Gellar to do the voice I wouldn't mind). I especially like the big screen TV (btw, if the TV screen is 12 feet tall, what would it be diagonally?)

She's probaly too busy doing Scooby 3 or something! Really, she needs to ditch movies and head back to TV in a sitcom or drama or something.

Maybe they should get Sarah Silverman, Sarah Chalke, Sarah Polley or Sarah Jessica Parker. It would probably take an hour to do a season's worth of dialogue.

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

I really hope they drop the "House computer as a jealous, nagging wife" plot point. That has been done enough already on The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, and a bunch of other shows and movies. If they are going to make the house a character, I would prefer it to be modeled after Andromeda or Knight Rider. Useful and occassionly comical but not really emotionally tied to the owner.

I agree with this. I knew as soon as he was on the phone and 'she' asked him if he'd home for dinner that they'd go that direction (actually, I knew as soon as 'she' started talking when he first entered the house...)

I think a better approach, if 'Sarah' has to be infatuated with someone, is someone that the marshal doesn't particularly like and have Sarah keep inviting that person over or finding excuses for the person to come to the house....

But Chuck's right, 'Sarah' needs to either be a more complex character, or simply relegate 'her' to refrigerator status.

Re: New Scifi channel pilot "Eureka"...

I'm enjoying this show. But as I watched I was able to foretell 2 major plot points. The ghost being Walter and the problem the deputy wanted to talk about, Zoe being back in Eureka. The fact I could guess them, in and of itself, doesn't make the show bad. I think this will be OK. I also think this is a show that won't stay around for many seasons, just an instinct, nothing against it.
