Advertisments in Thread? - Page 6

"NO" vote on intellitext ads

While I understand the need to generate ad revenue, I personally find the "intellitext" method uselessly random and intrusive when displayed in the body of a thread posting. It's most annoying when a relevent and purposefully included hyperlink is lost in a field of automatically generated, irrelevent ad links. Is there any way to keep this garbage out of the actual posts?

Tobias:

You shouldn't being seeing any of the IntelliTxt ads on the forum.

Linda:

I have added text ads on the forum. Are you seeing those?

First of all, I missed the old thread... no one had posted to it in days. Sorry for starting a new one. And I did see ads in my post just yesterday, three of 'em! Random, irrelevent, hyperlinked text ads. Reading back over the thread I see my specific concerns have been brought up previously, but I still stand by my complaint. I posted immediately after I noticed them. Are we calling these something else now?

By the way, is the fact that I now see a slightly modified colour scheme and a button for some ICQ programme in my User Control Panel, and a new sort of meu bar on the splash page, a result of recent modifications, or do I have a security problem?

Oh, and I'm still reading about when I last "vistited"

Your confession above is common. People skip
the primary home page to get to the forum and by
doing that HTF loses ad revenue.

Wow, I didn't realize that. I've been doing the same thing.

Home page now bookmarked. Will navigate from there from now on.

Thank You Jay....and everyone else that
visits the home page first prior to our forum.

...although I must say the "jump to" pulldown is very well hidden on the home page, nestled between three windows halfway down the page.

That is what kills us the most. The front page
is the most important place you should visit if not
for just a few seconds before clicking into the forum.
That is where most of our ad revenue is generated from.

A question: does just visiting the splash page before trekking around the forum generate revenue...or does one have to click on the banner ads on the splash page to generate the revenue?

I'm sorry, but that's something I haven't been able to determine from the discussion. If the former is true, I don't know why more forum members wouldn't be happy to accomodate you on that.

Mike:

The more people that visit the main portal page to the forum the more impressions that page gets. The more impressions that page gets the more we make.

Christopher:

The User Control Panel has a new button that you can use to get a mini popup that allows you to use your ICQ account without having to open up an ICQ program. Then menu bar on the portal page is new too. So you don't have a security problem.

Jay:

The jumpto pull down menu is in the left hand column but you can always click on the forum logo or on one of the menu options just below it in the blue toolbar to go to the main forum page.

Parker: Thanks! Now that I understand that I will adjust my HTF habits to include a start at the portal page.

I don't know if there are others like me who thought you wanted us to go there to click on ads to generate revenue...but I bet there are many who would do what I'm doing since its only a minor modification of habit.

I never got your email for some reason. If it was to say that you see the text ads now great.

Mike:

While we definitely want people to click on the banner ads to visit our sponsors the main portal page is also driven by the number of image impressions that that page has. If people skip over it those numbers are down. A simple change in the start page for members when they access the forum will increase the revenues that we generate from those vendors.

Thanks for asking about it and hopefully others will follow your lead.

You see, I thought I had been following this discussion fairly closely...but it wasn't until recently that I figured out that I might be able to help simply by visiting the portal page.

I would think others would follow my lead...as long as they knew that too.

I've already visited the portal page at least 8 times today...which never would have happened otherwise.

Parker:

I did a direct reply to the e-mail I received from you. I'll attempt to send it again. (JPG screenshot attachment, if that's OK. If you have filters in place, that might be why the first one never came through.)

The gist:

Yes, I can indeed see the text ads. And, I still do NOT see the graphic ads... I see the Google ads and the texts, but no banners or graphics.

Good work on getting the texts added!

These intellitext ads just started showing up here, and my principle gripe with them is that, aside from being pretty irrelevant, they force the page to reload at least twice.

Frankly, I'd rather subscribe to HTF and get rid of the ads, as I do with HBO, but...it's your forum.

My feeling exactly.

Jeff and JEff:

Are you still seeing the Intellitxt ads when you are logged in?
