Sorry!! This is the only thread I remmeber seeing any news on Henery and TExas being re-released in better quality editions, hence Iposted the Henry news. I too would love, love LOVE a new TCM, I'm hoping that with the Henry rumor being confirmed, that the TCM will materialize as well.

Well, VERY disappointing news (would there be any other?) today regarding the new TCM DVD. I e-mailed MPI Home Video asking them why we still haven't heard an announcement on this title and if it was still on schedule for Fall 2005. I also mentioned that I have been watching both sites (MPI Home Video and Dark Sky Films) and that neither site has any information on this title. Here is the reply I got.

Damn! Now I'm stuck with that Pioneer disc and its shitty transfer for a whole 'nother fricken year. Here's a question. Why do they have to release this right in time for Halloween? If it's not ready for this Fall, why not release it this Winter or Spring 2006? Why do some studios think that horror film DVDs can only be released in August, September, and October? I don't want to wait another year. My most anticipated DVD for 2005....damn.

Now that I think about it I'm almost certain the same thing will happen with the Divimax releases of Halloween 4 and 5, as well as the Halloween 1-8 Documentary DVD. You'll notice that these three discs are not mentioned anywhere on Anchor Bay's site. If they were going to be released this Fall, wouldn't we have heard some sort of announcement by now?

Is there anything new on this? Any confirmation on a Fall 2006 release?

I'm in the process of converting some laserdiscs to DVD and, for TCM, I'm thinking of going the extra mile by sync-ing the audio from the DVD with the video from the laserdisc, and transferring any exclusive bonus material as well. I'll probably end up transfering all the interesting bonus stuff as well to create my own SE.

But before I go thru all of that I thought I should at least ask....

This has been airing on Voom's HD Monster channel, and I have it saved on my DVR. The quality blows away the current DVD. If the DVD looks anything like the HD transfer, we're in for a treat.

Look for this new "Chainsaw" to be released in September.

I sure am glad that all of the extras on the Pioneer disc are being carried over to this new two-disc set. Now I won't have to hold onto that Pioneer disc with its crappy non-anamorphic transfer.

I hope the new transfer makes the film look brand new, I never thought the crappy picture added anything to the feel of the film. Also, during the scenes inside the van at the begining, you can't see out the windows. I remember them talking about it on the Pioneer commentary. I wonder if it's possible to fix that with a new transfer.

I know this isn't the thread, but I imagine some Tobe Hooper fans will be reading... SO:

You should check out Hoop's amazing episode of Masters of Horror--"Dance of the Dead"--which will hopefully pop up on Showtime again (and will eventually be issued on dvd). It's brazen, incendiary work, and some of the director's best.

Because it's incredibly assaultive, stylistically speaking, it's been embraced by precious few and rejected by many with assumedly more mainstream taste.

Personally, I thought it was a great match of material to director, and Hooper--always a mad, visceral filmmaker--is completely unbound here... "Dance of the Dead" is off the hook, and there's a poetry to it. Highly recommended.

Not from MPI, but from Dark Sky Films, a company of very high standards. Their recent DVD of Magic looks fantastic. I emailed them for the full specs; I'll post them if and when I recieve a reply.

What don't you like about it? I think it looks great, right on par with Pioneer's 1998 cover and a hell of a lot better than their 2003 covers, with the chainsaw blade and the ground beef package. Damn, those were awful.

I don't think it's going to be, but I've heard that it's not that great anyway. It was made back in 1986 or 1988 and they only interviewed Gunnar Hansen, Jim Siedow, Edwin Neal, and John Dugan. I think it's about one hour long and supposedly it goes for real cheap on DVD. I've heard a lot of people say they've found it in the Wal*Mart $5.00 bin. Yeah, I'm amazed at how beautiful it looks. And I'm sure these pictures don't do it justice. It will probably look even better when we actually see it. Pioneer's flawed transfer pales in comparison to this new one from Dark Sky. I did a comparison at the Friday the 13th Forum. Post #254.

IFC (Independent Film Channel, Channel 550 on DirecTV Satellite) is airing the original 1974 "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" tonight at midnight (Eastern) and again at 3:00 AM Eastern. The 1974 original very rarely gets shown on television anymore, as opposed to the 2003 remake which is always on. The interesting thing is, which transfer will they use? Could it possibly be the transfer on Dark Sky's upcoming DVD? Obviously, IFC's broadcast won't be HD (neither will the DVD, but the DVD will benefit from 16x9 enhancement), but it could be from the same source, presented in 4x3 letterbox.

Screen-caps please to show that the new version is "cropped" compared to the old one?

Don May told me that the exact OPPOSITE is true, that the newer High-Def telecines allowed him to show MORE of the original 16mm frame on all four sides compared to what he was able to do back when he did the LaserDisc transfer for Elite. So please, show some screen caps showing the same frame from the Elite transfer circa 1996 compared with this new HD transfer, and then we'll talk about aledged "cropping".
