It's good to hear from you and to read that Magnepan treated you well. I may have to do the same myself in a few months. How much did the whole project cost you including the shipping?

I'm currently waiting on parts to build another amp, so that I can bi-amp my front 3.6s to go with an active crossover (Marchand).
Other than that, I've just been working and watching my retirement fund circle the drain.

We were in Arizona last week on vacation, We went to the Crand Canyon and Sedona.

As far as the cost of repair, it breaks down as follows:
$200 per speaker to completely strip and rewire the mid-range panels
$100 per speaker to install new tweeters
$85 each way to ship speakers via Old Dominion Trucking which is Magnepan's carrier of choice. (I live about 10 miles from the Cincinnati terminal and delivered them to and picked them up from there)
So that comes to a grand total of $770.

Thought I'd check out the new look of the site...I dig it!

Just picked up another toy, so thought I'd mention it to you guys, too....I have been looking at multi-channel analog preamps for a while now, cause I was getting frustrated with trying to find a new pre/pro or even receiver that would fit my needs. Well, I finally picked up the one I'd been eying for a while, a McCormack MAP-1. I had been using the analog inputs on my outlaw pre/pro and setting speaker trim on the BD player. Now Im using the player for bass mgt and processing, and using the McCormack for the trim levels. I used the same calibration method as I had before, but all of a sudden my center channel is really shining. Dialogue seems much more crisp than it did before and the whole front stage blends much better. I have a Denon 2900 universal player that needs a small laser adjustment, and Im thinking about getting that fixed (they quuoted me about $129 for the job) so I can get SACD/DVD-A back in here, and also have a back-up DVD player in the mix. Right now I have my iPod connected to one of the stereo inputs and it's definitley not bad. Not as good as my 2-channel signal path, but not bad!

Anyway, I love gear that performs simple functions but does so very well, and that's what this piece does. It's built like a damn tank, just like my Marchand crossover and the Butler amps. These crazy 3.6s throw such a damn huge soundstage that I haven't even been in a hurry to get surrounds up in here, lol. With movies, the whole front stage wraps around me damn near 180 degrees....love these speakers :)

I had my 3.6's rewired at Magnepan (mid panel). I also had new tweeters installed. They sound better than ever. I am on the list to have them "Gunned" by PG over at the MUG. It will probably be towards the end of the year or next year.

 I reconditioned my CC1 and 1.6's last year after they started to buzz. There is a lot of information on the web to walk you through the process if you want to save some $$$. It is really easy and just takes a little patience.

I just bought a 73" Mits WD 73837 TV for my family room HT. This should be fun!! Plus I have a brand new Pioneer Elite BD player still in the box to go with it. I'll be connecting via HDMI cables to my Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH receiver.

One of the best purchases I've made was that SVS sub some years back. It will move your pants leg!!

Oh, and I am in line to have my 3.6 maggies "gunned", if you know what that means!!

That is one cool looking setup. That 73 inch Mits is a killer for the money.

Hey guys! Just checking in....have finally been having some visitors over to experience the rig, and the feedback has been glowing! Don't really have my eyes and any upgrades right now, as I'm just enjoying the fruits of my labor.

Hey people, got around $3500. to spend on a home theater system w/avr...looking at some mts-01, any suggestions? 24ft.x19ft room in basement. 8ft suspended ceilings, also getting a 55" plus flat screen tv. Got ps3, wii, dvr directv. HELP, don't want to get something expensive with low quality....

 Resurrecting this thread for an update and to see if any Allans/Allens/Alans are still around. You heard it here first, I am selling all of my Maggies -- 3.6Rs, 1.6QRs, and CC3 -- and downsizing. I will be heartbroken to see them go, but I don't have a choice. A great deal has transpired over the past six months. I managed to shatter my left knee leaving me permanently disabled and with enough titanium in my leg to build a child's bicycle. 
On the upside, I lost about one hundred and sixty pounds of useless fat by divorcing my wife.  
So, I'll be selling my house and buying a smaller, more manageable house for myself. As for replacement speakers, I'm going with custom Salk speakers and matching subs, made of bamboo no less.

Sorry to here about your knee and the the choice to sell yor maggies. I hope all works out for you, you are a class act!! I'm sure you will be back to visit from time to time, after all. you are an honorary Alan!!

I am sorry to hear about your knee and I have gone through that type of weight loss myself a couple of times. My problem is I keep putting it back on. :)

I am also sad to hear that you are selling your maggies.

You will have to let those of us that don't have our own maggies and those that do what you think of the new speakers in comparison.

 Thanks guys! I just got word this morning from Jim Salk that my speakers and subs should be shipping tomorrow. I am very much looking forward to getting them set up and giving them a listen. The speakers and subs were all made to match, the cabinets are bamboo and dyed sort of a Rosewood red color. I also went all out and got the ribbon tweeter upgrade. As soon as they all arrive, I'll be putting all of my Maggies and Mye stands up for sale. Although I'm sorry to have to sell the Maggies, I'm looking forward to moving to a smaller and more manageable place. And I'm really enjoying bachelorhood.
