1933 King Kong in November - Page 10

"Mighty Joe Young" will surely contain the tinted fire sequence since the last LD had it. Not sure if that tint was added by the guys who produced the last issued LD or was actually in the print that they used for the LD?

What I want is "The Son of Kong" in the sepia tone (as in the beginning of "The Wizard of Oz") which Robert Harris alluded to so many months ago!

It was originally shown with the tint and was finally restored during that portion of the video era.

Okay, let's see if I got it right...

1. There IS going to be the 4-disc set, which will give me KONG, SON and JOE - plus any and all of the extra DVD features...

2. And if I want to get the tin, I can also get the paper supplements, except the tin won't have the three films?!?

Man, this is confusing. If I understand it correctly, I'd probably go with #1.

Per the Digital Bits,

You can buy the 2 Disc SE of King Kong

You can buy the 2 Disc SE of King Kong with the collectable tin and bonus items, and some kind of voucher for a opportunity to buy a reproduction of the original theatrical poster.

You can buy the 2 Disc SE of King Kong
in a 4 disc set that contains Son of Kong and Might Joe Young,
but does NOT include the tin or the supplemental items.

Son of Kong and Might Joe Young will both be available separately, so the collector who does not want to double-dip, but wants all the goodies will need to buy the collectable tin version, plus Son of Kong and Might Joe Young separately.

No double dipping required.

Again, per a thedigitalbits.com posting published just a little while ago.

I've actually been thinking I would like to have the tin and all its supplements -- however, it's "no sale" (as they say ) since it doesn't also contain SON OF KONG and MIGHTY JOE YOUNG. Now, that would have been the ultimate package for collectors.
WB has been really clever about since to buy both Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young would come out to 40 dollars which is the same price as the four pack.

Just wanted to let you all know, we just posted official cover art for all three versions of King Kong at The Bits, fresh in from Warner:

I'll be getting the four disc set and I'm personally happy they aren't including the tin. Anchor Bay use to release many of their big titles in a collector's tin with a poster but I'm not interested in that extra stuff.

I know it might be more to buy the 2-disc Tin and SON/MIGHTY but you've got to expect that since you are getting a tin case plus other goodies.

I wonder if the HD market will really make people buy their favorite DVDs a new time...

How much of an improvement would a HD transfer of a 4:3 film, have over a DVD transfer of a 4:3 film?
Thank you.

Why WB's marketing will cost them & 'us' $.

SE Kong = Very Good Sales
CE Kong = VG Sales (for a tin release)
BS Kong = Good Sales
Single Disc Son = OK Sales
Single Disc Mighty = Good Sales

Where as;
SE Kong = VG Sales
CE w/4 disc set = Excellent Sales (for a tin release)

The WB could have saved themselves & 'us' whole lot of expense, by having just two Kong's instead of 5!

The production of the single disc's of Son & Mighty, will be either to much or to little. Either way a loss.

Ed, I'm not sure what you were meaning exactly, but the answer would be . . . A LOT!
I'll be buying the Tin for the program. Ten bucks more for a replica of the $25,000 program is OK by me.

Certainly! (to quote Curly)
Just how much & will that make Full Frame DVD's a 'must' for replacing with HD disc's?
Thanks Mike.

Anyone wish to guess on sound quality?
I love the music as well as the film.

Not at all. You have four simple and logical options:

1. King Kong 2-disc in a collectable tin with paper supplements.

2. King King 2-disc, plain.

3. King Kong 2-disc, in a boxset with SoK and MJY.

4. All of the above separately.

I'm going with the tin, myself. I want to have the best version of the original.

The missing choice that I and others were hoping for is:

5. King Kong 2-disc, with SoK and MJY, in a collectable tin with paper supplements.

Buying #1 along with SoK and MJY separately just doesn't do it for me. (Although I'll probably cave and go that way anyway, since WB isn't offering #5.)

An extra 500 lines of definition?

I agree with those who are disappointed and frustrated with Warners' approach to this set.

Buying Son and Mighty separately will cost as much as the collectors pack. The collectors pack @ $40 + 2 single titles @ $40 = $80 MSRP. Even discounted, that's still a chunk of change.

Surely a box containing all 3 films + paper goodies would cost far less (and should in my opinion).

I'll sing the praises of Warners all day long for the many things they do right, but when they make an error, as I believe they have here, it should be pointed out and Warners would be wise to take the constructive criticisms offered by their consumers to heart and rethink their approach.

Given Warner's overall respect for their consumer (at least the classic film buyers) I have no doubt they'll give this feedback due consideration.

You have several options...

You can always just go to Digitalbits' website - the cover art is on the very first page.

In addition, the cover art for all three King Kong releases have already been posted in this thread over the last four days so finding those should be easy by simply browesing the last few pages of this thread.

You can also type in "cover" in the Search this Thread: box located in the upper right hand corner.

But just in case those methods fail you, I know post #219 & #231 (page 8 if you are displaying 30ppp) and below have pics of all the KK cover art. CLICK HERE to jump to that page.

My God, those are gorgeous. I'll probably go with the box set, just to get all three films at the cheapest price. Nothing against the tin, mind you.
If the set containing all three films included the tinned version of "Kong" rather than the regularly boxed one, people would be coming out of the woodwork complaining about having to get the tin.

You people need to stop bitching and open your wallets.

Nils, thank you for those poster images!

Here's a supposed surviving frame from the spider sequence I had on my HD:

Will definitely go for the 3 movie box set. If you're into collecting tins and knick knacks the collecter's edition is fine. Personally I'm much more concerned with getting some great copies of these films. Am glad Warner is including all three for a decent price.

How about buying the tin collectors set and waiting 3,4 months (I mean we waited this long already) and get SOK and MJY at discount prices. With the limited shelf space stores have, they must continually move product and demand for SOK and MJY will most likely fade quickly.
Woh. The 4-disc set is... awesome !!!
Okay, let's look at this here using MSRP prices.

2-Disc KK is $27
2-Disc KK Tin is $40
4-Disc KK Collection (No Tin) is $40

So, theoretically, a 4-Disc KK Collection w/ Tin would be $53.

For someone like me who sees little value in "paper goodies" and a tin, and has never seen the two extra movies, that extra $15 - double the cost of the regular 2-Disc SE - would be enough for me to not want it.

As it is, I'll likely pick up the 4-Disc KK Collection (No Tin) since it is not as extreme in the price difference.

WB's marketing here is certainly working for me.

(Though a 4th option, 4-Disc KK Collection w/ Tin, would be nice for everyone else, it would be at least $53, not $40).
I dont know what to do. I want the tin so much, I also want the 4 disc set. I think I may have to go with the tin and buy SOK and MJY seperate.
I have to say that the artwork is beautiful.
Yep the 4-disc box and cover art looks fantastic, will look great on the shelf next to my other Warners sets.
