Evil Dead 4 ?...NOPE Evil Dead remake

UGH. Just what I always wanted a Fake Shemp Evil Dead movie.

Raimi unveils plans for 'Evil Dead' remake

What is even sadder is that it seem that Renaissance Pictures is no more. Raimi and Tappert started that new company that put out the Grudge. To me even if Bruce will be in it, it just seems like a slap in the face to all the Evil Dead fans who have been clamoring for Evil Dead 4. I still own several versions of the film on its many releases...

What's the point?

Give us a new story. 3 times isn't a charm.
This is already being discussed in the horror discussion thread, but it doesn't bother me too much. If Evil Dead is going to be remade, I'm glad Raimi and Co are involved.

I'd prefer a new movie, but I'll take what I can get.

You know, my first response was "dumbest...idea...ever!", but after a night of cooling-down time... It's not like they're remaking Evil Dead 2, which is completely geared to Bruce Campbell's physical comedy skills. The first one was an extremely well-made spam-in-a-can movie whose basic storyline probably gets churned out ten times a year anyway.

A new The Evil Dead will likely be just another five-teenagers-go-to-the-woods-and-die movie unless it's got a director as exciting and dynamic today as Sam Raimi was twenty years ago. Today, that probably means a Japanese/Korean import, such as Hiroki Yamaguchi or (and I'm giggling as I'm typing this) Takashi Miike

If Ghost House does manage to find the next Sam Raimi (someone like Yamaguchi could fit the bill), The Evil Dead 2.0 could be a darn good idea. If not, it'll be forgotten by the time the video comes out.

Meanwhile a revolutionary invention has been announced that is being touted as something that will change the world. They call it "The Wheel"
Come on guys, this is why asian cinema is kicking you @ss's till your nose's bleed. You guys seem to have run out of ideas over there while people like Park Chan-Wook,Takashi Miike and Kim Ki-Duk leave you in the dust. Why so much emphasis on repackaging products for a mainstream audience and so little on original creativity?
Evil Dead has already been remade. It was called Evil Dead 2. NO ONE can play Ash but Campbell.

This is one of the all-time lame-ass ideas.
I don't fault the guy wanting to make a little money off his own idea, but I have a feeling that this will be in no way near the sheer gore value of Evil Dead or Evil Dead 2. And since Sam has gotten a taste from that Spideman money, can a PG-13 Evil Dead be in our future, as that would make the franchise more valuable to the Suits. Oh well, I'm still waiting for that SCREAM remake.
I just wanna know if they're going to honestly try to pass off the now-middle-aged Bruce Campbell off as a college student

Not really. The first 15 minutes of Evil Dead 2 is a retelling of the Evil Dead because of an inability to use clips from the first one. This is mentioned in one of the commentary tracks.

Eric,

It's called money. Hollywood believes there is no money to be made in creativity.

Thats why they are still living off the 30's and 80's horror icons and slashers.

And oh boy, it's not good. These movies just keep getting worse and worse. And I like horror. I liked the slashers, etc. But, damn if these movies dont suck hard nowadays.

An Evil Dead remake? Whats the point? To make an Evil Dead as gritty as the first, you ould never get away with an R. It didnt then.

I expect this to be a typical lame cash in with a hip (AKA disgusting and mind numbing) cast and lame pop culture references like everything else in the last 10 years. Any suggestions on the Rapper/Singer to be cast?

This wont be an Evil Dead you are used to. Raimi will sell out to please the MPAA as well as the studio to make money. But, if you were him, you cant really blame him. Most people are sellouts. I dont like it. Just the way it is.

Me, personally. If this was my franchise and I was already rich from Spiderman, I would hold the rights and never allow a movie again before I would let a remake happen.

Raimi says Freddy vs Jason vs Ash was a bad idea. He was probably right. But, this remake idea isnt any better IMO.

Where is this Evil Dead 4 myth that has been talked about for years? I dont care for this series anyways, but many are awaiting it.

I have hope if Raimi and Campbell are involved, and of course I'll be there on opening night, but we will see.

Raimi, Tapert, and Campbell have never really been as sentimental about the series as the fans, I think. Not that they don't appreciate the movies and how important they are to their careers, but to my knowledge I don't think any of them have ever regarded the films as something sacred and above trashy cash-ins

The impression I got is that while they might at one time have really wanted to do Evil Dead 4, they couldn't get a studio to bite and the moment passed and no one's been truly serious about getting it done for a long time. But hey, maybe the remake is actually a clever scheme to get some mainstream interest in Evil Dead movies and then swerve everyone by going into production on Evil Dead 4

Charlie Kaufman, Wes Anderson, Alejandro Inarritu, Michael Gondry, Shari Berman and Robert Pulcin, Christopher Nolan, Sofia Coppola, Cameron Crowe, Quentin Tarantino...and even Pixar. Yeah, we're running out of ideas over here in the states.

Ok i'll give you Charlie Kaufman, Wes Anderson and Sofia Coppola strait off the bat. Some of the others would have to come under a bit of scrutiny though.
Christopher Nolan poached "Insomnia" and is doing a batman movie
Cameron Crowe i would never forgive for repackaging "Open your Eyes"
QT i would argue takes plenty of ideas from others in asia and elsewhere but i guess i would give him credit for putting his own spin on it.
I don't know if you can claim Alejandro Inarritu as one of yours,we might have to go to arbitration on that one

I believe Eric was quoting a list of asian horror guys (though pigeonholing Miike as horror seems to sell him short). This is a genre where Japan/Hong Kong/Taiwan seem to be kicking America's butt right now, no matter how much cool work these other folks are producing.

Although the 3 i mentioned are known for some of there more extreme work i would not pidgeon hole any of them. They are all capable of extrordinary work in dramatic and artistic ways.Examples Park Chan-Wook;Joint Security Area, Takashi Miike; The Bird People In China, Kim Ki-Duk;Spring,Sumer,Fall,Winter and Spring
You are of course right on the horror front though, the asian market is dominating.I would be interested to know why we don't here of more young people having a crack like a young Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson. If you become obsessed with marketing and start casting only "Hot teen stars" in your movies you are surely going against the tradition of where all the great new ideas in horror have come from.

The thing that kills me about large(er) budget re-makes of these low budget films is that the rawness of the original productions was half the charm of them, the fact that the filmmakers were able to put together an enjoyable film with what little they had to work with...it was something to be admired.
Personally I find it to be a pointless act aside from a monetary standpoint...and that's the only reason I can figure these are being made.

I never would have thought Sam & Co. would do that though.
Give me Evil Dead 4 instead.
I don't understand (and i read the article twice through). So Raimi and co. are in the planning stages of Evil Dead 4 (tentative title). OK, cool

Now, it mentions Campbell and Tapert as Producers (which they were originally), therefore i assume that Bruce Campbell is back as Ash. Granted, he will be 14-years older than Ash in Army of Darkness, doesn't mean Ash can't kick ass.
I don't think people should be so shocked that ED4 turns out to be a remake, seeing as how ED2 was a remake of the first film. in that regard, this is sticking to the original formula. I can pretty safely assume that they actually have a different direction to take the movie.

Maybe i'm overly optimistic, but the Fake Shemps are good guys, who I believe, are making this film because they want to and they finally have the time to do it the way they really want.

Campbell will need to lose to weight. He look pretty well fed in his Spiderman 2 cameo.

Maybe they could write that he became manager of S Mart and got that way from such a "well paying" gig!
The name's Ash....Manager.
Campbell is NOT back as Ash. He is also one of the producers.
A non-Bruce Campbell Ash........yeah....that'll be about as good as a non-Peter Sellers Clouseau.

What a dumb idea, evil dead was only good because it was low budget.
Didn't they already make Evil Dead 4 under the name "Cabin Fever"?

See, that's just crazy talk. There have been plenty of low-budget spam-in-a-can movies that outright stank. The Evil Dead was good because, unlike a lot of low-budget horror movies that even Anchor Bay won't bother with, Sam Raimi was a singular talent and was able to make an excellent movie with the meager resources available.

The key to a good remake of The Evil Dead will be finding the next Sam Raimi - an exciting young director who can take a stock horror scenario and make it feel new and exciting again.

Of course, Ghost House will have their work cut out for them - not only don't those guys grow on trees, but he'll have to try and make the movie his own with Sam, Rob, and Bruce hanging around the set.

No. There is no mention of Evil Dead 4 in that article. This is stricly a remake of the first film.

No doubt Bruce woulld still be great as Ash, the article states however there is no word of Bruce even having a part in the flick at all.

Again its not see my earlier post above.

Fake Shemps are replacements for the originals. So this is how Raimi would want to shoot it? With no Bruce Campbell and him not directing it?
