Our own Mike Frezon makes the papers!

Thread Starter
I know this isn't coupons & bargains but it's related since Mike's the Man as far as letting us all know of bargains.

Our local (Albany, NY) newspaper has an article on Mike's sister, who is an expert on fruitcakes. Mike is quoted!

Sorry Mike

Mike's Sister's Fruitcake

We can now say we knew him when...

... when he couldn't get Best Buy coupons to save his life!

And for a minute I thought that link said "Mike's Sister's a fruitcake" Now THAT would have been a story!

"Dad was just being nice," he says.
Oh, that just made my day.

Thanks for posting that, Adam. Entertaining article.

And the description of the mall's environment in the early part of the story brought back memories for me, of working at the CVS there my last year-and-a-half of college. Since Mike's sister works at the Apple store there, she may have even come through my line at CVS at some point.

Yes, but I can say I MET him when...

Ironically, at that same mall. Crossgates IS the social hub of Albany, sad as that is.

This article just goes to show that no matter what age you are, you're never too old to bicker with a sibling.

Congrats, Mike!

You never know who will like fruitcake. John Derbyshire, the crusty old curmudgeon of National Review Online www.nationalreview.com , sings its praises to anyone who will listen - which at NRO is an audience of one.

I've got sooooooo much I could say. But, in the spirit of the holidays, I won't.

Let me just say I bet The Ted is quite jealous.

Dennis: is it lonely just being that "one"?

Jeff: Thanks for pointing this out to everyone! I was figuring...aaaaah, no big deal...who's gonna wanna read an article about fruitcake, anyway? Well, the phone started ringing early Saturday morning...and then I sign on to the HTF!!!!

Now we need some of that fruitcake, of course.
(Or at least a revealing pic!)

Well, Cees, if I can, I'll scan later the picture that appeared in the local paper. In the meantime...if anyone seems to be truly interested...my sister actually has a website on the subject.

She actually just got interviewed by the BBC the other day.

Forget the fruitcake, I just want to know if Mike gets any good discounts on Apple computers from his sister.

Goes to figure I'm a PC guy, right?
I think you are becoming famous, Mike! Just the other day I saw your photo in the Post Office. Something about passing counterfeit Best Buy coupons or some damn thing. Keep up the good work.

Congrats on the fame Mike, but this quote from your sister just takes the cake (as it were)

Quote:
"Even in July, people Google fruitcake and find me," she says.

Chris: I (better than anyone else) understand completely.

Mike, "Think Different."

I'm still confused on what this thread is about. "Free," why are you angry at fruitcake? How was your sister involved? I was talking about fruitcake the other day, and I asked everyone, to please give me their unwanted fruitcake. I love the fruitcake. All I know how to do here is to thank "Free" for the round-up. Thank you Mike's sister for the weekly round-up. Nothing for me this week. The Ted is mad at fruitcake too?

That is so sad I could almost cry. A wasted Apple discount ... that's like ... like a wasted Best Buy coupon. So sad ....

Sorry I missed all the hoopla! Congrats on your new found fame, Mike!

Hard to believe it's been five years.

Come to find out that article (no longer findable on the Albany paper's website) was picked up by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette all those many years ago.

Google is amazing.  There are many things about that article that still make me laugh today...

I missed this on its intial run.  Congrats on the article.  "Dad was just being nice"   Classic.

Holy thread bumps!

That whole experience was so surreal...

From running into my sister and the reporter at the mall to the reaction from everyone after the story ran.  Too funny.

And for the record...five years hasn't changed things.

Meanwhile, you too have become an expert on fruitcakes.

  1. Jeez... Mike, you were known as the deal guy in 2004?!?!
  2. The writer described your sister as "elfin" - classic
  3. There's no mention of her _actual_ fruitcake website's address - does it still exist and what is site?

Jonathan:  I'm in my 7th year of putting together the RoundUp.  Time flies (and they're buzzing around me!).    I'll regale you with tales sometime of how I invented the internet...

Uh oh.  Sounds like we have a closet fruitcake lover here.

It doesn't look like the site has been been kept very current, but since the subject is fruitcake maybe it's appropriate for it to have aged without being disturbed for a long while  :

Suddenly I feel old, when I started coming to HTF, you were still kinda the new guy doing the Round Up (after Dave I think).

Thanks for posting. I happened upon this thread a while back when the new forum software was having one of its search farts, but the article had already been pulled off the TU's website.

Do you still work for the Assembly? I didn't even know the Assembly had an A/V department.
