and now the Darko era begins, mark my words.

We're in trouble, then.

If Larry Brown's not back, I would like to see Flip Saunders as the new coach. He seems to be the best fit out of the coaches available.

I don't buy that Scott. I by no means am saying he is going to be a star, but when he started the last couple games of the season, there was lots of promise there. The kid needs to learn how to play inside, considering all he did in Serbia was play outside, and he has shown that he can be pretty quick on the offensive end. Keep in mind, he just turned twenty a couple days ago, and we scream for more depth from the Pistons, well he could provide that. Think about last night, what if he could have stepped in and gave 10 productive minutes, that would have been a huge help, instead they had to run three guards, with Tayshaun at the power forward spot, thats no good.

As far as the Pistons bench is concerned, look for Hunter and Cambell to retire and for Arroyo to get more minutes next year. McDyess was a great signing and he is a valuable asset. He knows his role and that he won't be the same player he once was, so that is a great fit, but you can't run 7 man rotation all year, it just takes to much of a toll on the team.

I firmly believe that Indy will surplant Miami as the other major contender in the East, considering the Heat have major cap issues, and quite frankly are older or just not that good outside of Shaq and Wade.

GO LIONS see most you you in the NFL thread.

I also hope that Arroyo gets more minutes. Larry didn't play him because he's not a good defender, but hopefully he can get more into the flow on D with more playing time. And he can really make some things happen on offense, which more often than not was the real problem for the Pistons in their losses, long stretches with no ability to score.
He certainly killed their momentum.

Larry should've kept McDyess in there w/ 4 fouls. He was scoring. Tayshaun couldn't do crap against Duncan. Hell, I would've let Elden play more than a few seconds if he could body up on Duncan. They should've kept Delfino on the roster. Maybe they could've used him.

Hey, there is going to be hockey too. Lots of free agents will make for an interesting flurry of movement once the CBA is settled in a few weeks.

I thought Brown should have put Elden Campbell in at that point if he wanted to steal a few minutes with Rasheed and McDyess on the bench in foul trouble. There were 6 fouls that Campbell could have layed on Duncan without any harm.

As for Arroyo, I was not very impressed with his game this year and can see why the Pistons got him so cheap. He's a liability on defense and cannot shoot. He certainly did not replace what they lost in Mike James from last season.

Carlos Delfino will get a chance next year to show what he can do. He will have to prove to everyone that he's tough enough to play in the NBA, though. I think the team lost a lot of faith in him when he took so long returning from minor knee surgery. That was the reason, IMO, that Dupree was on the playoff roster instead of Delfino.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Hunter return for another season. He seems to be enjoying his role, and the Pistons can use his experience and defensive presence off the bench. He's only 34 years old.

Darko will get more minutes next season (especially if Larry Brown leaves) with Campbell retired, but do not expect to see him out there a lot. He'll still be the 4th big man behind the Wallaces and McDyess (who was a brilliant signing). That does not allow for a lot of minutes.

I do have faith that Dumars will fill in some of the holes on the bench. He's one of the best front office guys in the league, and has done an incredible job putting this team together.

The only reason the Spurs win anything is because those conspiratorial referees let the Spurs be thugs, which Spurs fans acutally think passes for good defense. If the fouls were actually called, the spurs wouldn't win any game that wasn't against the Atlanta Hawks.

Well the game is being called very tightly in the first half which I think benefits the Spurs for now. So nervous...
Did you two watch the same game?

Yeah, I think so, I meant the Pistons were being called tightly in the first half, not evenly.
So the reason the Pistons lost was because they were called tightly and the Spurs were allowed to be thugs.

Not at all what I observed, nor most others.

The first half was called tightly and it helped get the Pistons in foul trouble, although I would also observe that Manu and Chauncy both sat down with two fouls at pretty much the same time in the half.

And that with all of the fouls called on the Pistons early, the game was tied with 12 minutes left.

They have no one to balme but themselves for not stepping up during the final period.

Give some credit to Tim Duncan for stepping up at the end. He played like he was paid to and expected to play.

Lew, I don't think Brandon was agreeing with George. Seems to me that Brandon and I both agree that the game was called tightly, as you say as well, not that "the Spurs were allowed to be thugs" as George said. I pretty much agree with the rest of your observations, Lew.
My point was that George and Brandon seemed to have watched two different games (from the officiating standpoint).

Since the Pistons are my second team (after Dallas), I was disappointed with the outcome. But the win by the Spurs was well deserved and well earned.

Can't believe I'm making an appearance in this thread. It's just not my thing....but I have to give recognition to the Spur's fans. I am a Spur's fan fan.
For the third time in 7 years the fans have celebrated a national championship without rioting, looting or burning.
They just dance and party.
Ill be at the parade tomorrow night dancing and partying

Isn't it ironic that the Laker fan in this thread is whining about the officiating, while we Piston fans are acknowledging that the Spurs played better down the stretch and deserved to win?

Well said Scott

However id also like to add that Pistons also played great.

Rasheed and Hamilton seemed to knock down just about every ball, i loved hating those guys!!

But the truth is that they are incredibly talented players.

And THANK GOD Ben tamed that wild ass hair, he looked like a damn hoodlum in the other games.

I can't help wondering if the Pistons lost because he didn't have his hair out. It just seems like they play better when his hair is fully unleashed

The Colts OTOH, Have major defensive issues and need to overhaul it. While they have Dwight Freeney, he is pretty much it IMHO. They hit a brick wall when they face the best Defensive teams in the AFC.
It's called 12-4 and the only reason you don't go to the Super Bowl is because you have to play the team that goes on to win it at their stadium.

How either of the teams win is not the point, its that both are just shy of being the best team in the NFL.

Defensive problems? Tell that to Pittsburgh or Philly who both gave up MORE POINTS to New England than Indy did. Indy was losing 6-3 at the half. That's not defense hurting you.

I'm not saying the DEF is great, just that the Colts are one of the top clubs in the NFL. The Eagles haven't won a SB lately either, but both clubs are close...just like the Pacers. That's the comparison.

I think that this is what happens when you multi-task in the wee hours of the moring Seth.

At least you did get a mention of an NBA team in your post, even if somewhat by-the-way.

This is the NBA thread.

Cavs hire Ferry as GM. This means Larry Brown will not be going to Cleveland after all. Odds are still that he will not be back with the Pistons next season, either.
Gentlemen, I believe you will find that I actually quoted THIS thread before responding.

Please try and keep up with the discussion.
(hint - it was a discussion about some Pacers fans wanting to rebuild even though the team was top tier)

Meanwhile the Larry Brown thing is all over the place. Prez is still technically available to him. Then you have talk of burned bridges in Detroit with the owner (Marc Stein says). You have maybe the Knicks coaching spot (his dream job apparently). None of it matters if the Mayo doesn't give him the okay. And I don't think anyone really knows just exactly what the health problem is since he was on record saying it wasn't his earlier health issue.

Pacers draft - lots of Villinueve buzz lately for some reason, but its only been going the last few days. Not to mention that locally he has NEVER been mentioned. So I think it could be a bluff. Then again it could be tied into the Pacers moving Bender and the 17 to the Lakers for their pick and Slava which remains an ongoing and slightly changing rumor.

Bird is notorious for smoke screens so its hard to take any pre-draft pick buzz too seriously.

Then there is the Hughes to DET buzz which seems shakey as well and lots of general discussion about where Ray Allen or Mike Redd might go. I've even heard talk of the Pacers going for Jay Williams though I'd guess many teams might be interested.

Brown is nuts if he takes the Knicks job while Isiah's there. I loved Thomas as a player, but he couldn't manage a Girl Scout cookie sale, let alone an NBA franchise.
My gut says that Brown stays in Detroit. He really has it good there.

Draft is tonight! Not sure how it will go. It's not in HD though
post #537 of 555
I haven't been in here in awhile, but I tip my hat to the Spurs they are the NBA champions and they earned it.

I didn't watch much of the series at all, maybe just a few minutes of game 3 was all, I had other commitments that kept me from watching any of it.

The draft is tonight and the Lakers pick 10th and I don't know what they'll do, but the early money is on them screwing it up, I guess it all depends on who GM Bryant is willing to put up with.
Did anyone else watching the draft get a look at Deron Williams' girlfriend? Whoa! Unbelievably hot.

Raptors selecting Villanueva is pretty mysterious. None of the ESPN analysts had any explanation for it.
ANDREW BYNUM!! The kid will be 17 on opening day!! I bet Phil is loving that!

Wow, that is a real reach.

Best picks so far: Hornets with Paul at #4 and May at #13 for the Hornets.

Worst: Lakers with Bynum at #10 and Villanueva #7.

Oh, BTW, congrats Spurs.

My personal, very humble opinion, May is a tweener that is another Robert Traylor who will have a hard time playing in this league, to slow for a small, to small for a good power. Like I said, MHO.
