I used to love this show - it left me with many fond memories. Always very interesting.

I was wondering if anyone had heard of this one coming to DVD any time soon. It would be great to see them again and to have an update to some of the stories (whether they were debunked - or bunked..)

I would buy it in a heartbeat....gotta love that cheesy yet still fairly creepy late 70's synth music.

I'd love to see this on DVD as well. I'd certainly pick it up.

I remember the episode that covered the curse of King Tut scaring the heck out of me as a kid. It didn't help that around that same time I had seen the "Treasures of King Tut" exhibit at a museum in LA. I figured I'd have an angry mummy after me for that one thanks to that episode of In Search of.

Some internet snooping showed me that a few of the episodes were re-issued on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2002. And they re-run them in marathon format every two months, or so.

So, set the ol' TiVo for November 24th, 8AM to 4PM.

Beware that they've been repackaged with a replacement opening credit sequence. Redone theme on a synth.

I would also love to see this show. The episode about "The Amityville House" remains one of the most terrifying 30 minutes of television ever made.

I would also love to see on DVD the series Arthur C. Clarke's Mysterious World, which also did episodes on Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, UFOs, etc.

Why do they always have to "update" things like that.


I remember this show being aired on Sundays - and being creeped and spooked out most of the time - just in time to go to Church Sunday night.

I would still love to see this whole series on DVD. It was very well done, and the music was so creepy to a boy in his early teens, which I was at the time.

I've told this story on here before, but just a few years ago I was watching a rerun of an Abominable Snowman episode on the show. I had all the lights off. This mountain climber thinks he hears something, and looks out at the snowfield. It's twilight, very dimly lit. He can't see anything -- it's just him, his tent, and a big boulder nearby. Suddenly the boulder stands up, not 20 feet away, and the music goes, "Bwwweeeeemmmmb!" I about jumped out of my skin. And that was when I was in my late 30s.

This is pure speculation on my part, but perhaps one stumbling block could be that a great deal of the information in the series is woefully out of date. Just as one example, the crystal skull was later revealed to be a hoax. That renders an entire episode apocryphal. And the thing is in the original credit sequence, to boot.

I personally don't think that should be a reason to prevent its release, but I can imagine there being those who think otherwise.

The smart thing to do would be to present the series as-is and then make new featurettes for every episode with updated info. Hey, maybe even drag Nimoy back in!

I'm pretty sure the "Bigfoot" film has been debunked recently. I read that the sons of the guy running around in the Bigfoot costume finally fessed up. Actually, I think everything on that whole series has been debunked since the 70s.

Not that I am a bigfoot fanatic(just slightly interested) but the "patterson" film(one you are thinking about) has not been debunked. There have been a few stories where the son of one of the most famous track collectors(wallace???) said his dad was the one making tracks in the bluff creek area of california(roughly same area where patterson film was shot) and also a story that film director John Landis thought that famous FX artist John Chambers(Planet of the Apes) did the costume for the patterson film, but chambers on his death bed denied it.

well enough about that...

My favorite episode was the one dealing with ghosts. They show a recreation from inside some manor in england with a spectre in a young girls closet. I was just about pissed my pants when I saw that one as a young kid and could not go to sleep for quite a while.

Bootleg collections of the show go for crazy money on eBay (someone paid $212 for the complete series recently), so you'd have to think someone would release these, assuming there aren't any rights issues. I'd buy it, regardless of whether the material is bogus or not.

Given Unsolved Mysteries has had DVD releases, I would think In Search Of... could be done. I'd love to see it too. I remember having the heck scared out of me by the Big Foot episode too.

I saw a few on TV not that many years ago. Had new opening credits, and the Nimoy host part was gone. However it was still his narration.

There is also an ISO episode focusing on Sainte Germaine which heavily focuses on a woman who claimed to be his re-encarnation which lead a cult on a survivalist mission. I haven't tracked her in the last five years, but she was leading a heavily armed survivalist group when I did go looking into her in approximately 2000.

If I were the rights holders to this property I would be scared of some of the people that appeared within the... shall we say... broadly accepting 1970s view of religion. I'm not entirely suggesting that this is the reason it's not coming out, but to me it's a can of worms that I'd be nervous of touching.

Oh yeah, I remember that one!

Well, I would like to think that most people (MOST) who watch ISO accept it as pure marzipan.

In English, we're lying our tails off for your entertainment. Check out Nimoy's disclaimer at the beginning of each episode if you doubt me.

Of course, probably not enough to satisfy some. *shrugs* Love to see it make a come back, but we'll see.

Universal owns the rights to this series. I really would love to see these again uncut(opposed to the syndicated eps that were played on the History channel from 2000-2001). A bit of a long shot, but Nimoy is in the next Star Trek film due out next year. Maybe Universal will realize that Nimoy(along with Trek, and the huge fanbase for ISO) is money in the bank if they decide to release it.

In Search of..is one of the best shows ever created. And though a few of the major episode themes have since been solved(location of the Titantic), most of it is still very much fascinating. If it ever gets a dvd release, I'd buy it on the day of it's release. Heck, I'd buy 2 copies, and give one to a friend.

Why hasn't anyone considered doing this on dvd? I'm sure Universal would license it out in a heartbeat.
Also, how cool would it be to hear that Moog synth soundtrack in 5.1?
Truly baffling that it hasn't at least had a best of release on dvd

The discovery of a "bigfoot" corpse last week made me think about this show again. While season sets would be great, there are several episodes that would probably sell well as "best of" collections.

I saw this show again, a few years back. It was on Discovery, or TLC. Anyway, they tried to make it look like a new show. They had to go and give it a new opening title sequence and commercial bumpers. To who ever owns this show, its OLD. A forty year old Leonard Nimoy gives that away. No need to fix it up, just give it to us in its 70s glory!

It could be a licensing issue for the photos and clips used in the show. They might just have broadcast rights and would have to go back to the various folks and redeal.

Going thru some old books I had lying around and found the book based on this movie/documentary with all the stories from the film.

Would like to get that along with "In Search Of"
