Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

Hmm. I'm very interested to see what direction this will take. Tron is one of my favorite movies and I pray that Disney does not royally screw the remake up.

Why do I think the Tron Guy will have some role in this version?

Hell yeah! I love that movie.

The already remade Tron in 1999.

It was called THE MATRIX.

Seriously though, there's charm and a lot of originality in 1982's Tron that you wouldn't be able to duplicate or improve upon in a remake.

LET IT GO, DISNEY. MAKE THE FRIGGIN' SEQUEL INSTEAD.

Years ago I worked with Steven Lisberger's wife at a company owned by Donald Kushner, the producer of Tron. I talked to her about Tron and the potential sequel. At the time(around 2000) she told me that they already had the script for the sequel but needed the money to produce it. I guess Disney wasn't onboard for the sequel.

Didn't Tron severely flop in 1982 (The year of E.T.)? Although I thought it was quite an oddball at the time, I somehow think a remake (or sequel) might be successful. On second thought, maybe not.

What happened to "Tron 2.0"?

Yeah, Tron guy is certainly odd. The pictures on his website doesn't show the cameltoe I originally saw on fark.com... Yikes!

Still not as weird as Peter Pan guy

I thought this was supposed to come out years ago. Isn't there a trailer (or something) for it on the Tron SE DVD?

Tron 2.0 was a game developed my Monolith. Pretty good one too, and it perfectly captured the look and feel of the movie. Even had Bruce Boxleitner as a cameo playing Alan Bradley - or the voice thereof.

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

I didn't know a sequel was this far along already? With Jeff Bridges returning no less! Was this even announced?

I didn't even know they were working on this.

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

Good to know it's going to be a sequel after all. The 2.0 game was cool. I loved the original. I'm on board.

Holy shit this is kick ass! I thought the TRON 2.0 video game was great but this has me literally excited for the sequel finally being made!
About damn time!

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

Quality is beyond horrible but.. here's the teaser nevertheless.

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

Awesomeness. I'm glad it's a sequel and not a remake.

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

Haven't seen Tron in years but remember watching it when it first came out. Anyone remember the arcade game? The lightcycle race was probably my favorite part.

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

'Bit' had this to say upon notification:

"YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!"

Well, actually it was "1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 " but I digress.

There is a 62.7% chance this won't suck. Can we please update the subject heading to "TR2N: The sequel to TRON" or something along those lines? Thx.

END OF LINE

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

Nice article on what's going on with this project. Looks like John Lasseter was the one really pushing this forward.

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

I just barely watched the trailer and two words will accurately describe my feelings for this sequel:
I'M THERE!
I've been wanting a sequel to TRON ever since I saw it when I was a kid.
Agreed about the header should be changed. Possibly "TR2N: The Sequel to TRON" or something? It's not a remake but a sequel! Jeff Bridges is back!
I wonder how the filmmakers will acknowledge the TRON 2.0 video game?

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

i'm surprised they decided on TR2N and not T2.ON

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

I wonder if that light cycle bit shown in the teaser will actually make it in to the final film, or was it done only to convince the suits that a sequel was viable?

It certainly looked too derivative of the first film.

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

I can't believe they have pretty much left Steven Lisberger out of this. Tron was his baby long before Disney got involved. Typical Hollywood!

I guess they forgot about how "great" Hot Pursuit and Slipstream were... wait..

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

Haven't seen those, so I can't comment on them. I liked Animalympics though! An early version of the Tron character appears at the beginning.

I'm a little let down that teaser is actually a demo reel. I was really wondering if Jeff Bridges' character went back into the computer world, and had been held prisoner all these years!

Lassetter of all people should know how it feels to have Disney make a sequel without the original creator at the helm. I sometimes think the merger went through just so he could kill off Disney's Toy Story 3!

Re: Tron Remake in the Works at Disney

Well, it looks like that article might've been exaggerating a bit...

Jim Hill’s piece on Tr2n sounds very dramatic but actually we are trying to put all the drama into the script. I can assure you I am very much involved with Tr2n. It’s a collaborative effort just like the first film was. We have a very talented and dedicated young group and I am doing my best to inspire them as much as they are inspiring me. The trailer, as amazing as it is, is only the beginning.

That does put things in a better light. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I really should rebuy the 20th Anniversary 2-Disc of the first film before the sequel comes out. TRON 2.0 I nearly beat but my computer crashed on me a couple years ago and it's only $9.99 USD on AMAZON.
I'd love to see a higher resolution version of that teaser/taste trailer. Can't wait! Wonder if Bruce Boxleitner, et al. are returning?

Why? Disney will no doubt release it on Blu-ray before the new film hits.

Cause I'm still waiting to buy a receiver first before I buy a Blu-ray player (Mebbe just the Monoprice component switcher for now? I also gradually upgrade my HT equipment too.). And the 20th Anniversary is one of those DVD's I've been meaning to repurchase since 2003 (I had to sell alot of my collection back then to pay off some debts). I'll buy a BD version if it carries over ALL the extras from the 2-Disc. Knowing them since they carried over everything from the PotC films on DVD to BD, I don't think there'd be much to worry about.
For $9.99 USD, TRON 2.0 for PC is practically a steal! I did get really far in the game though.
AND lastly, I'll wait for the HVD rather than the Blu-ray.
