"Hey, it's your hippy dippy weatherman"

All kidding aside, George has recognized he has a problem, he says its too much wine and Vicodin, and he's going to take care of it.

I loved this part of the story

"Three weeks ago, he ended a four-year run at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a "dark set," in the words of the New York Post's "Page Six" column, and told his audience, "People who go to Las Vegas, you've got to question their [bleeping] intellect," according to a report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal."

Maybe now he figures someone will call him up for an interview.

Publicity stunt. Plain and simple. Why announce your addiction to the world when it wasn't rumored to begin with? Why not just silently get the treatment you need and move on w/ your life and career?

or maybe he didn't want to try to "secretly" enter rehab and then have an employee of the facility spill the beans only to have the media speculate on the reason he entered rehab (cocaine? heroin?). honestly, do you believe any celebrity can enter rehab without the rest of the world finding out two days later?

Better for him to say it outright than to have a cheap tabloid mangle the truth as usual.

Oh no! George Carlin used profanity and insulted people???

What's next? J-Lo will get engaged again? Britney Spears will wear revealing clothes? Fear Factor will make people eat disgusting things? A frivilous law suit will be filed somewhere in the US? ....

So, I guess that SNL will now parody him passed out in a pool of his own vomit.

Or is that only for celebrities they don't agree with???

Well, hard as it may be to imagine, possibly he wants to share his story in order to discourage others from going in the same direction...? Even famous people might occasionally have an altruistic motive.
