Austin HTF Poker Thread - Page 9

Non-poker but semi-related.

Saturday, I had an opportunity to partake of some truly premium tequila. I am not talking about my $40 a botlle stuff, I had the the top of the line Jose Cuervo and Don Julio brands that cost like $120 a bottle.

OMG, it was the smoothest stuff I had ever tasted. We just sipped it straight up, no chilling or ice, and their was almost no signs while going down of it screaming "Hey I am made of alcohol." Instead it just had the most com-lex taste I have had. Touch of various spices, a little oak earthiness, and few floral and fruit flavors thrown in as well. Amazing stuff!

I give up on trying to find a single malt that suits my taste buds for all premium liquor dollars will from hence forth be saved towards buying a bottle of this uber-expensive stuff.

Now that I have a new job, I can play again. Plus my wife wants to kick me out so she can do some homework. I'll be there, and I'll bring some of my "equalizer". I just hope I remember how to play. Are we starting at about 7 again? And, yes I got the hint from the e-mail. What did you miss my money?

Ahhh, Tubes, I had a feeling you'd see the light and come over to the Tequila Side someday. Suggestion: back down at the $40-ish range, try Don Julio.

I just now got to your e-mail and will try to make it Saturday.
Hank, I have had Don Julio Anejo, it is nothing like Don Julio 1942 for $120. Delicious stuff!

My personal favorite of the two was the Jose Cuervo Gran Reserva for $100. It had a really interesting earthy taste, whereas the Don Julio bottle had more of a dessert/ apertif like flavor.

Keep um coming with the reservations.

Email me directions and I'll try to make it Saturday. I work until 7, but will head over after.

Count me as a late arrival maybe.
Dang it, Tubes. It doesn't look good for me. When setting up my weekend festivities, I set up Saturday as "date night." Well, our baby sitter/niece is not available tonight, so tomorrow is looking bleak. I'd rather do the HTF game than the Dead Money game, but a game is a game, and it's gonna have to be Friday this weekend.

Have a blast and give me updates, though.

Alright so I have 4 spots filled.

Jeff B.
Hank
Leroy
Myself

Nils wil most likely in but will need to be late.
Jonathan is a hopefully yes but has some Mirus audio stuff that may keep him away.

Left messages for Chad and Mark, then haven't heard a peep from several others.

So help a buddy out and get your butt over here.
Sorry guys. I wasn't able to make it. Had to work too late on the project I have been working on and was too tired to do anything but go home and sleep afterward. I pretty much wrapped up the project today so hopefully I can make it next time.

Tourney at my house on Saturday at 2:00 (just in case I missed anyone on my emailing). $30 buy-in, no rebuys, no-limit hold'em, regular ole tourney. The more the merrier.

Thanks to Boat Blair and Tubes for making it to the tourney (and Nils for making it to the cash game following that didn't ... sorry, Nils).

Boat was the chip leader for a while until Hoover...I mean Kirby...I mean Dyson...I mean Tubes had his way with him. Tubes ended up taking me out for the victory, and put on a clinic on short-stack poker. He must have survived 4-5 all-ins, most as the underdog (though not a huge underdog...except for that K3 vs. 10-10 of Blair's).

Where are those dang Hayenga Bros.? Come on down next week and get your games on, boys.

Another tourney this Saturday (1:30 check-in). Since the Longhorns are already ousted, we know there won't be a conflict there (so come on down, Robert_Z).

I think I got most on the mailing list or evite, but just wanted to post it here as well. Email me at stogels@yahoo if you need any info.

Anybody interested in some poker on April 1st (or 2nd if that is better for the majority).

I didn't get my desire to host sastiated by the last game, also I want to throw in some dinner this time around for the players in attendance. Right now, I am thinking of cooking up some Beef Daube as the main entree and Croutons with Olive Tapenade as a starter.

Still need to double chack with Maria, but shouldn't be a problem there. So with dinner being served I think it would be good to open up the house at 6 PM (meaning the food will be done then) and still plan to start poker at about 7 PM.

Please get in touch with me if interested and feel free to spread the word to any of the usual parties that don't check this forum. Space will be limited to of course the first 7 RSVP's I get.

P.S. This is not an APRIL FOOLS post, that weekend just works best for my schedule.
Hey Scott did you decide on a night? I am interested but need to know when and or if it's going to be.
Well I sent out an email saying it is cancelled due to a lack of response, but it seems to have generated a small amount of interest.

So far Hank and Steve could do Friday night but not Saturday. So if we have a few more folks wanting to play then I certainly wouldn't mind hosting on Friday.

Jonathan do you ever speak to the Hayenga's, Mark has never returned a call whne I leave messages. If they were available that would be really cool. As we could really use two more folks for this thing to go off.

No fancy meal however as Maria and I have already changed plans with the initial lack of interest to have another couple over for dinner on Saturday.

BTW, I am really surprised by these amps when I push them hard. Right now I am listening to Chemical Brother's "Dig Your Own Hole" and there was just a track with a huge bass drop that shook the hell out of my couch. No sub attached of course.

Martini's, Martini's, Martini's, Oh and Poker!

I am going to try to host a poker night once again. This time however I am giving everyone plenty of leadtime to get it on their schedules.

I am free on both the weekends of the 14th and 21st in May, but for the sake of throwing out a date let's go with Friday, May 13th, 7pm.

This night I will be trying out my new recipes for the Martini contest occuring in June. So those in attendance will be my guinea pigs, trust me this will be a good thing if you enjoy cocktails.

Here are the recipes that I am picking from for my three fianlists:
Pineapple and Ginger Martini
Lotus Martini
Hunk Martini
Coconut Water
Koi Yellow
Jame's Bond Vesper Martini
Clover Leaf Martini

What better day than FRIDAY THE 13th to be a guinea pig for Scott's martini experimentation! As the TCU-T-shirted character in "Tin Cup" said: I'm in!

Scott, and anyone else who may have tried these...

The first is Grand Marnier's new vanilla cognac, NAVAN and the other is Tito's vodka made right here in Austin.

I have not tried NAVAN, but I did try Tito's and was impressed, so much so I bought a bottle. If you have not tried it yet I'd recommend a sampling.

(click here for an article on Tito in the Chronicle)

4 out of 8 spots now filled
5th most likely filled

Bogey
Colton
Tubes
Cossell
and another Hank

Made a Hunk Martini over the weekend, probably won't make the cut but was quite nice. A wonderful blend of vanilla and pineapple that had a taste reminiscent of Key Lime Pie.

Oops missed that one entirely!
I think it is your signature, takes up too much real estate.

Ok then that should make eight. Very good, see you then!
Oh, now Nils, that was uncalled-for. I spoke to Shazam last night at rehearsal and he may be in. I'll try to get a definite answer ASAP.

BTW, I've tried Tito's vodka and must say that while nice, it doesn't live up to it's local cult following, and it is expensive. The smoothest affordable Vodka I've found is Monopalova (sp?), a 100% potatoe distillate, though with a Polish name, is actually made in Austria.
Hank careful on asking Shazam as I stated above we have eight now and are full, so we can call off the hounds on getting attendance. At least as long as Conrad is a go, if he ends up not being to come then we will ask around some more to fill that last spot. Otehrwise I would prefer not to have to rotate players at the table.

That is the point of easily identifiable signatures - so that they are EASY to spot... blind boy!

Sawy... couldn't resist. After all, besides occasionally missing posts, you sometimes even forget your own posts - like in Testy...

Nils, my bud and near-neighbor, thank you for sending me a link to this thread, where I've never tread before (untread thread?)
Hmmm... are you sure you never treaded there before?

No worries my friend, just keeping you on your toes.
