Hellboy Director's Cut.... - Page 2

Anybody else getting 4 small red dots popping up in the middle of their screen when watching the feature presentation on this collectors edition? I just finished the movie & they appeared about 10 times during the entire feature & each time they stayed on the screen for about 15 seconds.

I was watching on a Samsung 5085 over DVI from a Bravo D1

I rented this movie a while back and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. When I saw the D.C. at Future Shop this week I caved and bought it as it is such a nice package (I expect one of these - - from my wife on this count). Very cool with the three slim cases inside. One note, however, to anyone purchasing at a retail store. Check the spines of the discs to make sure they are labelled 1, 2, and 3. Strangely I noticed one set on the rack with 1, 2, and... 2. I didn't bother looking through the whole stack to see if there were others but I thought it kind of strange.

Any reason at all to talk me out of it and into the 2 disk instead knowing I liked the movie??

Personally, I'm dismayed that the cartoons from the 2-disc set were dropped. What's up with that? I was on the fence about buying Hellboy, but the cartoons made up my mind. I waited and bought the Director's Cut, only to find out the cartoons aren't there.

Yes, I got this too. I'm watching on a Sony 50" LCD with a Momitsu v880 over DVI. AT least it's not my TV, but I'd like to know what they were. I wondered if it was something to do with the branching comic features...

And how many easter eggs are there?

Mark, there is an easter egg hidden on the main menu of disc one, go left from the introduction. I remember there are at least 2-3 easter eggs hidden among the special features on disc two. I didn't spot any easter eggs on disc three.

Are they worth seeking out?

Picked this up yesterday. Haven't watched it yet but just wanted to mention that for the first time I really dig the cover art on the box and the individual disc cases. Just cool all the way around.

For some reason this artwork just totally clicks with me.

Well done Columbia!!

It was only $19.96 at BB

Where's that? Best Buy here is selling it for $23.

Too bad I didn't like Underworld that much. . .BB is offering $10 off if you get the DCs of Hellboy and Underworld together.

We have a comparison review of the Hellboy Director's Cut and Hellboy Theatrical Cut DVDs here.

quote:

Snippet:

Hellboy is another extremely well made comic book adaptation, and the latest in a long line that show Hollywood seems to be finally willing to spend the right kind of money, get the right teams together, and just let them get on with their jobs with minimal interference. Because of this, and despite the massive budget and cutting edge effects, Hellboy really does seem like a personal project for all involved. The constant involvement of Mike Mignola in the whole process, along with Ron Perlman in a career defining role, has allowed del Toro to bring his long-cherished dream project to the screen.

The new Director's Cut release improves the film greatly. While not altering its tone or structure in any grand way, this new version manages, with just a few small additions, to increase our understanding of the characters, making it a definite cut above many comic book adaptations.

Any difference in PQ compared to the 2 disc release? I thought the first release looked over filtered.

Where's the Proof of Purchase tab on the Director's Cut. Need it for the $5 mail-in rebate if you also bought the 2 disc.

That happened to me after I brought it back the first time (which was because of disc 2 being scratched up).

Scott-that had me stumped, too,

you have to open the box from the back-pull out the flap-the proof of purchase in one of the smaller folding tabs.

Cut the LEAST amount off possible, otherwise the flap will not stay in at the top when you reassemble.

Re: Hellboy Director's Cut....

I was in Wal-Mart yesterday and they are now selling this set for only 9 bucks. That is a great deal for anyone who had not picked it up yet. It was a nice surprise as I had wanted this for a while.

Re: Hellboy Director's Cut....

I wrote the comparison review that Chris Marin linked to earlier in the thread, and I've since re-published it here.

Hope it's of some use for anyone interested in this release
