MythBusters and HTF... - Page 4

She was a bit too 'pale' for the bikini.
That's why she needs to get out more in the bikini

The Mythbusters Shark Week episode did seem a bit long and padded, but the periodic presence of the lythe Kari in a bikini made it easy to endure. And after two hours, watching a high pressure scuba tank blown up with C4 was immensely satisfying.

That said, the regular episode of the show featuring the swingset and water escapes was ONE OF THE BEST. Good science, accurate recreations and hilarious slo mos of rocket-Buster and the swing set.

Actually that was "Simulation Suzie."

Man, that WAS dragged out. Ugh. Seeing Kari in swimwear was nice, but I think she looked sexier in the wetsuit.

I thought last night's episode was one of the best all year. For one thing, it seemed like the kind of myth they used to do and for another, it was almost all Jamie and Adam, doing what they do best. Nothing against the build team but they show was usually better when it was just the two of them.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Was anyone else surprised they got the dummy to fly as far as it did? And since it was just a dummy, did they really set any kind of record? I would think to claim the record, they would have to launch a live person and recover them in the same condition they found him. Oh, Tory...
That build was pretty cool, and rare for them to have one myth for the length of the show.

I was just bummed that they didn't try it one last time and see if they can get a perfect launch with all force applied to the dummy.

So was using Canada just political correctness?
Yeah, I too was disappointed that they didn't at least come back the next day or something to get in a good launch and see what that things was really capable of.

That's definitely the first episode I've seen where they took up the whole show with 1 myth... and I didn't care for it. The huge slingshot was cool and all, but the show seemed to drag.

I agree. While I don't mind the build team, Jamie and Adam have this great 'back and forth' chemistry (almost like two brothers that either get along well or end up ripping each others head off). The build team is fun every now and then, but they just don't seem to have as much 'camera pressence' as Jamie and Adam.

They get to be a bit too much. I learn more when they focus on Adam and Jamie.

Yeah, I often wonder how they can spend all this time on the pre-experimental phases, take all this time to get to the "actual" phase, and then stop when the day is over. With all that work, you'd think they'd get the $$ to do one more day because they were ALMOST there!

But then there'd be no Kari being Kari and no Tory injuring himself with a goofy stunt, or Grant...well, we don't know what he contributes to the show yet.

- True, but when they take on myths, there's no 'conflict' between the team members and it sometimes gets kinda dull.

Jamie and Adam's 'conflicting' personalities are so great together. In fact, this episode was geat because you got to see the two being a bit opposite than what you usally see...It was great to see Jamie laughing at Adam's goofiness (when he was in the pile of surgical tubes), or when Adam got real serious about safety on the 2nd slingshot they built. Or even when Jamie did the "Touchdown" motion when the dummy flew.
Okay, this one was another good one, with a true Mythbusters-style approach to a problem. Jamie sure looked humbled by his, um, engineering error.

Still, I don't think either of them took the basic myth very seriously. It was just an excuse for wanton distruction and wrecking a car.

The Robin Hood myth was fun (Kari in Ren-faire garb never hurts) even if the end result was pretty easy to predict.

I'm surprised it worked as well as it did. This was the first time I was completely confused as to what they were building.

The whole episode seemed kind of "whatever". Not much planning or thought seemed to go into it. While it was good, it wasn't one of their better ones.
At least they definitely showed not to leave an axe or bowling ball on the rear deck.
In other Mythbuster news, the Discovery Science channel is showing a new British import called "Beyond Tomorrow". One segment each week is an excerpt from the Mythbusters. This week they used the "cell phone blows up gas station" myth.

I wonder how the Brits like Jamie and Adam?

That was pretty hilarious. Definitely noted as a "Don't Do."

This afternoon the channel reran the episode where Kari gets to butt model for the airline toilet suction myth. I've been waitin' for that ep for awhile! The final product was kind of a turn off after all the modifications she made though.

Who cares about the final model? The image of Kari in that flesh-colored body suit more than made up for it.

Am I right that it was Kari's first appearance on the show?
That's my understanding. Here's her bio on the Mythbusters site:

I believe so. That was the first time I ever noticed her, and believe me, if she was on BEFORE that, I'd have noticed.

p.s. Has anyone else noticed that it seems like Kari and Tory have a 'thing' going on?

I'm choosing to ignore that possibility Actually, I think someone else mentioned something going on between her and Adam, but I just learned Adam is a newlywed.

I think we all are

Seriously, I can't tell if it's just the typical "closeness with working together" kind of thing or if there's something more.

Well, Tory has his share of accidents from boneheaded stunts, so we might be seeing a lot of her comforting him after an injury. And if that is the case, I can see why he's always pulling those stunts
post #112 of 311
I cringe everytime they show him trying to hop over that red wagon. Oooooh, that has to smart.

By any chance is this the same girl he was going to date the day after he burnt part of his hair and eyebrows in a gasoline explosion?
Yes, I believe so! The day he got his lip sucked into the vacuum cleaner motor was also when he asked her to marry him.

From the online chat transcript on the site:

Quote:
Adam: I've gotten a couple of nasty gashes. And there was getting my lip caught in a vacuum cleaner. I'd like to add that even with that bruised and bloody lip, I asked my girlfriend to marry me that night. And she agreed.

Imagine the wedding! Broken nose and a sprained foot. And I hope they don't have kids! I don't even want to imagine that one!

Imagine the sex! - err, scratch that.

I still miss Scottie.

And I love the opening of her bio on the Discovery website:

Really fun myths tonight, with Indiana Jones and the life raft parachute.

Poor poor Buster.
My only problem with this show is that sometimes they don't do an "apples-to-apples" comparison. In the Indiana Jones myth, the inflatable raft landed on a snowy hill, not a flat hard terrain which they did.

It was the same with shark week when they did the shark. Instead of going with Jaws' "Godzilla" shark they went with a size that was smaller and lighter because it fits with "known" figures.

Jaws had the Godzilla shark. Doused with radiation, it's bigger, badder and glows in the dark, too.

Other than that, I love the show and got de wife hooked on it as well.

but at the speed it was going, I can't imagine a snowy hill would make much difference.

Yeah, you can definitely tell the airplane cargo drop was really about them wanting a really cool destruction thing to happen (mainly for ratings). The test could NEVER replicate any one specific plane crash and all of the conditions that need to happen to achieve the same results.

Also, you know you've been watching this show for a long time when they were showing the air leaks in the phoney cockpit and you just KNEW something bad was going to happen.
