Dean: You should write a book.....I understood everything you said perfectly....thanks!

Pat: NERD!!!! LOL.....just kidding.....thank you for the time you spent protecting our great country
post #332 of 1614
Heah! I resemble that remark.

Yeah we had to learn every aspect of the engineering plant. From neutrons and electrons, volts, and watts to heat transfer and fluid flow. Oh how there were days in nuc school it was hard to stay awake.

But thanks for the kudos. I enjoyed my time in and met my wife because of the Navy.

And Dean that was a very good explanation.

Pat: Nothing like having Uncle Sam as your matchmaker

M&P: Did you guys see Dean talking to someone about the MC1s over on the asylum called 'Librec' or whatever? The guy signed his name 'Alan'.....I was over here dying with laughter! Dean must feel like he's in some warped alternate dimension sometimes with all of us! I say we recruit that guy pronto!
Z, Actually, I have written two text books (Biology related), but I don't think you folks would want to read them for fear that you might slip into a coma.

I saw that "Librec" was also an Alan. I still think you guys are aliens sent to invade.
Dean: I definitely wouldn't want to read it straight through cover to cover.....but I love biology Being in the medical field, that's sort of a good thing!

Your theory is actually pretty funny to me, cause I used to (or maybe I still do? muah ha ha) have a similar theory about Chinese restaurants!

I love biology

You're most definitely not normal, which reinforces my alien hypothesis.

Thanks for all the input fellows. I just got done with a 2 hour session of listening to my system. As long as I don't 'crank it', it's fine!!

UPS just delivered my fake ficus trees!! It is all starting to come together!! Next will be the 20 amp circuit and new ceiling. (I got a PS Audio Power Port Receptacle for the dedicated 20 amp line) And I will finally be able to get everything positioned in a nice audio rack!!
P, How about stepping it up to a 30 Amp circuit just to be safe? It's no more work for your installer than a 20 Amp - just heavier gauge wire and a 30 Amp breaker instead of a 20.

Do you have a link for the Power Port? I'm interested in some type of power conditioning for my system, but I'm too lazy to Google.
Heh! Yet another thing we have in common. A love of Biology. I am in the medical field too so.....damn this is really really getting strange. Z we even share the same profession. (26 years for me).

Next thing we will all find out is that we were all given up for adoption by the same parents, were never told as such, and we are all long lost brothers. (It could happen! - Judy Tanuta).

I have always recommended that anyone running a dedicated power amp, whether it be tube or solid state, that they run it on a dedicated curcuit. 20 amp rating is the best to use. Motors draw the most from a circuit but power amps (with thier peaks they draw on) are next in line.

You're not fooling me a bit; none of you have parents. You were all created in giant pods. I demand to know what you did with Donald Sutherland!

You don't hear that every day, P! lol Just out of curiosity, though, where did ya get em from? I could use a good ficus or two myself

LOL!! This is far and away my favorite thread of all time.....

BTW, Mike Knapp over at Home Theater Talk (http://www.hometheatertalk.com) is a huge tube fan for 2 channel music. Give him a shout over there and he can hook you up with some great tube amps.

6, I tried registering at HTT earlier today, but my registration wasn't approved for some reason. :sniff:

Pat tell me your not nuke.

What boats were you on. I was a Nav ET on the 727,734,738.

you are a molecule of sea water, enter the boat, generate electicity, turn the radar mast then light your bunk light. you are another molecule of water become potable water, drink it, go down the drain and become seawater again.

sometimes I miss those days. then again I enjoy not waking up to Fire in the Engine room, fire in PLO bay.
Look at that! Even the honorary Alans are finding out they have stuff in common!! LOL
post #348 of 1614
Z subs is a very unique way of life. I have to be careful not to let the submariner out. I am sure Pat can relate to that.

Scott: I spent about twenty minutes out of my 32 years of life on a sub. It was basically a tour I went on when I visited Pearl Harbour, HI. Any longer than twenty minutes and I think I would have gone bonkers. You guys definitely have my respect!

Al, just so you know, going from a 15-amp line to a 20-amp line, is not like opening a valve on a water line. You're not going to get more electrons flowing through your wires. By your question, it seemed like you were getting an impression like this.

This was written from a friend in another thread?? Now I am confused!!
P:

I don't exactly agree with that. Wattage(P)=Voltage(E) x Current (I). So if you have a 110 volt system with a 20 amp curcuit then you have 2200 watts available to you. If you have an amp that requires an average of say 500 watts then you have the potential of 1700 watts left over. That is used for the peaks that an amp will draw over the course of the signal that it has to handle. Bass (or low frequencies) draw the most current.

So if you have a 30 amp line vs a 20 amp line in effect you may not have opened the valve more you just have a much large pipe to send the electronics through.

Z:

Yes. I must admit I am a Focker. A cardiovascular focker to be more precise with 26 years in.

Dean:

I think he has been having some trouble with his board. I would just email Mike and tell him that you have tried to sign up on his board with no luck and that I told you to ask him about tube amps. He is a good guy and knows his tube amps.
6: That is hilarious.....I can't believe you're a Focker!!! Are you a cardiovascular focker as in CCU? I've been a med/surg and psychiatric focker, and am currently considering a return to acute care. Sooner or later I'm destined for an ICU of some variety. Did you not think the funniest scene in 'Meet the Parents' was when Stiller was at the breakfast table explaining to the docs his rationale for becoming an RN? It was sort of like the scene in 'Swingers' where Favreau tries to leave the girl a phone message and ends up leaving five of them......In large part, it's a painful scene, but you can't help but also see the humor in it lol. Anyhooooo......
This is too bizarre. My fiancee and I were just discussing the possibility of me going back to school for psych Fockering to get me out of the house and give me something to do. Obviously, you aliens have been beaming me with thought rays.
What I can't understand is that in my old house, I was running 5 maggies off of the Cinenova and playing it much, much louder without a problem. And that was on a 15 amp cicuit. In my new house, I am using it in a 2 channel system and using 4 out of the 5 channels for just 2 speakers!! It has got to be something to do with my house wiring!!
Scott, you come is as seawater go to the evaporator then into the Reserve feed tanks then into the condenser then into the steam generator then out of the S/G as steam turn the turbine generate electricity on to the vital bus then to the breaker panel then to your bunk light. Aah the short version.

I was on the 705 God's flagship. I then went to be an instructor at nuc prototype in NY.

I also miss being under way and chasing rushkies around the deep blue sea. "ALL AHEAD FLANK CAVITATE""EMERGENCY DEEP"

I did 9 years how about you?

P,6 and Dean, You cannot legally wire up 30 amp circuit to a regular type plugged outlet. The highest you can use per Branch circiut is 20 amps.

You are correct that more voltage is like having more water pressure in your pipes at home making it easier to fill your need for water or amps.

P X I = E is basically correct except that it is only completely accurate with DC not AC with AC you need to add in the PF or power factor.

P you may have had better power at your old house ie higher base voltage 120 vs 110. and cleaner power also.

I not sure I explained every thing well enough if you need me to I can go into more detail. :b

Hi Guys,

While I' m not in the medical field(has visions of a field hospital),I am in the dental field.Guess that makes me an alien cousin

And you navy guys, jeez.Back when I was in the nav(67 to 70),we still used square riggers and were served rum everyday:b
post #358 of 1614
Thanks Patrick,

Another thing that might be happening is my new preamp (Marsh P2000t hybrid tube)!! I know for a fact that I could crank my maggies louder when I had my Outlaw 950. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. Would a bad tube or tubes cause this??

I am going to try and find one of my friends locally that has an old receiver laying around to use as a preamp to do a little process of elimination!!

Bottom line...the Marsh amp and preamp sound much, much better than the Cinenova/Outlaw combo....hands down!!

P Tubes are something I do not know alot about. But it sounds like a possibility.

Thanks Patrick. I wasn't aware of that. I put in a 30 Amp circuit for my air compressor and welder in my garage, but that was 220V. Can a 30 Amp, 120V circuit be installed legally if some sort of upgraded outlet is used?
