The Invaders - Page 22

YES, 'VERY' WELL IN FACT!!!!!

I always like to keep this discussion thread going!

THE INVADERS - THE FIRST SEASON 5-disc set broke well into the top 100 sales ranks for both AMAZON.COM (U.S.) and AMAZON.CA (Canada).

Point-of-fact it kept rebounding back into the top 100 sales rank margin of AMAZON.CA for well over three months after its initial release back in May 27th, 2008!

As if that weren't already enough evidence the recently released THE INVADERS - THE SECOND SEASON (Region 4) 7-disc set is currently out-of-stock at the Australian-based DVD online retail ordering service EZYDVD.COM just as THE INVADERS - THE FIRST SEASON (Region 4) 5-disc set previously was shortly after its release via the selfsame online DVD retailer:

THE INVADERS - THE SECOND SEASON 7-disc box set @ EZYDVD (Click Here).

An "informed" individual close to the very source involved with this specific DVD collection has given his (positive) assurances that a North American (Region 1) DVD release of THE INVADERS' second season (1967-68) is most definitely planned (probably sometime in the new year).

So just hang in there for some more great SF tv excitement!

Re: The Invaders

I was trying to understand your post title, Jeff...then I read the post above yours dated nearly 2 months ago asking about sales--LOL.

Count me in as A BELIEVER that they will LAND AGAIN in '09!

Re: The Invaders

Hopefully, they plan to include some extras this time around, too. I should think more episode introductions and at least one commentary track from Mr. Thinnes would be in order.

If there was room, Quinn Martin's TV pilot The Aliens Are Coming might make a nice extra. It's sort-of a 1970s reworking of the show (I bought the Worldvision/Goodtimes VHS tape a long time ago and remember its original 1979 (or 1980?) broadcast.

'POSSIBLE' SECOND SEASON EXTRAS!!!!!

From what I understand there was definitely more to the Roy Thinnes oncamera interview conducted than was featured in the first season DVD set so likely the remainder of this conversation will be included with the second season release.

The "In Colour" pre-main opening title bumpers and Roy's special intros will also be back...but beyond that nothing else has been divulged!

Likely a tv promo (or two) from the second season.

If there is yet another variation of the unaired (THE) INVADERS pilot "Beachhead" (10/01/1967) I wouldn't mind having that thrown in for good measure. I would really like a non-time compressed 51 minute length video transfer of the telecast version of "Beachhead" included as well.

Keep in mind that neither of the Australian (Region 4) DVD releases had any kind of special extras to speak of...and yet series fans from down under are delighted with these sets just the same!

Do any exist (that you know of)? The only promos I ever remember floating around the "collector" community was the "series premiere" one.

Well, I have one on VHS that's only about 30 seconds longer than the aired one. Only real difference I was able to spot was the opening credits, as in the extended version, were played out over live-action footage of Thinnes driving away from the town, rather than the normal end titles.

I had totally forgotten about that! Yes, if they can turn up a non-compressed version of Beach Head putting it on the second season set would be an excellent "make-good" to the fans! Color-corrected versions of the first few season one episodes (was it all of disc 1?) would be nice, too, but doubtful, since that would add an entire disc.

Yes, I'm fully aware of that (and also, the UK sets had none, either), just thinking that if they pushed the boat out for season one, maybe they'll do it again for season two as an added incentive.

Re: The Invaders

Just started watching the first season. It was a very impressive series for the time, especially all the on location shooting. I guess I was dissapointed with the video quality. It is only passable on a really large screen. I've been watching I Dream Of Jeannie, and those look much cleaner and sharper. Star Trek TOS is in another league entirely. I sure hope that Paramount does find it worth their while to go back to the original negatives and clean them up for a much better looking Blu Ray release.

INVADERS SECOND SEASON TV PROMO!!!!!

There is one definite THE INVADERS second season (1967-68) tv promo which consists of a compilation of scenes drawn from "Condition: Red!" (05/09/1967), "The Saucer" (12/09/1967), "The Watchers" (19/09/1967) and "Valley of the Shadow" (27/09/1967) albeit whether it will be included remains to be seen.

I also recall an ABC Television Network tv promo heralding the debut of THE INVADERS derived exclusively of scenes taken from the pilot "Beachhead" (10/01/1967) that is still outstanding.

Reflecting on my own intelligence Roy Thinnes was contracted for two days work to provide all his oncamera material and there was no audio commentary done. It has been pretty much ascertained (at least for the present) that Roy will likely not be approached again to contribute anything more for the second season DVD release sad to say.

I have definitely not noticed any colour shifting or similarly related imperfections (except for that one scene in "The Leeches" which was brought to our attention in this discussion thread) with the first disc of THE INVADERS - THE FIRST SEASON 5-disc set myself although most of us were hoping for fully restored and digitally remastered video transfers to be utilized.

Another possible special extra that could be considered is THE INVADERS-like Aaron Spelling Television Productions made-for-tv film (now under the auspices of Paramount Television) THE LOVE WAR (1970) which was scored by none other than (THE) INVADERS production staff member Dominic Frontiere.

I greedily ran through the collection and really can't wait for season two to be released.

Thanks for reviving this thread!

Re: The Invaders

JeffT, I had of course heard of the show forever, but had never actually caught any episodes of The Invaders. Your enthusiasm for the series convinced me to get it as a blind buy on street date. When I got time to watch it about a month afterward, I raced through it because it was so excellent. I was very impressed. Thanks!

Re: The Invaders

I'll be quite interested in Season Two, whenever it gets here. I still remember the show fondly from my youth, though I have to admit that I remember very little of the Season Two stories.

I've seen "The Saucer", as it's one of the episodes that Goodtimes put out on VHS, and I remember the big event of the second season being the inclusion of a group of people who believed David Vincent (called "The Believers" with Kent Smith).

But the week to week stories, I remember almost nothing about, yet I watched the series quite faithfully every Tuesday evening.

So the eventual DVD release of these episodes will be a real treat.

THE END OF A LONG, EVENTFUL ODYSSEY!!!!!

Until there is "official" word made there is always the spectre of doubt but this great news was always pretty much a certainty albeit the actual release date remained a undetermined mystery.

My thanks to Roy Thinnes for participating in the special individual episode intros and oncamera interview, to Paramount Pictures-CBS Home Entertainment for committing itself in completing this much appreciated DVD release, to TV SHOWS ON DVD for the prompt intelligence and by no means last to all those enthusiastic (THE) INVADERS fans worldwide who bought the first season DVD release obviously making it a rousing success.

It is always nice to have successful completion and closure on such a DVD collection albeit perhaps some time in the future a considerably "improved" upon DVD release will come about.

Re: The Invaders

How would you like to see it improved?

Re: The Invaders

It would be nice to see some of the early Season 1 episodes cleaned up. They look like their transferred from 16 rather than 35mm film.

After The Fugitive and My Three Sons, not to mention Cannon, with its sub-par picture quality, I can't get excited by any CBS/Paramount future release. With their recent track record, I wouldn't be surprised if this release has bad prints, music replacement, or both.

THE 'ORIGINAL' 35mm SOURCE ELEMENTS!!!!!

What I am about to propose is not without precedent.

If you recall Paramount Pictures-CBS Home Entertainment originally released on DVD the "standard issue" television syndicated prints of THE TWILIGHT ZONE tv series but eventually went back to the original 35mm print negatives and restruck (virtually) pristine condition video transfers for its Definitive Edition Series of THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

So I would expect something similarly done with THE INVADERS in time.

THE INVADERS has proven its (substantial) clout with today's DVD consumer and SF entertainment is always in vogue and a clear undisputed front runner in today's DVD retail market. This cannot be disputed beyond a shadow of a doubt!

I said it before pertaining to VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA. I said it before pertaining to THE TIME TUNNEL. And I said it with THE INVADERS...and I was right every time on this!

This is the entertainment of the future!

You will also recall that the aired version of the pilot "Beachhead" (10/01/1967) was most definitely a "time compressed" copy which will never do...at least in my own thinking!

So there is definitely room for considerable improvement here.

As I have oft-timed stated before what is the point of having advanced state-of-the-art technology in optimum picture and sound quality if it is seldom utilized by these major DVD distribution companies like Paramount?!

This is particularly relevant with the so-called "older" tv series (and films for that matter) which in most cases so sorely requires the benefits of such.

Re: The Invaders

Although I wouldn't want replaced special effects, the remastering of Star Trek shows what going back to the original elements can look like, iow fantastic! I sure hope we can look forwards to a remaster or immaculate blu release someday.

Re: The Invaders

These days I'm happy to simply have unedited picture and unaltered sound, especially when it comes to products from CBS/Par. Sad I am reduced to such low expectations, but there it is.

I count myself fortunate now when I get my hands on something I wanted that is unaltered.

Yes, we are becoming a jaded lot where classic tv/dvd is concerned. My expectations have dropped considerably as well and the once infallible Paramount has been pretty much reduced to the level of all the other studios in my eyes, which is to say that just about any snafu is up for grabs. It's just as well that "The Invaders" isn't a four season show. Even if the last set were to be released, it would probably bear little resemblance to the first.

I'll also consider myself fortunate if they just keep the picture quality on par with S1 and leave the soundtrack completely alone.

I'm with you, Michael. We definitely think alike on this issue. I think it was Steve O. who made the comment on another thread about CBS/Paramount being a great case study as to how a company can fall down the ranks so quickly in the eyes of at least a portion of their fans. I know that the majority of people that pick up these dvds don't pay attention to the details that we here do (either because they just don't know about the show or they don't really care). And since we are in the minority the sad fact is CBS/Paramount really isn't feeling any major pressure to change things up. But that doesn't stop me from still voicing my displeasure at the current state of affairs and it doesn't stop me from believing that on at least one level what they are doing is at best unfortunate, and at worst unethical - I'm thinking of the M3S ending credits deal reported by another poster.

Gary "thankful that at least one company, and Indy albeit, seems to at least be trying to do the right thing - Shout! Factory" O.

Gary, I'm cautiously optimistic over "Invaders" S2 but after what happened to the 'sophomore' releases to "The Untouchables", "The Fugitive" and "Gomer Pyle", to say nothing of what happened to M3S, I will not be pre-ordering this until I read reviews on Amazon.

Paramount was once the shining beacon for a major studio's treatment of classic tv. But now, the "pedastal" is starting to resemble a "gallows".

As you said, thank God for some of the independants doing some fine work. Even Sony (with "Partridge Family" S3) and Universal ("Night Gallery" S2) two studios I've had qualms with in the past, have moved up a notch while Paramount has been on a downward trend in meeting customer expectations (for vintage shows anyway).

Keep in mind that Image Entertainment was the company behind both iterations of the Twilight Zone releases.

Re: The Invaders

Season 2 will make a great birthday gift for myself, glad to see it's being released. I just hope the picture quality is as good as season 1 or better and no music changes. The music on this show is great.

IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!

You're absolutely right Jay!

Technically speaking Paramount hasn't released THE TWILIGHT ZONE on DVD as yet but licensed this (former) CBS Television property out to another DVD distributor.

I suppose that does open up the possibility that THE INVADERS could similarly be licensed out to an outfit like Image Entertainment some time in the future.

More power to Ron for buying his own birthday gift!

From what I have been able to ascertain those who have purchased the already released Region 4 edition of THE INVADERS - THE SECOND SEASON 7-disc set are very pleased with it and I haven't as yet heard any disastisfaction pertaining specifically to the video transfer quality, the music scoring or the inclusion of any "time-compressed" episodes (albeit the latter is always a distinct possibility in the light of the time-compressed "Beachhead" contained in the first season set).

I don't imagine that the picture and sound quality of the second season video transfers will differ that much from the first.

Pertaining to licensing out some of its vintage tv properties to other companies it would be great if Image Entertainment acquired ONE STEP BEYOND from Paramount and similarly give it the deluxe treatment that was lavished upon THE TWILIGHT ZONE in a Definitive Edition DVD release.

You haven't seen crappy yet until you see "Duckman" that was just released from CBS..what a waste!

Re: The Invaders

When I included Twilight Zone in my comment about CBS, it was because the property is theirs; they could've chosen to release it themselves and screwed it up, and can still do so in the future; I was expressing my gratitude that they did not screw it up.
