Re: Cool Hand Luke... Special Edition ?
Been catching up on this thread. "...Luke" is one of my all-time favorites and I agree with what's mentioned here, imo, it's Newman's defining role. As much as I liked P.N. in The Sting and Butch Cassidy, I thought he outperformed both roles in "...Luke". And, talk about an awesome cast! George Kennedy, JD Canon, Lou Antonio, Strother Martin, Morgan Woodward ("don't mess with the man with no eyes"), Dennis Hopper, Wayne Rogers....remember Joe Don Baker in a minor role?
Most remember this film for that famous line that Mike Frezon used so well in this thread

, but I like the scene where Strother Martin gives the "new guy" talk in front of the warden's house:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)(Strother Martin as the Warden): 2 years? That ain't much....we got one that's doin' a 20-spot....we got one that's doin' all of 'em.....we got all kinds, and you gonna fit in real good". You won't need no third set (leg-irons), 'cause we gonna get your mind right....AND I MEAN, RIGHT!"
Later, after Luke wins the "egg-eating" bet (JD Canon as "Society" says)...
"No one can eat 50 eggs". Luke just lays on that table and smiles that classic "Luke" smile

Beth, I read your posts and this one was my Dad's favorite as well. If you've not yet seen it, you're in for a great DVD ride

I pulled out my old '97 snap-case version, and it says on the back cover "enhanced for 16:9 WS TVs". I guess, if the original release is anamorphic (help me out here, gurus, if I'm wrong here

), I've not decided to double-dip for the extras. I would d/d if the '97 release wasn't an anomorphic version.
