Some are as short as 34 Minutes! (As I said on my Previous Post. "45 Minutes, Or Less!")

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

I'm happy to see the uncut episodes too! I think the entire series will be released even if sales are not as good as expected for the later seasons. Paramount always comes through and finishes series that they release. In my opinion each season had good episodes and bad episodes. Of course the first 5 seasons were the best......but the show didn't really get bad until the final season. Here's hoping for all 12 seasons of Hawaii Five-O!

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Here's an 8th season episode that aired on TV Land (must have been a special presentation, because they didn't regularly air Hawaii Five-0). Of course that means it's edited. www.guba.com/watch/2000852491

The 8th season in 1975 features one of my favorite versions of the series theme songs, and is sort of a more refined cross between the 4th Season theme and a prototype for Season 10's theme.

This one runs more than 46 minutes instead of 49+.

"The Case Against McGarrett" guest-stars Harold Gould as Honore Vashion. This single episode is three years after the 3-part story "V for Vashon", and picks up where Vashon is in prison.

TV Land also ran that 3 parter, because here's "V for Vashon: The Patriarch" from Season 5:

A warning though: Whoever uploaded the above neglected to include the rest of the Vashon trilogy.
"V for Vashon: The Son" and "V for Vashon: The Father" are missing!

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Actually, I believe this is from TV Land Canada, a sister service to the U.S. TV Land, which has still to my knowledge never run Hawaii Five-0. I've read online that these episodes, as you point out, were remastered but not butchered to the extent that the Family Channel/WGN versions were (which ran around 43 minutes). TV Land Canada runs a number of shows that don't air on the U.S. TV Land for whatever reason.

I think the reason might be that TV Land Canada is actually good as compared to the US one. In addition, they have far less commercial content in Canada so if the network there is provided with an uncut version of a show, that is how it's aired. Those of us who trade have known for years that the way to pick up complete versions of shows off-air is to get them from our friends up north.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Actually, my Canadian trading contact is how I ended up with a complete collection of the '60s Batman series uncut. I can't stand the U.S. TV Land anymore. They change their schedule around every single week, and they broadcast shows late at night off-schedule, starting at bizarre times because they load them up with ridiculous male-enhancement commercials and other nonsense.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

I wasn't aware that TV Land had a Canadian cable outlet.

Other than the CBC (which is a broadcast network), the only Canadian cable channel I've ever seen programming from is Space -- their answer to our Sci-Fi Channel. Back in the late 1990s I acquired a number of episodes on VHS of First Wave that way before those new episodes finally aired on the Sci-Fi Channel.....6 months after they were on Space.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

I'm glad to see this set is starting at a good price point, that might help sales. Amazon has it for $34.99, not bad at all for what you get.

An early review of the set...

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

I've read 2 reviews of this set, and it appears the episodes HAVE been digitally remastered. Here's hoping it sells well (currently ranked at #69 on Amazon) and that we get Season 2 within the next 6 months, which is even better than Season 1.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Even though Hawaii Five-O didn't need to be digitally remastered, DVD packagers of important series like this feel the need to do extra work on the transfer process. I only wish they felt the same way about Have Gun Will Travel and the color episodes of GUNSMOKE...

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

I will probably buy this one around Xmastime, Hopefully there will be Three SZeasons out by then. (I like to buy Box Sets ov TV Series with at least 52 Episodes on them, which at the rate of 1 show a week, is "A Years Supply"

This is another series I could not wait for! Less than two weeks away! Let hope for all 12 seasons, and full episodes!

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Thanks for the link Bob!! Boy, I just can't wait for this show. Hawaii Five-O used to be on after my bed time as a child, and I would sneek out of my room to try to catch glimpses of it. Only one more week now, and it will be like seeing it for the first time - only better; we only had a grainy B&W TV set at the time.

Haha I do that one episode of any TV program per week! Makes em last longer, and better than watching them in one go

I did the same thing, cracked the door to catch what I could and pretended to be sleeping when my parents got suspicious. Mine has shipped from DDD and I am eagerly awaiting arrival.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

I just pre-ordered my set from Amazon. This is going to be great to see this show again. I didn't watch it much when it was originally on, but I do remember it. Besides, I just love cop shows.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

This is probably my most eagerly awaited title so far this year. It's been missing from reruns in my area for a long time so I'm really looking forward to reconnecting with the Five-O gang. To this day I still refer to any driving that results in squealing tires at every start, stop, and turn as "Steve McGarrett Style."

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Season 1 is now currently ranked on Amazon at #37 in the DVD sales chart, a few days ago it was #69. I would love to see it crack the top 10 during the next week.

That's good to hear and, hopefully, good sales will bode well for a season 2 release (we're dealing with Paramount and that's a plus in my book). Though it's a long shot, if "Hawaii Five-0" sells well, maybe someone would consider releasing Jack Lord's earlier one season drama from the 1962-63 season, "Stoney Burke."

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

What else can I add except to confirm that the episodes do indeed look spectacular - absolutely the best looking older series on dvd so far, very sharp and clean with well defined colors. I really enjoyed the two hour pilot episode "Cocoon" and am glad Paramount included it. Interesting to see the opening theme music and opening shots and how they were changed by the time the first season episode premiered. Now, the difficult part will be to refrain from watching them too quickly!

After reading this I'm excited,I was worried they wouldn't have the commerical break wave scene in each episode. It's amazing how something so little really does add to the end of a scene and brings a better transition to the next. Cool!....bummer about the "be there, Aloha" thing though...can anyone answer that question?..was it in the first season?

Hawaii Five-Oh oh

I take out Disc 1, pop it in my DVD player, and wait for it to play ... and wait ... and wait ... and it stops. I clean the player's laser. Nothing. I wipe the disc from center to edge softly to remove any dust or particles that may be impeding the laser. Nothing. I put the disc into my DVD-ROM drive with pukey speakers so-so monitor, and ... it plays.

Now I'm worried that if I exchange it, the same thing will happen with the replacement.

The other discs play with no problem.

I've put my disc 1 in three different DVD players and it plays fine in all three of them. If all the other discs are working fine, it sounds like you have a defective disc.

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Looked this morning and Hawaii 5-0 is ranked #22 on Amazon.com. Here is hoping that this will be a good indicator to Paramount regarding continuing to produce the series on DVD.

I don't think I've exer seen S1 of HFO but there seems to be a Heavy James Bond Influence that dissapeared as the series went on, interesting in that Lord Played Felix Leiter in Dr. No

Re: Hawaii Five-O - Any Interest Out There?

Well, thanks to an Amazon screw up, I'm still not enjoying Hawaii Five-O yet. I won't get to strat watching until tomorrow at the earliest. I'm not too happy at the moment. Especially since I paid for 2-Day shipping and it hasn't arrived yet.
