After Taxi S2 and the Bob Newhart Show in april (Yeah!!!) this is my next wish for a sitcom to debut on dvd, so any news yet?
"What, Where...."

A LOT of people feel strongly that this title "must" be one of the releases Warner plans for their year-long celebration of 50 years of Warner TV, and that it has to come to DVD this year.

The honest-to-God truth is that the studio hasn't telegraphed any moves about this show whatsoever. Kotter may indeed be coming out before the end of the year. If it is, it's a very well-kept secret!

I had no idea it was still so popular on the dvd wishlist. I have not been here for a while and I have'nt seen any news items about it on tvsondvd.com
Kotter and Happy Days were my very favorites as a kid, Especially Happy Days!
Don't worry Dave, I always take these things with a grain of salt. like your He-Man item. It's great news, but as you say "it's still early, anything can happen between now and then." I always wait until I see that link to amazon to actually dance around my desk.

Oh, He-Man's coming all right! Don't you dare suggest otherwise. Take it back! :p)

Well, just between you and me Dave my money is already spent and I did do a small jig around my desk.
Just a little one.

Hey, we learn something new every day I had cousins down there for years. "down there" from Dallas, that is.... I won't mention my "record" drive time from here to there....the Texas Rangers would be looking for me ("Walker, Texas Ranger", that is )

Hey Jeff, nice to know I'm not the only one, I'm a bionic fan too. That is, as long as it's not the Jim Carrey movie.
Give me the originals or nothing at all!

Glad you made it out Dave.
Personally, give me Lynda Carter and a private island and I'm there!

BTW, which season did John Travolta and Gabe leave Kotter?

Randy,

I hear that (about the Carrey movie ) The only reason I want that movie to get here is that there's a theory that Universal will be timing the release of the original series DVD's with the movie release. I hope that the DVD's get here sooner because someone recently sent me a post from a "coming soon" movie site that quoted Jim Carrey as saying that this movie is still "far off" in it's timeline.

As for the Kotter question, here's the info from "TV TOME" site (s great site, by the way)

After three years, Gabe Kaplan was getting tired. He hadn't expected as long a run as came about; so he made a deal. On the show, Kotter was made Vice-Principal, and thus was seen considerably less. John Travolta, of course, found his own place as a celebrity, leaving the show around the same time as Gabe Kaplan did (returning every so often as a "special guest star"). The replacement for Barbarino was Beau, who didn't help things much. By now the show had essentially lost its two biggest stars.

That's where I think I'll stop buying. Beau just gets on my nerves.
But the seasons up to that would be must buys for me!
I would'nt even mind a "The Complete 1st & 2nd Seasons" bundle.
And we need some new Kotter merchandise too!
Like "Up your nose with a rubber hose" T-shirts!

I know what you mean about the "bionic" movie. I'll just leave it to 6 years old kids and the two people who actually like the Charlie's Angels movies and I'll stay home and watch the SMDM & Bionic Woman dvd's.

Beats me why everyone of these rip-off movies have to one big joke.
Seeing Steve, or his reincarnation taking out terrorist might've been really cool!
But no we get a spoof. Oh well they lost my 6 bucks.

Great line from Kotter

I agree, I'd get only Seasons 1 & 2.

That's a BIG 10-4 on that "Carrey" movie but if what we've been hearing about the timing of the DVD releases with the movie release is true, then "c'mon, Jim C and make that movie"
I only hope that Universal's going to release the DVD's way before then since I read that the movie's still a ways off from becoming a reality. They really let me down when Universal included the Bionic Woman "teaser" in the "Coming to DVD in 2004" chapter on that promo DVD (the one that was free at "Best Buy" stores), then delayed the release until this year.

In your rear with scubagear...

The way I heard it, Gabe Kaplan was unhappy that the writing staff was changed in the 4th season and the new writers didn't understand what the show was about, so he refused to appear in most of the episodes, resulting in Mrs. Kotter suddenly becoming a teacher!

My hopes are not high for a release this month.

Just a best of with 3 episodes or so?

I swear, if Ron Palillo is in any way responsible for holding this release up, I'm going to ring his neck!

R. Kay, I see you're from New York. Did you happen to catch Ron hosting 70's Saturday Night on WB11 a few months ago? I was hoping then that he'd mention a possible season 1 dvd release.
I'd consider buying "Kotter" in season sets, but I'm not touching any "best of" discs...

Another "Quote of the year" for me as well. I just can't see buying a "best of" set but I guess it serves a purpose for some that might not want an entire season's set of something or as a sampler.

Nope. Didnt even know about it. I would assume if Pallilo wasnt getting any money for the dvd release, I wouldnt think he'd mention it ..

What if that's the only way we can get a season set of Welcome Back,Kotter?I have a feeling that Warner Bros. are releasing the "best of" disc to test the waters, for the potential of a season set.If the "best of" doesn't sell,to their expectations, then, unfortunately,we won't be getting a season set.
I'll buy the best of disc, if its priced low enough as I want season sets, and this may be a way to test the market like Sony did with Married...with Children. So if its priced low enough, I'm in.

I'll buy if it comes out just to have something to enjoy in the mean time.
I don't have a problem with best ofs discs as long as they release season sets too.
And sometime I just want to watch a single episode and don't want to go through the trouble of looking for a good episode to pop in. I think of it as having a museum copy and a public library copy.
We already know that it's a test, but geez they must know it'll sell! It's kotter not some no name show.

dose any one konw what the three episodes are?

Re: Any news on Welcome Back, Kotter???

Has anyone heard if the remaining seasons of Welcome Back Kotter will be released. There is a rumour of a a movie staring Ice Cube.

I love 1970s and 1980s tv, it help define a generation. It is too bad that this another stalled season.
