Austin HTF Poker Thread - Page 4

Hank, put me in the maybe column as well. I'm a friend of Jeff's (well, also a lurker here in the HTF in general).

If Jeff attends, I will be tagging along with him.
You can move me and Hugh into "Confirmed", as I am now submitting my fully-fledged RSVP.
Hugh, welcome.
Sweet fresh meat!
Oh wait the new guy somehow always does well at our games.

Hey Nils maybe we could borrow your friend's (David?) table, as it sat up to ten didn't it? Or was I just completely zoned out.

You are correct that it was David Hoffman's table, but actually I had never met him until that night. It was my understanding that he and Hank knew each other from online and Hank passed on the invite to David.

I think it would be great to have him bring the table, otherwise I can bring my fold up table and top and we can combine the two tables to make one large table. To visually understand what I'm talking about look at the following pic:

With that arrangement you play the five outside table positions on each table and leave the three inside slots empty. Thus you end up with a 10 person table. One catch might be the height of each table, but I'm sure we can resolve that should that be the case. It's not ideal, but it can work. In fact if the tables are not the same height that might be better as we can then overlap the two short ends to make a wider center area.

Or we can even just play two seperate games? I'd prefer one game, but at least its an option.

Alrighty then, here's the status

Confirmed:
Bogey
Laurie
Colton
Big Dawg
Tubes
Doc
Raelene
Jeff M.
Hugh

Maybe:
Mark H.

It was my understanding that he and Hank knew each other from online and Hank passed on the invite to David.

That's news to me Nils. I would be happy for David to attend next time, but I think we've got enough participants so far. I usually like to have 8 to 10 and that's only if a couple of people are content with swapping out, which I know most don't like to do.
I'm glad to see that you've got enough people for the game on Friday since I can't make it anyways. It wouldn't have been a problem to bring the table but with any more than 8 people it can get cramped.

To avoid any HTF Veterans For Truth disputes , I only knew Hank through a couple of emails and a short demo of his Tempest sub. I learned of the poker game at Nils' house when I emailed Nils some advice on building his own poker table. Which reminds me, if anyone is interested in building a full table or a simple "table topper" style, send me a PM and I can give you some tips on making one. They are quite simple and inexpensive and if you don't include the padded rail you can build them in an hour or so.
David, I'm thinking of building one like yours, and if others here want to, I'd offer to cut the wood and we could do a DIY Saturday table-building in the future, with you guiding us. Whaddya say, folks?

UPDATE: Colton just cancelled. Here's the lineup:

Confirmed:
Bogey
Laurie
Big Dawg
Tubes
Doc
Raelene
Jeff M.
Hugh

Maybe:
Mark H.

Sounds good to me. I can bring my compressor and pneumatic stapler to help attach the fabric. It takes a lot of staples and a power stapler is key. A full size table with legs and a padded rail will probably take a few hours to build, but if we build more than one of the same size it should go quickly.
Thanks David. Do you have a dimensioned drawing and materials list that I could study? I have a compressor and brad nailer, so if you'd furnish your stapler, we'll be in business. If we get more than a couple, it would be a great group project. I would guess myslf, Nils, Doc and Tubes would be candidates. Maybe Jeff M and Steve S also.
Sorry Hank, I don't have any dimensioned drawings. I just made a few quick sketches and started cutting. It's pretty straight forward. Luckily, a poker table fits within the size constraints of a sheet of plywood and regular fabric. There are a couple websites that I looked at to get the basic concept from but I changed things slightly. I tried to include them but since I'm too new here it won't let me. I'll send them to you in an email and maybe you can post them.

The basic materials are a sheet each of 3/4" and 1/2" shop grade plywood; 3 yards each of velveteen, 3/16" Volara foam, and "Whisper" Vinyl; one sheet of 1" high density foam for the rail; and folding legs from a banquet table. Then there's the misc. things like screws, Super 77, staples, etc. The velveteen, vinyl, and rail foam are all from Joann's and since I signed up for their emails I get 40% coupons a couple of times a month.
I don't have any room to store a poker table, so I won't be making one but if it happens I may come out just to watch and learn for in the future.
Time for final plans. First, here's the list of suspects:

Confirmed:
Bogey
Laurie
Big Dawg (Linda and the kids will be here for dinner)
Tubes
Doc
Raelene
Jeff M.
Hugh

Maybe:
Mark H.

BTW, a high level source tells me that Big Dawg has a new Panasonic 700 projector on loan for demo and he MIGHT bring it over for us to fondle tomorrow evening.

Next, food and drink. Here's a list of suggestions, along with committments. If you'd like to bring something, just sign up:
Fajita meat - Bogey
Chips - Big Dawg
Guacamole - Big Dawg
Salsa (various kinds, also queso dip)
Salad fixings
Sodas
Your favorite adult beverage (I'll have Tecate beer and rum and gin)
Other munchies

Have a blast, guys, as I will not be able to attend the festivities, I don't believe, but I'll try and find out if there are any openings if my schedule become more flexible tomorrow night.

As far as the table, I'd be very interested in partaking in that DIY event. Let me know how many you guys would like to make, as I'm thinking I could probably dig up a few people who would love to be involved and make one for them (mostly from my cuz's...GoldTooph's...group).
Hank: just to confirm, we should be there at 6:30, right? I'll bring a 6-pack of warsteiner to share around. That stuff was tasty.
Right-O Jeff. See you here.
Just returned from HEB and I have the chicken fajita meat, my gracious daughter is making her fantastic garlic-laden hot salsa that will burn the lint out of navels. I have cheese, crackers and (of course) mixed nuts for munchies, and gin, vodka, rum and tequila for poker courage.
Nils is bringing chips and guacamole, so everyone else can bring what they're inspired to bring.
Look for the flashing red "OPEN" sign on the front door

Sorry I won't make it tonight guys, realized the debate was on and I'm driving back to Bryan afterwards.

This debate is better than poker! I can't wait to hear "you forgot Poland" again
post #107 of 555
My thanks to Hank for hosting and to everyone else for making the new guy feel welcome.

Seeing that spectacular showdown between Jeff and Steve was well worth the price of admission.
Thanks for hosting last night Hank, we had a lot of fun as always. So who won the showdown?
Yours truly. If I recall correctly, Jeff raised to 12 after I limped in for the 2, then I reraised to 32 total, he called. Flop came KJ4, I believe. I pushed all-in, and Jeff (after much debate) called. He had K6 (so top pair), and I had AA.

This is where it got fun, though. There was probably over $30 in the pot by this point, so I offered Jeff $4 to give up on the hand for fear of being sucked out. He said, "No thanks. I'm going to hit a K or a 6, and I said I'd go out in a blaze of glory when I called."

Next card was a 6 of diamonds, which made three on the board and I had the A of diamonds, so I needed a diamond or an A to win the pot, and the river was the Ace of hearts. No flush, but trip Aces was better than his Kings and Sixes.

Wickedly fun pot. Thanks for hosting, Hank, as I always have a blast at the HTF games.

You're quite welcom, guys! It was, as always, good fun and fellowship!

Now, for Halloween evening...

Any interest in a no-limit tourny this Friday? A guy I know (I've played at his house twice...mostly folks fairly new to the game, typically evidenced by their play) is going to have a tourny this Friday. It will start at 7:00 p.m. and be at a La Quinta Inn. Buy-in will be $25 ($5 of which goes toward the room) and he will have rebuys ($20) for the first hour or so, I believe.

He checked out the suite and said it's set up very well for 2-3 tables, but he wants to cap this tourny at 16 since it's the first one there (he spoke the the manager about it, so they know we'll be playing cards, but he wants it to go smoothly so as to have a tourny about every other week there). He's going to get 8-10 folks, so I'm trying to dig up interested parties. I know the 7:00 start time could be troublesome (Nils comes to mind), but I'm hoping that two or three HTFers are free (bring the pig, Tubes).

Thank you for your interest.
Oops. Change of plans. Just talked to Jason, and there's not enough interest from his group (they just played this Saturday, I believe) to have it this Friday, so he's planning to do it on October 29th, two weeks from this Friday. This gives a bit more notice, so hopefully we can get a few people to commit to playing.

Poker Night at Tube's Pad
Friday, Oct. 15th, 7pm

Per Nils urging, I have convinced my wife to let me host a poker game this Friday night.

So who's interested?
My chips are needing more usage.

The reason for this game is that it is a celebration now that I have finally got cables for my system. My cables that have been on order for 4 months still have not come in, but Brian got sick of the whole thing and is probably going to drop TG Audio eventhough he loves their product. So he has turned over to me all of his demo stock including upgraded IC's and slightly longer speaker wire. Finally, music has once again returned to my house! Of course right now I am fighting some hum and noise issues, but I should have the culprit figured out by Saturday night. No biggie anyways.

In conclusion, invite anyone you know and spread the word, lets fill the seven openings. First come, first serve, so post here or shoot me an email with your RSVP.

Grrrr... so much for my urging as I'll be in Houston Friday night and wont be back until next week, but you'll know I was there in spirit if Tubes suffers from a few "YB" moments.
Add me to the list, Tubes. Hopefully we can drum up a few folks and make it a go. I've got some calls out. Hayenga (the big one), I want a shot at some of your money. Lord knows you've got enough of mine to bankroll you for tomorrow.

Poker at Hank's Cafe Americain!
"Round up the usual suspects."

I've given up on attracting a group for Halloween night horror movie, so I'll try poker. Greg said he could probably do Friday or Saturday night (this week). My preference is Friday night. Socialize, snacks and drinks, poker. Start at 7:00.

Who's interested?
Hank,
Maria is just not showing much of an interest in going out Sunday night, but I should be able to be there Friday or Saturday night for some poker.

I also have your folding chairs that you left last weekend at Victor's, so I will try to remember to bring them.

P.S. Preferably Saturday night as I may go to the poker tournament that Steve mentioned two weeks ago occuring this Friday still, I believe. Not decided yet.
Scott, I'm giving up. I don't get the lack of interest in either a horror movie night on Halloween or Saturday or Friday OR poker on Friday or Saturday. I can't do Friday because I have to walk out on the field with Taylor at his football game tomorrow night.

If enough people commit, we can certainly do a socializing/poker night Saturday. I'll just wait and see.
That's cool, it must be the season as no one ever seems to have any luck getting an event going this time of year.

I'll plan to get in touch with Steve to find out about that tournament tonight.
Sorry for my inactivity, guys. I was out of town twice this week. Scott's right. I did commit (and then forget) to a poker tourny this Friday. Tubes, give me a call if you'd like to come. Starts at 7:00 sharp at the La Quinta at 35 and 290. $32 buy-in ($7 for the room) and rebuys for an hour and a $10 add-on when the rebuy period ends (I have no idea why he chose those numbers, but it's Jason's tourny).

I doubt I can get away Saturday for poker, though, as my nephew is having some kind of football-related dinner or something, if I recall correctly. If there is a game, though, I may try to make it if at all possible (I'd say 25% right now).
