Street Date Violation ? on Board Policy...

Hi all,
I am a new member of the forum but a long time reader.

I have a question regarding store/merchants that put out titles before the street date.
Is there a board policy that prohibits such info being posted? Such as title in question and stores in question.
And is this the correct board/thread to post such info?

Just curious because I noticed a big title streeting Tuesday being sold today. (as well as someone else posted releated info about Seinfeld in the TV forum)

Thanks for your help.

Lots of people are breaking street date on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which must be the title you're referring to. Some on-line sites have even removed the 11/23 street date.

As for board policy, that's a question for a mod, though I'm pretty sure advertising a store that is breaking street date is not allowed.

Yes, it was the new Harry Potter DVD. I spotted it at a drug store chain in Manhattan. Didn't check the price but would assume that it was list price or close to that.

It's against forum policy to list the store's name, but you can post the DVD(s) that you found early.

Please don't post the name of the stores that break street dates for new releases.

It's really worth taking the time to read the HTF Rules. They answer so many questions:

Quote:
7. . . . Under no circumstances post any information regarding movies to DVD or tape, either from a retail or wholesale online or local vendor, that are available for sale before the official street date.

Sorry. But I did not mention the store name. I thought since other people have posted about other titles breaking street dates that it might have been okay. Nobody slammed them. Again, i am sorry.

Grrrrrrrrr.

I work at a small ma-and-pa video store where we follow every law and regulation, but a large (and un-named!) food store chain routinely breaks street date on every single title they release. The result is that our business is heavily undercut by the competition, and we constantly get cross-over customers who are mad that other stores in town will rent them a copy of a movie like Harry Potter while we staunchly refuse. It actually makes them angry! Last week I had a customer offer me $100 dollars to sell him a video before street. I refused. He was bewildered. I told him to go to the local shopping center, where they would be happy to sell him a copy at the retail price.

I repeat: Grrrrrrrrrr.

Please, please, please don't buy or rent movies before their official street dates! And if you see someone breaking this important rule, please tell them that you do not support your favorite video stores breaking the law for an extra buck. You may save a few dollars, or get your favorite movie a few days early, but the real people who pay the difference are the decent, law-abiding folks who are just trying to make an honest living.

Thank you for listening to a rant!

I think that this board has that policy so that the stores won't get into trouble. Some of us do like to get our movies early. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

I don't see any harm done here if you rat them out on your own. When it has worked, the store doesn't get the releases from that studio before the release date, but after that!

Actually folks, we are on your side
with the application of this rule.

Why ruin a good thing by reporting stores
on a forum that the studios read regularly?
