Dead Like Me cancelled

It's not official, but on several Dead Like Me messageboard there are postings by people saying the show has been cancelled.

The biggest Board is this one:

http://www.deadlikemeonline.com/forum/index.php

According to one poster they were negotiating about getting a shorter third season until today but Showtime president Robert Greenblatt ended negotiations today.

The main reason was that he didn't like the show.

huh what? that is crap..this is/was a GREAT show! One of the few reasons to hold on to Showtime other than the Seymore Butts Strictly BusinASS show, IMO...
I hope this does not remain like this. I really love this show and hope they at least do one more season.
That's too bad. I liked it.

I recently got the first season on disc and am looking forward to checking it out. Maybe if it's that good, another network will pick it up and continue it.

Only HBO could pick the show up - on any normal network they would have to castrate the show completely.

The realistic language and the adult themes/references would all have to be cut.

Since Six Feet Under is supposedly going six feet under after the next season (I've only seen the two seasons on disc, but I really like it), it might be possible. I'm told that if you like one, you'll probably like the other, so HBO might be able to hang onto the Six Feet Under audience with it.

I hope it doesn't get cancelled, it was like a breath of fresh air. Nowadays, all the shows are the same with just spinoff's of each other
post #9 of 163
I missed the show greatly (was in the middle of Season 2) when I switched from Dish HD to my cable HD feed (which doesn't offer Showtime HD). This show alone would have been enough for me to pick up Showtime HD as soon as my cable added the channel, but if it truely is cancelled, I'll save $10 a month, because there aren't enough new movies per month (1?) to warrant the purchase otherwise.

My whole house-of-housemates fell in love with Dead Like Me on DVD, and we've been looking forward to the next seasonS on DVD.

They can't just end this show without a resolution to the characters' stories!

Terrible news, made worse by the ungraceful way the person who reported it on the DLM boards, reported it.
So, this is all speculation right now and hasnt been confirmed? I'll miss the show too. I liked where it was going. Honestly, Free For All was the only other showtime original I used to watch besides standup specials or boxing.

Huff is OK, but will not fill this void if this is true.
I'll trade four Huff's for one Dead Like Me.
If this is indeed true, count me in the very dissappointed camp. At the end of last season they really opened up a lot of possibilities for where the show could go, and I was looking forward to seeing them explored.

Say it ain't so.
Boo. I haven't even seen the 2nd season yet(no showtime), I hope this is false.

I don't think it'll change anything - but here's a link to the obligatory online petition:

Still not "offical" but this is on Fansite forum. Form a guy who used to be an old Army buddy with Ellen Muth's father, and confirmed many times to be legit. She plays George on the show.

Just talked to Eric Muth, the show is cancelled. Seems it was "too expensive" to make, what crap!! I told him it may be a blessing after all; Ellen will do well in whatever role. Let's hope they at least put season two on DVD. Well, I'm going drive my musclecar out of frustration. P.S. I asked Eric to convey "our" feelings to Ellen. Ya'll take care, Dave

I have already canceled showtime. and sign the petition.

IT was one of the best shows on TV. And the only good show showtime has.

Maybe the Season DVD sets will sell well and make showtime rethink there decision.
Fuck showtime.

I had tried to give Huff a chance, but man, that show is a complete dissapointment (as you can tell by my abandoning the thread)

Dead Like Me was an original idea.. something Showtime has seriously been lacking.

I'll cancel my subscription on Monday.
I give up!

Every show I really like seems to get cancelled. Maybe I should just start watching all the mindless drivel that fills the airwaves and see if my magic works on those shows.

Huff is ok, but it doesn't capture my imagination or interest near as much as Dead Like Me.

On regular TV I'm pretty much down to Enterpise (which is back in the mix this year) and Arrested Development as two shows I "won't miss" but I TiVO some of the Law & Order.. but they aren't what they were.. I don't know, there isn't much on right now that's interesting and really different.

HBO has several shows that I really enjoy, and thankfully, one starts it's new season soon (Carnivale)

It just seems to me like HBO is willing to stand behind their quirky/different series and everyone else bails. If it weren't for Arrested Development, I would have given up hope on Broadcast TV putting together a sitcom worth a darn.
Well I am cancelling Showtime Monday as well. The only thing I watch on it are Dead Like Me and Penn & Tellers Bullshi*.
LOST gave me some hope that broadcast TV can still pull up a good one now and then although ABC was very iffy on it and I am sure the ratings surprised the hell out of them.
I do subscribed to HBO for its original programming.

I've pretty much given up on it altogether.

I might catch something on TLC, The Food Network, or Discovery ... and that's about it.
This isn't good if the news is true. I watched season one on DVD (and can't wait for season 2 to make it to DVD).

It's pretty much official now - at the messageboard at www.ellen-muth.com it was confirmed by Ellen Muth's father.

He said that it was cancelled because the show was too expensive.

So it looks like it was the Gravelings that killed the show - there aren't many TV shows with that much CGI in each episode.
Such crap. I hope Showtime looses a lot of money from this instead of "saving" it.
Dang it.... I guess a graveling got to the show.
Major bummer.

Best show on TV, IMHO.
This is a bummer, but on the bright side my cable bill will get a lot cheaper.

It is bizarre, isn't it? It's almost as if there's some unspoken rule against quality.
