Notice nearly every long stall in the Woot-off has been on a bread related product. I guess Woot customers are avoiding their carbs.

They had some serious problems last night. Items would come up, then be instantly sold out with 0 items sold. Then next item, same thing, then items came back. Whoops for Woot.

InFocus 61” DLP Ultra-Thin HDTV with Random Crap

I think it was about $2,500.00
That's about the 16th time they've had these TV's up, isn't it?

What's wrong with them? Why is no one buying them?
If you look at the responses in the woot blog most people can't afford to spend $2500. My cousin's wife works for InFocus and I gathered that due to poor marketing and prohibitive pricing (IIRC the 61" display was around $6,000 MSRP) this product line failed. Woot.com has been the primary liquidator of its stock of these products. I've heard that the displays are good though.

Actually they have been up only about four times I think, but yo can confirm this if you like by searching the blog list. In addition, aparently they sold so well that InFocus sld al of their remaining stock to Woot, so they had a lot of additional units to sell. I suspect they sold several hundred of them considering the price, and the number of posts from those who bought them.

They announced this product back in October of 2004 for $10,999. They dropped the MSRP to $9,999 in December, then it came down to $8,999 in January 2005.

As for the quality of the set, besides some excellent reviews that are available online, I saw this set in person at A&B TV in Austin, and was quite impressed:
Quote:
I saw a model of this TV, 61MD10, at a local dealer and it looked fantastic! They had it "On Sale" for $6,000 marked down from $9,000.

If I had even the slightest need for this I'd pull the trigger on that woot in a heart beat. InFocus are selling these at a huge loss in order to clear their iventory. When they first built this marvelous light engine last year and developed this model with RCA, it was supposed to be their introduction into the RPTV market.

Unfortunately the design was so complex and costly to build, they had to sell them with an MSRP of ~$10,000 in order to try and turn a decent profit, but they failed to market the product well with custom installers, and it was too pricey for the general consumer market, and thus they never sold. Now InFocus is calling it quits on RPTV's for now, and this is why this model is available now at ridiculously lower prices from than earlier this.

If you are on the fence you should definetely try and find one locally to look at. I suspect it will be worth the effort.

[c]The For Real, Final, Last, Never Again 61" Sale[/c]

"Friends! Wooters! Countrypersons! We come both to praise the InFocus SP61MD10 61 ” DLP HDTV and to bury it. After a long, Fantasticks -like run on Woot, Big Slim’s taking a final bow before we drop the velveteen curtain on it forever. We’ve had joy, we’ve had fun, we’ve had crystal-clear, 720p, 61” HD-native images. Whatever will we do with ourselves, now that we won’t be telling people about the SP61MD10 ’s vibrant color and crisp picture quality?

Like fools, we thought there would always be a little more time to get to know the patent-pending InFocus engine, enabling astonishingly excellent images without image retention, brightness loss, pixel loss, image warping, or any of the other little defects that plague lesser thin-screen technologies. With its Texas Instruments native 16:9 high-definition HD2 + DLP chip with DarkChip 2 technology, the SP61MD10 always seemed so full of life. Sure, we knew on some level that nothing lasts forever. But how could such a robust, healthy TV ever leave us? It just didn’t seem like a real possibility.

But it was. It was every bit as real as the SP61MD10 ’s two integrated high-definition tuners (cable and off-air), or its HD connectivity through HDMI ™ and dual IEEE 1393 with two-way DTV -Link. And now that moment we’ve feared has arrived. Don’t tarry. Don’t delay. Don’t let this day slip through your fingers like so many others before. Seize the SP61MD10 while you still can, or be tormented by regret for the rest of your life, by phantom memories of those moments you could have shared with the SP61MD10 but didn’t.

In lieu of flowers, we’re marking the SP61MD10 ’s passing by including a special Memorial Bag O’ Crap with every purchase. Of course, contrary to what we scream at you during every other Crap sale, this time do not buy a quantity of three unless you want three TVs . You can count on us to fill your BOC with ample crappiness – not because we’re such nice guys, but because the SP61MD10 would have wanted it that way."

Check out woot's April Fool's Day prank:

http://www.woot.com/

At least, I assume it's a prank, and not the debut of a new "feature".

The item isn't a joke: The joke is the way the 'I Want One' button follows your mouse pointer so that you have to click on it.

Exactly. That's what I was referring to when I said that I assume that it is indeed a prank, and not the implementation of a new "feature"...

As for the product itself, I've seen similar items in stores, and I even have a manual version that works on pretty much the same principal, except it just has the plunger which pulls back in the cylinder like a syringe, or a bicycle pump, which is then manually depressed to expel the pressure. No CO2 cartridges for that ultra-blast...

I'm sure this one would work wonders, but I have horrible visions of what could happen if just the tiniest thing goes wrong... Ick.
