Halo 2 HTF Clan - Page 4

I tried to get several clan games going last night, but mostly everyone online was playing in a "custom" game. I don't dig those games cuz they're weighted towards the host and they don't count towards your stats.

I'll try to set up some 8-on-8 clan matches tonight...so keep an eye out for an invite from "GoreHound2".

Announcements

-At this point everyone who asked for an invite should have received one. If you have sent me your tag and you are still not on the list e-mail me. From this point forward if you want to be added to the clean you MUST E-mail me at Mpalmieri1203@optonline.net with TAG in the subject. Do not post your tag in the forum I might not read it.

- We have two priorities right now. The first is to start logging some clan matches so are stats and level as a clan go up. Some people seemed to be confused by this. You must create a party together and then depending upon how many people you have you can choose from ÒMinor Clan MatchÓ or ÒMajor Clan MatchÓ. When I looked at the record last night we were still 1-8...hehe. Our second priority is to get some place where information such as this can be posted. I have spoken with some other clan members and we agree that the site will be primarily text based. We are looking for any available space for such a site and anyone willing to work on it. Some of the main things that will be posted are news, schedules and links to our stats on bungie.net. If you could get a sticky for this thread at the top of the forum that would be excellent!

- If you have any friends that are interested in the clan send an invite. I donÕt think we will get all 99 people from just the HTF, although that would be great.

- Link your gamertag to bungie.net! This is a great way to check out your stats and the stats of the clan! Also check out the game viewer feature this is really awesome!

- Remember just HAVE FUN.

News

- We have decided on ONE Clan. If you guys want to branch off that is fine by me. I personally feel one clan is all that is necessary. More people makes us a bigger force to be reckoned with. If we want to meet at different times that is cool. Considering if were playing clan matches we have to break up into groups of 8 anyhow.

- IÕm proud to announce the Home Theater Forums first win against a bunch of nihilists. hehe. The win occurred during an intense game of team ball on Thursday morning. Many thanks to The Gnat and Gorehound!

- IÕm going to set a tentative official meeting time for clan members for this Sunday. This will be a time for those who havenÕt played yet to know when some members will definitely be on.

- I would like to arrange an official grand opening of sorts for next weekend when we are hopefully more organized.

- Once again I am an extremely busy person. I teach Mon.-Fri. 8-4 and I also attend graduate classes. This makes it rather difficult to be the most involved leader. If you guys like the level of involvement of displayed so far. If not, I am definitely willing to hand over leadership to another one of you. I am also more than willing to have a few more people at my level. If you would either like to lead or co-lead. Drop me a line and we will set it up!

- I plan on making announcements like this on at least a weekly basis. If you would like to contribute anything AT ALL E-Mail me with ANNOUNCEMENT in the tag. Share any exciting tales of battle or perhaps stupidity.

- Playing games with clan members DOES speed up the process of finding a game. If you are matched with clan members start playing CLAN MATCHES and have fun! Some people are really really good at this and it has only been out for 3 days!!

This Weeks Schedule

Sunday 11/13 2pm- Unofficial Meeting

Next Weekend 11/19- Official Grand Opening!!!

Feel free to contact the head of the clan (Nightwing) if you want to get some competitive games going!

Alright. Total loser here. Have the game. Have a wireless high speed connection in my home. But need to get Live, hooked up, and all that jazz.

Any savvy geniuses want to tell me what I need to make this go down. Just beat SP, and it's not enough. Need more. Also, from there, I'll be begging for help into the shallow end just to get my footing, before I go get wasted by the people with real experience.

Feel free to PM me with advice...I need it. Hopefully making the purchase this weekend, and getting setup next week (10 month old at home, plus a bridal shower makes it tough for this weekend ).

Thanks in advance

Take care,
Chuck

Chuck! Look forward to seein you on there

You will need a router if you don't have one already to split the connection for your PC and XBox. Make sure you get one that is Xbox Live compatible. Here is a list:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/conn...uterlanding.htm

Then aside from a couple extra CAT5 network cables (or that Xbox Wireless Network adapter if you want to stay totally wireless) that is all you need along with the XBLive starter kit which comes with the headset and 3 or 12 months of service depending on what one you buy.

As for playing the game, if you beat single player on Normal mode or higher I don't think you will have much trouble getting into it. Your toughest thing will probably be learning all the rules for the multiplayer modes which are outlined in the manual. If you beat it on easy, play a few missions on Normal or Heroic and see how you do.

edit: whats with the forum adding a bajillion "br" tags to the posts lately?

Let me ask a general XBox Live newbie question on invites, do I need Halo 2 in to get invites (or whatever game) or can Scott invite me into a Halo 2 game while I'm logged in on Live playing Star Wars?

Chuck, since you say "wireless high speed connection" I assume (unlike Kami ) that you have the router and are now ready to really suffer by adding yet another incompatible wireless device to your system.

I'll warn you on my experience that I bought the official XBox wireless device, which is just a standard wireless box that comes with XBox running setup software. I thought there was more to this whole deal than just sticking a CAT-5 from the XB into my router or any old wireless receiver. Doesn't appear that this is so, barring any incompatibility issues that might show up on lists of good hardware.

Anyway, the XB device (the MN 470 or 740 or whatever) doesn't do WPA!!! I wish I'd known beforehand. I would recommend looking for a wireless rec that will support WPA so that you can keep your system safer.

I did get the XB device and unfortunately it was quite awhile before I found out that it needed to be updated with new firmware before it would work with a hidden SSID, another critical option for wireless protection.

I also had to piss around with the WEP and the MAC filter. I never got 64 bit working and it took some time to get 128 bit going. The MAC filter problem came from the fact that both the device AND the XBox seem to send out their MAC addresses during connection, so both had to be in my filter list. The XBox does let you put in a custom MAC address for what its worth, but it doesn't seem like the device does.

So with that in mind I'd strongly suggest looking into other wireless receivers that have WPA and detailed interfaces. AFAIK any device that then passes on regular CAT-5 will be just fine with the XB, no special "official" device needed.

You might still run into the dual MAC address thing too and such a setup will probably keep you from tweeking your wireless rec with the XB itself (not that you can do much beyond changing SSID and WEP), but I wouldn't consider that a problem at all.

I got so fed up trying to distinguish between wireless connection problems and XB Live ping issues that for now I'm sticking with a hardwired solution on the crappy TV. Once I get comfortable with what is typical performance I'll move back to my wireless situation (made 3 times worse by my wife's shitty HP, my Dell works just great with all of this).

BTW, okay, I'll go get Halo 2 right away just because of you guys. Otherwise I'd just wait till I finished with GTA:SA and spent more time with the 2 ESPN games (which are pretty solid). Oh, and 13 for the PS2 also. Oh, and Prince of Persia.

When did my freaking game pile start to look like my DVD pile?

If the game you are playing is Live Aware you can receive messages while playing, but not all games are.

You can get an invite to play any online game while you are logged into another. If you are say playing Top Spin or Star Wars Battlefield online, your friends can look in the Xbox dash or in Halo 2's friend list and see you playing that game. They can then send you can invite to join them in Halo 2. All you need to do is accept the invite and put in the Halo 2 disc and away you go.

As mentioned above, there are also certain single player games like Prince of Persia and Chronicles of Riddick on the Xbox that are "Live Aware" which means you can receive invites to play online game while you work your way through the game. Hope that clears things up for you.

I'd like a spot saved for me! Just give me a few days.

Kami,
Beat it on Normal (please!). I'll try Heroic later (I did beat Halo on Heroic, and I beat the level 10 on Legendary). So as long as I don't get dusted all the time, I look forward to it.

Mike Sileck is helping me out. I have a modem and a router, but I can use a cable from the modem if my router screws me. I don't know squat about this (someone hooked it up for me), but to play Halo online, I am willing to learn

After last night, we're probably 1-25. Man, we were getting smoked. We had six on our team last night and played alot of clan matches vs. 6/7-person teams. The skill levels of the teams we played were very deceiving. They were all good...individually. (Or we're just unbelievably BAD!!!) Depending on the size of the group that is going to play clan matches, I think that we need about half (either 3 or 4) skilled players on the team/session so that we can compete against these other teams. Last night, we'd play level 2 teams, but when you look at their individual ranks, they're all level 5, 6, 7, 8, and even 9s.

We need a team training session.

I kept having the same issue last night. I was getting invites from you guys but when I would go to join a message would come up to the effect of "You cannot join the game because we are having network difficulties. Sorry!"

Did anyone else see this?

what's the deal with inviting HTF outsider's into our clan? I have a friend who just got Live and is a great player, he heard about our clan and would like to join since he's heard about previous HTF Live games and some of the fun people on this board. Are we allowed to invite HTF outsiders or are we going to keep it HTF members only? Thanks!

invite sent and I believe he's accepted. I wouldn't say he's the best Halo player of all time but he's decent and can certainly defend himself.

I know the feeling, I have the same problem. Practice makes perfect though so keep on trying.
The problem we've found (HTF2 clan) with the clan system, at least in the early stages of Halo2, is this:

When you first start a clan, you're rated 1. Doesn't matter how good your members are. So in clan matches we keep meeting up with clans rated 1 or 2 (we're a 2) and get our butts whooped. Then we look at "recent players" list, which shows the individual ratings of people we recently played, and the individual members of a 1 or 2 rated clan end up being rated 5-9! So their clan is still rated low, because they formed it only recently, but no one on their party is below a 5, and most were between 6-9 (I think one guy was a 10).

Hopefully those guys will rip through clans and get properly ranked so the next time we all meet up, we'll be matched against more appropriate oppponents.
Just gotta say that I had a blast yesterday with the group of 16 I was playing with from the HTF2 crew. The 4 teams of 4 handguns & pistols round was truly one of my favorite Multiplayer experiences EVER...

- especially a skirmish where two of us ran out of ammo at the same time and beat each other to death with the butts of our guns.

My wife was thouroughly unimpressed as I announced I'd just beaten a guy to death by hand.
