My Browser is Crashing at HTF Only

Only for about three or four days now, my browser is repeatedly crashing when loading pages at the HTF. It does not happen on most HTF pages, only occassionally, but repeatedly in a single day of browsing HTF. I never had this problem at HTF before. When it does crash, it is a severe crash that causes me to have to close all frozen IE windows, using ctrl-alt-del. Once it froze my entire system requiring a reboot using the power-on button (since Start menu also froze, and couldn't even ctrl-alt-del that time).

I have not had this problem with other web sites. I suspect (but can't be certain) that some advertising may be causing this, as it seems to crash about the time when the banner ads are loading.

I run Windows XP Home Edition "Version 2002" SP1, with all the security updates to date, except I've held off on SP2 so far.

I'm running Internet Explorer XPSP2, version 6.0. I occassionally also run Webwasher 3.3, but not always. I've experimented surfing HTF with & without Webwasher loaded, but neither way prevented crashes. I also have always used Cookie Pal (set to allow HTF cookies). Any idea what may be going on?

I wish I could say for sure. Since this is the first I have heard of this happening in the past few weeks I can only guess that it has to do with either Webwasher or Cookie Pal. Have you tried using another browser beside IE? I would try Firefox or Opera and see if you continue to have the problem with them too.

Emptying out your cache may also solve the problem.

Thanks for your replies. I'm happy to report the problem has not recurred the last two days visiting HTH. Not sure what caused (or fixed) the problem. I doubt it was the cache, as I have it set to empty upon closing the browser. Also, Cookie Pal and Web Washer (both set to allow all HTF content) appear to be innocent, as they are up and running without any freezes.

Was it freezing on the main portal page to the forum at http://www.hometheaterforum.com or the main forum page at http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/index.php?

If you have trouble with this again let me know and let me now the link to the page that is giving you trouble.

Parker,
Actually, it was freezing when linking from the latter (http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/index.php?) into some of the discussion threads, or into a discussion topic. It seemed to freeze early in the writing of the page, when the browser was trying to put up the banner ads (that's only a guess).

It hasn't happened again since my last post here though. If it recurs, I'll note the page address and provide the link for you, as you requested.
