Has this already been discussed? I searched but nothing came up. This would be nice to have on dvd.

It would be great to get it on DVD. One of my top 3 favorite shows from the 80s. I'm holding off on transferring my tapes because I think Universal will get to this at some point down the line.

Put me down for wanting this show on dvd. C'mon Universal.

What everyone else said.

Bring it on!

Another Edward Woodward fan chiming in. That show inspired me to get a Jaguar as my first car.

Just bumping to see if anything has been rumored. I just read that Mr.Woodward is in him late 70's. I would love to see him participate in a dvd release.

That's another one that I'd get if/when available.

Hello, Ed from a few miles west of Tyler (Irving, TX)

I've never owned a "Jag"

I was a big fan, and would definitely buy season 1. If I recall though, the writing really went south at some point. Which season was it?

I LOVE that Stewart Copeland soundtrack.

Great show, i'd buy it.
While I wouldnt buy it, my roommate was just going off on how she would pay ANY price to have this on disc. She really digs the show, it would seem.

Season 1 came out a few years ago.  Any word on season 2?
I really want to see the second season on DVD, but I read on possibly the IMDb a few weeks ago that music rights issues could be/are the reason why the second season hasn't come out yet. I can only remember the instrumental score in the show. Does anyone know what songs were heard in the second season of The Equalizer?

The Universal logo was shown after the end credits of The Equalizer, so I assume it was a Universal show. A suggestion for release by Madman?

There's a DVD pre-order listing on Play.com for the second season of The Equalizer, with a UK release date of Monday 26th September, 2011. There's no DVD pre-order listing up on Amazon UK and HMV.com yet though.

Am taking this with a grain of salt at the moment.

Thanks for the info.  I added this one to my DVD file for upcoming releases.  I might wait a while to see if an R1 release is announced but R2's ok for me.

I honestly didn't think any more seasons of The Equalizer would be released on Region 2. Maybe this long wait was down to clearing music?

Well this is a bit of a strange thing. Now recently Play.com had taken down their UK release date for The Equalizer: Season 2. Have checked Amazon UK (which at the time of my post before last, didn't have a DVD pre-order listing for Season 2), and they have Season 2 up for DVD pre-order. But it's not Universal Playback releasing it. Beside "Studio" instead, is Fabulous Films. They've released The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Streethawk and coming soon Tour of Duty. The UK release date is still Monday 26th September. A possible explanation for Universal Playback not releasing Season 2 is given in a pre-release review on the Amazon UK listing page for this Fabulous Films title (music clearances).

But it appears the Season 2 set will be delayed until January/February 2012, based on Fabulous Films' Facebook page.

Update on the status of Fabulous Films' second season DVD set of The Equalizer. They've posted on their Facebook page "February 2012".

Same here, if we don't hear about possible R1 S2 release plans soon.

Obviously, fingers crossed as much of the music is intact. All depends on if the second season does come out in February, but if it does I'm hoping the third season (probably my favourite out of the four) is released soon after, maybe by late Spring/early Summer (feature length season premiere with Telly Savalas guest starring, two two-parters (one with Robert Mitchum and the other with Anthony Zerbe) and the Richard Jordan era.

Was the first season Region 1 set from Universal remastered? Read on the web, that while the Region 2 set from Universal Playback had most of or all of the music intact, the Region 1 set was remastered. The thing is, most of the TV episodes of Universal TV shows I've watched on DVD so far, the print quality has been very good and didn't look like they had been remastered.

Unless they're re-submitted to the BBFC and either given the same certificate or downgraded (doubt the certificate will be upgraded), the BBFC passed some second season Equalizer episodes in 2002. Sometimes, if some episodes of a season of a TV show have already been passed by the BBFC, then the remainder of the season is submitted to the BBFC (for a future season set DVD release). Second season episodes already passed by the BBFC (in brackets, the certificate, followed by the total running time of the episode):

"Shades of Darkness" ('15' certificate - 46 minutes and 6 seconds)

"Tip on a Sure Thing" ('PG' certificate - 46 minutes and 6 seconds)

"The Cup" ('PG' certificate - 45 minutes and 46 seconds)

"Beyond Control" ('PG' certificate - 46 minutes and 7 seconds).

There were two VHS releases passed back in 1988, of two third season two-parters (likely edited together, as they were shown on separate weeks on CBS):

"Mission: McCall" ('15' certificate with a total running time of 86 minutes and 44 seconds)

and "Mystery of Manon" ('15' certificate witha total running time of 87 minutes and 37 seconds).

The BBFC added a listing to their website today for Fabulous Films' second season set of The Equalizer. Below is the link to the BBFC listing page:

The Equalizer: Season Two - BBFC listing page

The total running time for nearly every episode is around 46 minutes, with the exception of "A Place to Stay", which is towards 48 minutes long.

The second season set has a planned March 2012 release (source: Fabulous Films' Facebook page).

Thanks for the pic Richard, love the cover art!

Nice to see that this great show (one of my favourites) will see more releases in the UK.  Its not looking good for us fans here in North America, this show has been stalled since 2008 and the fact that it has now been sub-licensed out in both Region 2 & 4 does not bode well for more R1 releases- at least not from Universal.  It appears as though the only way the remaining seasons will be released here in Region 1 is if someone else picks up the rights but with the music issues this show has I am not sure if anyone would be willing to take a chance?!  The two most likely candidates to acquire the rights are VEI and Shout! Factory- I hope VEI gets the rights because with Shout! if it doesn't do well then it will wind up on their stupid select program where it will be double the price of retail and releases will take longer to come out. thumbsdown.gif
