Region 1 Special Editions I'd really like to see get made. - Page 2

Universals "STREETS OF FIRE" directed by Walter Hill and starring Diane Lane.

Another vote for the above mentioned titles also.
Films I would like to see get SEs, and real ones at that:

All of Me (OAR)
Annie (OAR with real extras)
Grumpy Old Men (OAR)
The Happiest Millionaire (16x9)
How the West Was Won (16x9)
The Jerk (needs to be OAR)
The King and I (16x9, with LD extras; Fox has just restored this film)
The Man With Two Brains (OAR)
Matilda (OAR)
Oklahoma (16x9 2-disc set of both Todd-AO and Cinemascope versions) (edit: COMING in November)!
Oliver!

I second remastered 3 Stooges box sets, B&W only.
Also, when will we see a release for... SKI SCHOOL?!
I second Annie Hall. Add on Hannah and Her Sisters and Manhattan, with, as Matthew stated, real extras. The current versions of these films look like (are?) shoddy video transfers. I suppose one could make this complaint about most of Allen's oeuvre on DVD.

I know this goes without saying, but who wouldn't but a two disc SE of King Kong? I'm sure something like this will happen in conjunction with Jackson's remake, but I haven't heard anything definite.
Braindead (Dead Alive)
Meet the Feebles
Street Trash
The Three Amigos (OAR)
Ice Pirates

I second "The Jerk" and "The Man With Two Brains" for OAR.
I second most of the flicks on these lists...

Meet the Feebles

Wasn't Anchor Bay working on this at one point? I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Saw a 35mm print at a movie marathon in Cleveland two years ago, half of the crowd walked out within 15 minutes, the other half shook their head in disbelief and laughed their asses off.

Time to update my list... (Adding all the titles from my previous posts in this new one plus several new ones.)

The 13th Warrior (I'd love to see the Michael Crichton extended cut/reshoots via seamless branching for this film.)
1492: The Conquest of Paradise - The Director's Cut
Awakenings
Bachelor Party
BACKDRAFT - Collector's Edition
BEETLEJUICE
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure/Bogus Journey (I'd definitely enjoy a full-blown/tilt Special Edition features loaded version. The piece of cake would be a commentary track from Keanu, Alex and George as themselves and a seperate commentary track with Keanu and Alex in character giving a commentary.)
Bram Stoker's Dracula (Criterion?)
BULLITT
CASINO
Dead Poet's Society (Maybe a release like the Collector's/Special Edition from R2?)
FACE/OFF (Special Collector's Edition...)
The Fisher King
A Fistfull of Dollars
First Knight
Flash Gordon
For a Few Dollars More
The Frighteners - Director's Cut (A direct port of the extras from the Signature Collection Director's Cut with the obvious use of updated transfers plus anamorphic widescreen would be excellent.)
The Game (Criterion?)
GHOSTBUSTERS II
HEAT (Since this has already been confirmed as a Two-Disc Special Edition from Warners', I'll just list it anyway.)
HOOK
Jewel of the Nile
Judge Dredd
Ladyhawke
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome
The Man Who Would Be King
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
MAVERICK
Mission: Impossible
The Neverending Story (This MUST get a Two-Disc Special Edition treatment from Warners'. Disc Once, both the American and German Cuts via seamless branching, Director Wolfgang Petersen commentary. Disc Two, from book to screen, filming of The Neverending Story, recaps, featurettes.)
No Escape
OUTLAND
Raging Bull
Ransom (Why the hell isn't there an Anamorphic version of this yet?!)
Rising Sun (I'd love to see a full blown 2-Disc Collector's Edition from Fox. That's how much I have high regards for the Michael Crichton book and the movie.)
The Rocketeer (I have all of The Rocketeer comic books so I guess you could say I'm a fan. A commentary track from the Director and creator Dave Stevens. Another commentary track from the Director and Bill Campbell. Documentaries and behind-the-scenes feauturettes would be excellent.)
Romancing the Stone
The Shadow (ALOT can be done to this film to warrant an immediate purchase from me. Anamorphic, high definition transfer for starters. 1.85:1 theatrical aspect ratio, from radio to comic and pulp to film, a history of the various incarnations of The Shadow throughout the decades, Director Russell Mulcahy commentary, Alec Baldwin commentary, isolated score and alot of other features which would give this film it's much needed DVD "update".)
StarMan
SUPERMAN II
TRUE LIES

As a Liam Neeson fan (and of part Irish heritage) I'm going to add:

Michael Collins

Current release is non-anamorphic and has few extras aside from an interesting interview with Neil Jordan.
Quote:

My understanding is that Woody Allen is not a fan of extra features. At least he insists on releasing his DVDs in OAR!

I second the request for Streets of Fire, and I'd like to see an SE of Velvet Goldmine as well.
The ones that I'm most anxious to see are:

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Big Lebowski
Adaptation
Face/Off
Broken Arrow

At least the first four on that list have been rumoured to be getting special edition releases this year.
When Adaptation came out as a Superbit-only title, I was *sure* that it'd have an SE soon. Still waiting! (What a fantastic film -- come on, Sony!)
Evita - with an anamorphic transfer, DTS soundtrack from the DTS laserdisc, Alan Parker commentary and extras from the Criterion laserdisc set.

All preferably released via Criterion Collection. Given that Evita is a BV title, and Armageddon and the Wes Anderson films have got the CC treatment, I can still hold out hope....

Ah well!

My two tops right now...

- The Graduate: 2-disc S.E.

- Midnight Cowboy: 2-disc S.E.

Both anamorphic remasters with restored audio tracks, commentary tracks and ample features. I'm surprised that two of the most significant films of the 70's are still not available in a fitting form. These need to be released immediately!!

Wuthering Heights (1939) SE by MGM/Sony!!!
Bonnie and Clyde 2-Disc SE
Stagecoach 2-Disc SE
The Wild Bunch 2-Disc SE

The Truman Show

The Lawnmower Man needs to be revisited with the director's cut that re-inserts the deleted scenes back into the movie.

Equilibrium

I was sure that with Batman Begins coming out they'd jump on the chance to tie in with this Christian Bale movie.
Child's Play - the only thing keeping me from buying the entire Chucky series is that the first one is only in full-screen!

Scream - this needs to be released as the director's cut and anamorphic

Just going through my collection, these movies need to be re-released with a 16x9 transfer:

2 Days in the Valley
The Abyss
Armageddon
Backdraft
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker Uncut

Brian,
I believe that Child's Play is open matte Full Frame. Also, I recall that there's insufficient film elements to make a widescreen version of the film now. I'm also sure there're threads which issue this predicament.
Ray, that is interesting to hear, and frustrating if true. I'll have to find more information about that.
Well, I looked and couldn't find any information about a widescreen version not possible. In fact, there is a widescreen version in Region 2. So, MGM needs to get off their ass and make a Child's Play SE!
I just finished watching stripes for the first time, and it reminded me how much I love the movie Spies Like Us. I know that is available in a barebones full frame version, but I would love to see it come special edition widescreen.
Ray,
I think you can retire Starman from your list as well, that's one of the titles Sony is holding hostage until we upgrade to a hi-def dvd or blu ray player.

I'm also in the camp of people who don't own any of the Child's Play films because of the original's lack of OAR on dvd.

A few of my faves that need updating...

Pumpkinhead

Twins

Backdraft

Child's Play

Three O'Clock High

Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2
(what the hell is taking these very high profile films so long!?)

Remo Williams The Adventure Begins

Honeymoon in Vegas

Grumpy Old Men

I'm so glad that Titanic is no longer on this type of list, it's finally coming!
Thread Starter
That's because Titanic I don't think was ever on my list in the first place. Also, I don't feel like updating as much anymore.
Well, obviously what I meant was, Titanic thankfully won't be on ANYONE'S upgrade list now, since it's finally on it's way.
