Dear lord, I hope that's true. Even if he doesn't play Frank Black, I think it's cool that he may be in it at all.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

With Chris Carter's tendency to reuse actors in different roles -- even in the same series -- I wouldn't be surprised if Henriksen is a different character. Most famously, Terry O'Quinn dies in the movie, comes back as a super soldier in season 8, played Peter Watts on "Millenium" (which was established as being the same universe as X-Files). Jason Beghe also had a small role in the movie although he played a different character that died in season one.

Chris Carter, God bless him, is loyal to his troupe of actors.

He was also a cop in the S2 episode 'Aubrey'.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

it's nice to be an xphile again. been a while (hell, it was hard after the movie).

i attribute a lot of the shows ultimate downfall to the LA move, so I'm REALLY happy they're shooting the whole thing in Vancouver. I remember an interview with Duchvony from a while back saying that when they do do a sequel it would be coming back to BC. So its nice they kept that in mind.

glad it's also not following the mythology. as much as I actually started enjoying the Season 9, in a X Files: The Next Generation type way, it's nice to know Mulder and Scully will be solving mysteries not pertaining to super soldiers or whatever the hell else Carter and Duchovny made up by the end.

The production name for the film is DONE ONE, btw. Which I think is hilarious.

Anyways, Im excited.

My sentiments exactly. Doggett was a great character, and it's not his fault the writing fell in the toilet in S9.

It would be nice at least to give him an appearance in the new film, and Terry O'Quinn as well.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

It's definitely the right time to bring back The X-Files. I watched the show from the pilot until the middle of season 7--I just couldn't enjoy the convoluted mythology episodes anymore. But years after the final episode would have people looking back with fondness or at least some semblance of reassessment.

90s nostalgia has a way of pulling me back. No sooner had Fox announced the second X-Files movie, but HMV had all nine seasons on sale for $20 CAD. I bought all of them and the movie and will now count down until the new movie premieres next week (I'll also have to find out where they're filming in my city).

Now all I need is a Kurt Cobain biopic and my 90s nostalgia is complete!

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

Some intriguing cast members have signed on. Xzibit and Amanda Peet will play FBI agents and Billy Connolly has been cast in an unknown role. They're keeping it all secret to protect the storyline.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

I'm filled with nostalgia seeing David Duchovny and Chris Carter together.

And Xzibit certainly looks the part and since he's in Oliver Stone's new movie, I'm assuming he's got some acting chops.

Maybe they're trying to do something comedic in the Jose Chung/Clyde Bruckman vein.

Since some of the most beloved stand alone episodes are the comedic ones (Small Potatoes is another great one), it would make sense that they might try to emulate that in a movie.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

It's far from certain but the fact that Mulder is dressed more casually (if DD is even shooting during these scenes and not just hanging around onset) could indicate that this is indeed set after "The Truth" with Mulder & Scully no longer in the FBI.

I know that Xfilesnews.com FAQ says Spotnitz confirmed that it would be set after the end of the series but they don't provide any source for their information.

That would make sense. Not that the audience can't just suspend their disbelief but it's been more than 5 years since the series ended so they certainly look older than they did in the rumored 1999/S7 timeframe.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

i recall reading somewhere that the Mulder and Scully happen to be where the events of the movie take place. So judging by the pictures, its safe to assume Xibit and Peet are sent out to investigate whatever has occurred and learn its an X-File from interacting with Mulder and Scully.

part of me wishes this film didn't exist in the continuity of the show. it would be nice if Mulder and Scully were agents and this was just a stand alone film with no connections anywhere.

i have faith however.

No aliens... no X-Files mythology.. it's going to be a stand alone movie.

Holy Lord those are beautiful to behold!

I love that they still dress them in long coats.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

I didn't think I was all that excited about a new X-Files movie, but those photos were just so cool to see that I'm realising I'm more interested than I thought.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

OMG!!! Those two pics are awesome. Gillian Anderson still looks amazing, MILF prime - if I swung that way.

Still a bit unclear as to how this all unfolds - so it is confirmed it's set after the series finale? Guess I'll have to find a synopsis of the last two or three seasons just to know the circumstances that lead up to whatever circumstances lead up to the movie's stand alone story. Haha.

Probably not. The movie will probably be so stand alone that if you know that Mulder and Scully investigate paranormal stuff, you'll probably be up to speed.

Well, basically general stuff that I really have no idea about past season 4 or season 5 like (I guess I'll spoiler this):

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I see no FBI badges in those pics, do either of them still work for the FBI? If not, I'm assuming they just take vacations together now or something?

I don't know if it'll carry over (but for continuity's sake, I hope it does) but Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Mulder and Scully were on the run and no longer FBI agents at the end of the series. They're also a couple by the end of S8 too.
Admittedly, those are reasonably big elements but I think they'll cover what you need to know at the beginning to bring everyone up to date who stopped watching after the first movie.

One of the images released, but not shown here, features Duchovny from behind wearing a dark blue jacket with FBI in big yellow letters on the back.

Fairly big spoiler at JoBlo and kinda gives you an idea on where the film is going in this one. But if you're sensitive to spoilers... don't click.

EXCL: X-Files set pics!

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

I could be wrong but I don't think those pics show any more than what will be seen in any of the advertising or mentioned in publicity interviews.

I had no idea this was coming so soon! I figured xmas 2008 at the earliest.

With Indy, Batman, Iron Man, Hellboy and now X Files, this is going to be one big summer!

I caught it earlier today. It was from a audience members camcorder of the trailer they showed. Looks like YouTube deleted it now
Was not the best quality, but the 30 second clip left me hungry for more.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

I was at the WonderCon panel presentation on Saturday, and the debut of the "trailer" and subsequent introductions of Frank, Chris, Gillian, and David were more in keeping with a rock concert than a Q&A session. I've never heard that kind of reaction to movie footage before, and the volume of screaming for our heroes is not done justice by that YouTube clip. It was certainly an X-hilarating X-perience, and I'm totally pumped to see the film in July. This just may be the dark horse-sleeper-blockbuster of Summer 2008.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

I suspect it'll have a good front-loaded opening, but it'll have to be damn good for repeat business or superlative word of mouth, even to the non-X-philes.

Re: Second X-Files Movie in 2006 (Now Maybe 2008?)

There's a lot of buzz here in Vancouver about the X-Files shoot and there have been a lot of people trying to sneak around and take blurry photographs. I didn't live here when the series was filmed in the 90s, but I know a lot of people who talk about how well-regarded the cast and crew are, especially since there are so many TV/film productions here (Despite Duchovny's bitching about the weather back in the day. It could've been worse, they could have shot in Edmonton or Winnipeg--now that's cold!).

I watched the youtube clip and now I want to see a proper teaser/full-length trailer immediately! I'm surprised how stoked I am to see the film!
