MythBusters and HTF... - Page 10

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

So who else let out a juvenile snicker when Physics Bob said to Kari, "...and magnetism is what's holding up your top." :b

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

I did get a good laugh at the hands smacking together violently. And the Zombie dog.

Hands smacking and Zombie dog? No wonder you missed the magnetism line....I think you were watching a different show.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

He was. There were 2 new episodes of Mythbusters this last Wednesday night. Their regular episode ends with Adam suggesting a Holiday special which led into the next episode: Holiday Mythbusters.

That Zombie Dog was equal parts goofy and creepy with a good measure of horror thrown in when it met its untimely end.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

Okay, I am hoping someone can help me with my dirty mind on the tree needles experiment.

Kari's face was clashing with her hair when she was talking about "Santa's Little Helper" or "Daddy's Little Helper" or "Mommy's little helper."

The little blue pill, was that a Viagra or other such pill?

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

Yes, they were refering to Viagra.

I watched both episodes.

Speaking of which, anyone else disappointed with their Rube Goldberg machine? Besides the now getting old, mentos and diet coke, it just didn't seem all that special compared to some of the other stuff they have created on the show.

Anyone know which ones they worked on for commercials? The only commercial that comes to mind is that mindblowing Honda commercial from a few years back with the machine made completely out of the car that was stripped apart. But I just checked their portfolio and while Honda is on there, that commercial isn't.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

I think Jamie made the robot sprite or 7-up machine that spits out sodas.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

Yeah I know that one, but Adam mentioned that they had worked on other Rube Goldberg machines in the past for commercials. I couldn't come up with any.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

Anyone else notice that Kari was looking rather "endowed" when she was writing the light bulb figures for Grant.

Showing a bit of stomach, and a nice shirt. Ahhhhhh!

I just saw the special and I do agree that you can tell. Her face was very shiny (i.e. oily).

Anyways, I can definitely confirm the Frozen turkey/Dog killer...well, not exactly confirm, but for a comparison...My cousin has a tiny dog - I forget what the breed is, but it's the same breed that Sharon Osbourne has. The tiny brownish/red puff ball. I think it was called "Mini".

So, my cousin was opening her front door with a cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee in hand, when the dog ran under her foot. Since she was carrying a bunch of stuff and couldn't see the dog, she got tripped up because she was worried about stepping on the dog. As she got tripped up, she dropped her cup of coffee and it hit the dog on the head and knocked it out cold. She thought the dog was dead, but it just had a concussion.

So if a cup of coffee (only dropped from several feet) can do that much damage to a dog, I don't want to think about what a frozen turkey (dropped from an even higher height) could do.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

Did anyone catch the Pirate special. Ugh, I hate these 2 hour shows. WAY too much recapping. but the eye patch theory was quite interesting.

Yeah, the two hour shows get to be a bit boring at times. I usually record them though, so I can fastforward through the commercials and uninteresting parts. I was suprised by the eye patch theory, I guess I'd never really thought of that as a potential use. I'm beginning to wonder just how many more "good" myths there are out there to bust though.

I was waiting for Torey to stab himself with the various cutlery.

I know! These stunts seem to get more and more dangerous!

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

OK, the paper myth I don't think they can really call it busted by using that giant piece of paper they made.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

I think they just proved that it is all proportional to the size of the sheet and the thickness of the paper. If they made that same huge sheet, but kept the thickness in the same proportions they wouldn't have been able to fold it.

That was one big sheet of the white stuff though.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

I liked Kari's tee-shirts, but not so much the 80s style jeans.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

It's been pretty quiet in this thread. Several episodes have come and gone.

This week's most impressive moment was when the chunk of tire smashed through the car window and decapitated the human analog. That was utterly gruesome.

Regarding the drafting test, I see a potential version of Project Gotham Racing where you earn kudos not simply for drafting but for increasing fuel economy

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

The only thing about the truck tire is, I can't imagine a piece flying off at that exact angle (i.e. straight at the windshield). I would imagine that the pieces would hit the inside wheel wells first.

Not that it isn't possible, but I bet it's a very low percentage.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

Yeah, it was definitely the "we couldn't couldn't confirm the myth so let's destroy it all to hell" part of the show.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

It was pretty much the worse of the worse case scenarios. How many decapitations from exploding tires have you heard about? But if all the elements are right, it could be deadly, just not likely to happen. I've been driving down the road before when one of those tires have gone and it scared the crap out of me. Loud bang, debris, sparks and smoke everywhere.

I was kind of surprised that they needed to do the Knight Rider stunt. Not only has that been a staple in the stunt driver circuit, they had average joes do it on Fear Factor before. Maybe they just needed an excuse so they could have fun doing it themselves?

However, there are known reports of commercial truck tire failures causing fatalities on the freeway. I'm surprised that Adam and Jamie didn't investigate the issue of split rims on truck tires, where the failure of the split rims can spray tire bits and the metal shards of the remains of the split rims sideways--a number of car drivers were killed in this fashion.

I was surprised that they didn't interview people that worked on the show to see how they did the stunt.

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

Pretty neat segment on 'a bull in a china shop' last night.
It was amazing how the bulls seemed to try to avoid the china shelves in the holding pen. Another myth busted !

Re: MythBusters and HTF...

I think the mythbusters should anlayze if one can strangle oneself with handcuffs that are behind your back, in relationship to the lady in Arizona who was found dead in a holding cell who was handcuffed around her back. I'd be interested to see how one manages to strangle oneself with them on..
