Hmmm, so that CNN article at least confirms it's a contemporary story then. I was rather hoping they'd keep references to later-season melodramatic stuff out of the film, but what are you gonna do...

The trailer does look solid...great tagline!

I like that title. This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year.

Hopefully this will do well because I'd love to see the X-Files continued through a movie franchise...

I like it too. My only 'complaint' is that it seems like a better title for a mythology story rather than a monster story.

JonZ, out of curiosity, this is the second time you've linked movie stills that upon clicking one of them has sent me to a photo of some random female celebrity. (It happened in The Dark Knight thread as well) Are you doing that on purpose (not that I really mind... ) or is Imagevenue.com just incompetent?

When is the trailer supposed to show up? Isn't this releasing this summer, or am I confused? I'd have thought the trailer shown at whatever Con that was a while back would have been available for official download by now.

Does anybody know anything about the script or plot details of this film? I'm asking because I haven't watched a single "X-Files" episode in nearly 10 years. I recently ordered the complete set in order to begin the whole series from scratch, but with summer fast approaching I'll be lucky to complete the first season before the movie arrives. I'd like to be back up to speed when I see the movie and I'm wondering if there is any immediate benefit.

Supposedly Scully's son, William, is involved in the plot, so you may want to watch the season/episodes about him. I need to do the same. I completely forgot she even had a child.

But it's not supposed to include the "mythology" that the show got bogged down in, so it should be easier to follow for people who have never seen the show, or forgotten most of it.

I have no idea how real it is but AICN has what is supposed to be a synopsis taken from the novelization's solicitation:

Do You WANT TO BELIEVE This Plot Description For The New X-FILES Movie?? -- Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

My guess is that you won't need to know the mythology to enjoy the movie (like Chris Carter has been saying) but there will be a couple of references for the hardcore fans.

From everything I have read, it seems the new movie takes place 5 or 6 years after the end of the series, not during it. I think there was a rumor a while back that it would be a stand-alone movie that took place within the series timeframe, but that seems to have changed.

Since it's been 6 years since the show ended, I think the obvious age difference in Duchovny and Anderson made it necessary to set it after the series. Not that the audience can't just suspend their disbelief but if you can just set it in 2008 without any real problems, why not do that?

I believe the movie being set before the series finale was just rumor based on speculation due to the fact the the series ended in such a way that they'll have to do some explaining as to why Mulder and Scully are now working on an X File.

That was a common rumor before any real details were known and it was quickly squashed. I think it was more wishful thinking than anything because it's the only way a lot of beloved characters could appear.

Blah! I wish they would have made this movie a complete stand-alone. I couldn't bring myself to watch those seasons, nor do I know anyone who did.
