New Tool Bar

Parker:

Was admiring the new tool bar yesterday (on the forum's main pages)...thinking its design was very cool.

However, after seeing today that you've added a slew of advertisers...its too wide for the page on either of my two displays (home & work) and now requires sideways scrolling to navigate the pages.

I'm using machines with both XP and ME and both are using 17' monitors with resolutions of 1024 by 768.

Yeah, nav bar is neat but it messs up the screen.

But with Firefox and adblock, you can remove it. I just did and everything is back to normal.

Yay to Firefox and Adblock!

The side scrolling thing is an issue, there is no longer any word wrapping on the forums (not inside thread), making it difficult to navigate with anything other than a maximized window.

Parker and Ron:

The side scrolling is a major negative.

Please rethink this.

Thanks

Yes, please do. I like the new bar but the side scroll has got to go.

Ditto what everyone else has said. I can learn to live with the sideways scrolling if it's an absolute must, but I would much rather not if there's any other way the same goals could be accomplished (making the direct-ad-links in the nav bar convenient and visible).

Any chance that all the new ad categories could be condensed into one heading (maybe HTF Mall), and then sub-menued from there? That would shrink the bar back to a manageable width.

I love the actual setup, with the slider and the sub-menus. It's just the sideways scrolling that throws me.

As always, though, it's great to see that you guys are constantly updating and re-tooling things here. We may have a few "under construction" woes from time to time, but the overall structure definitely makes up for it all.

Thanks Parker, and thanks to everyone that mentioned this. I thought it was just something (else) that I was doing wrong.

Thanks. I am sure you will find a way to do what you want without compromising the word wrap thing.

Parker, one reasonably big difference with the snazzy new control panel buttons is that I now have to open up one of the edit options and than click again to get to the 'My vB Home' page which I use quite often, it used to be just one click away before, or is it there and I'm missing it?

Steve, you are outside your realm of the testy. Get back now before we are all sucked into a black hole and the universe collapses.

Oh yeah, thanks Parker

Hi, the new tool bar seems to violate browsing preferences in Firefox and Safari. Instead of opening in a new tab with a command-click or fillintheblank-click it just opens in the main window.

Thanks, Parker!

Thanks, Parker!

I still hope you can find a layout that puts the various vendors and vendor areas directly on the nav bar, though... I really like the direct, convenienct access, and it makes "browsing" the vendors even easier.

I still do the main portal page and HTF Mall route, though...and I hope others will realize the importance also!

Thanks a lot Parker. Your response time on this was just great.

Thanks for the feedback on the new bar. I will see what I can do about adding our vendors.

Steve:

Would you rather the Forum Home just jump to the page instead of having to scroll down?

Since Parker loaded that new tool bar and then deleted it I've had nothing but problems with Firefox. Like Joseph metioned above.

For instance, Firefox will not load certian icons on this forum like the little light bulbs. Also, it will not bring up my login page for gmail.

But, if I close Firefox and open IE everything works perfectly. This just started yesterday with the new tool bar.

I've reinstalled Firefox but that has not helped. Also, have deleted cookies, cashe and such with no luck.

Anyone?

Ron:

That is really weird as I have Opera, Firefox and IE on my PC and have no error messages or any problems with any of the graphics working on any of the pages.

I am not that familiar with the layout of the controls in Firefox but it sounds like some kind of Adblock or similar.

I'm sure it's a coincidence, nothing
more but frustrating none the less.
Can't figure out what the problem is.

I just got off the phone with my ISP
and he said he is having trouble at
his end so the problem may lie there.

Can we get a jump from the Splash Page to the User Control Panel again? I liked that. Under the past two bars, the USER CONTROL PANEL part of the bar is not clickable, only its dropdown menu -- which does not, by the way, incorporate "Favourite Threads".
Thank you.

Ron: My Firefox is working just fine on the forum...even since the institution of the new navigation bar.
