SOPRANOS Season 6: Season Finally!!!.. Episode 12: "KAISHA" - Page 26

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 8: "Johnny Cakes"

True, but with the fact HBO reshows it so many times during the week, doesn't really seem to be a valid reason for skipping it. Seems more like an excuse for HBO to drag out showing the Season Finale.

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 8: "Johnny Cakes"

HBO skipping the Memorial Day weekend is nothing new. They've done it with Six Feet Under as well as any other series running in the March to June slot. It always seems to be time to havbe a two week wait until the finale.

Not a huge deal IMO, considering the amount of breaks we put up with on the major networks.

Yeah, his character is bodyguard Perry Annunziata, and Tony nicknamed him Penne Arrabiata because he was a hothead [Arrabiata is a spicy gravy].

Finally was able to watch this weeks show last night. Let me make sure I understand something here. All you have to do is be a midget and tell some kid the club boss says hello and they hand you a couple hundred dollars each time? Man, I'm in the wrong business and about 3 feet to tall!

I have to admit, I didn't get why AJ was giving him money either, unless he was a drug connection who was owed cash or something.

Yeah, there are never long breaks between seasons of the Sopranos.

Great point, and one which the show has made before, but it was most effective this time.

Easter is a holiday when usually everyone is home with family. Memorial Day is the First "Get Away" vacation time of the summer when everyone is out side and not in front of their Tv's, well I mean everone besides us

HBO has done the same thing in previous years with the Sopranos. No big deal, as far as I am concerned.

It is the club's way of scamming AJ because they let his underage friends in to drink, plus they probably are looking the other way about the drugs, etc. AJ just puts up with it instead of turning the tables on them like any other "gangster" would.

True, hadn't thought of that. I just figured he was paying him because he was a midget, and hey, midgets are entertaining. Kind of like the court jesters of old, symbolic linking to AJ and his ascension to the throne. Isn't that what The Sopranos is, symbolism?

My point exactly. After such a long hiatus between Season 5 and Season 6, I think skipping a week is in poor taste.

They skipped Memorial Day weekend before the finale last season too (well, two years ago ).

A lot of people base their HBO subscriptions around Sopranos seasons so by extending the season until June instead of ending in May they get another month's revenue under the assumption that someone will wait until June ends before canceling.

I agree that it seems in poor taste to skip an episode on Memorial Day weekend if you're not going to skip on a major religious holiday (Easter Sunday).

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 8: "Johnny Cakes"

Memorial Day weekend is a 3 day weekend whereas Easter is not. Many people would be out of town as it is the first holiday with warm weather.

I've always had to work the day after Easter unless I used a vacation day.

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 8: "Johnny Cakes"

Good episode.

I think the mentioned frustration of Tony and AJ makes sense and is interesting (about the only interesting part of the AJ character) as demonstrated that Tony doesn't want AJ to go his way, but if he did, at least be good at it, and AJ choked.

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 9: "The Ride"

That was a great episode. All the stuff with Christopher and Tony was really good.

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 9: "The Ride"

"We're with The Vipers" I liked seeing how Tony is addicted to the 'juice' that he gets from committing crimes.

I was happy to see Janice again... until I remembered how terrible of a person she is when she started with the neck problems. Tony saw it coming and tried to stop it. Not even Tony Soprano can stop the annoyance of Janice though.

I liked seeing how Christopher is still broken up over Adriana. And him watching Saw 2 at the beginning of the episode was amusing.

Paulie's saying "mas-ass-tasize" was pretty funny too. While it wasn't spelled out, I'd guess Paulie has prostate cancer.

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 9: "The Ride"

Good episode but very depressing for me (not meant to be a complaint). There was a lot of sadness, both overt and implied, in this episode.

The shallowness of the characters continues to be shown as does the gradual diminishment of the power of the mob.

Some interesting tidbits in next week's previews: Tony consoling a sobbing Meadow, Christopher yelling at what looks like a Fed, etc. Of course we all know that previews are never misleading right?

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 9: "The Ride"

Best line of the night

Tony to Paulie "Your doing a great job Brownie"

I was laughing so hard

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 9: "The Ride"

Good episode that seemed to highlight how discontented just about every character is right now. Of course, Vito wasn't in this one, because he seemed very content at the end of last week (which I doubt will last).

The previews have become very misleading, and almost silly. In last week's preview, you saw Janice yelling "Somebody get an ambulance!" which turned out to be not nearly as dramatic a moment as it seemed. It's not really worth watching the previews, except to get a kick out of how HBO is playing with the viewers.

Agreed... the flashback scene where Christopher tells Tony about Adriana was the best scene of the season so far, IMHO.

I didn't like how Tony does not understand Chris' drug dependance problem. He seems to not take it seriously at all and is a horrible influence on Chris.

I think that's pretty realistic, though - Tony is "old school"; there's no way he can relate to Chris' drug addiction.

The flashback to Chris telling Tony about Adrianna was a great scene - "fills in" a major point from last season, and remains a major influence on Tony and Chris' relationship.

Will Carmela accept Tony's explanation about Ade's disappearance? Carm's already had a dream with Ade in it; she's now heard from Ade's mom that she thinks Chris killed her - how tough would it be for Carm to connect the dots?

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 9: "The Ride"

Michael Imperioli's acting in that scene was perfect. Just the right mixture of despair, grief, embarrassment and fear.

I think Tony's treatment of Chris is pretty realistic. He wants to help him, but in the power structure, needs to remind Chris that he is flawed. Keep him down.

Absolutely. The whole first half of the episode was great(everything with Tony and Christopher), but it got a little slow in the second half IMHO.

Does anyone else think Paulie looking out the window at the dead leaves is foreshadowing to him dying from cancer? How crazy would it be for all of the stuff that's happened with his character that in the end he doesn't get whacked, but rather dies from a disease?

I'm not so sure. When he was at the Bing and saw the image of Mary on the stage (which is f-ed up to be sure), it could have been a sign that the news later in the day was either good for a reason, or bad for a reason. Either way, it was a sign for him to start making things right, IMHO. Of course, given his demeanor in the final scene, he sure doesn't want to go without a fight.

She would have to be a complete moron to not be able to deduce what happened to Ade. She is not a complete moron.

Re: SOPRANOS Season 6: New this week.. Episode 9: "The Ride"

awesome episode. the flashback was the best scene in the whole season! And yes I think the leaves foreshadowed death for Pauly, but not necessairly from cancer.....

"She is not a complete moron."

No but there is a self delusion and naiveness.

Remember her reaction when the doctor she went to see(referred to her by Melfi),said the word"Mafia". She was nearly hysterical.

I was disappointed in Christopher. I had said hes going to step up - gets married, house, talks about family, blah blah and then he shoots up. I actually felt disappointed, although I loved the scenes of him high. The dog in the background and then hes shown petting and feeding the dog Another great scene.

In addition to what Jon said, Adriana and Christopher didn't have the best relationship (Christopher smacking her around, both of them were doing too many drugs, constantly arguing) so her just leaving Christopher isn't unbelievable. If Adriana actually had wanted to end it the relationship and Christopher hadn't, Adriana would have had to run away anyway.
