Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

There were virtually no women at all on the show after season two, with only one in season three (the mermaid episode) and none at all in season four. Irwin Allen apparently didn't like the fact that women took longer to get ready for the cameras than their male counterparts, so he eliminated nearly all female roles after season two.

THE UNAIRED PILOT!!!!!

Naturally it is perfectly fine to show interest in a fourth season (1967-68) DVD release of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA...but it is still way too early to be absolutely panicked about this seeming delay as yet!

A year from now if we still haven't heard anything definite then VOYAGE fans can well get disappointed about this.

At least for the present I am going to exercise supreme confidence that there will indeed be a forthcoming VOYAGE tv series release some time this year.

Anything I say at this premature point will only be pure speculation on my part. However there may well be plans for some new oncamera interviews conducted with David Hedison and/or a complete audio commentary to be included. Who knows?!

This would certainly account for such a delay.

It has been suggested that (because of the inferior reputation of the fourth season episodes in general) perhaps this final release will be packaged as a single season set instead of being broken into two distinct volumes.

But if there are any such intentions then it is really up to 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment to make this known to alay any concerns about an impending DVD release of VOYAGE's fourth season. This likely hasn't been done because Fox doesn't know just what its plans are at present.

Now on the topic of extras I would really like the inclusion of the unaired colour pilot "Eleven Days to Zero" (14/09/1964) with its correct main opening title instead of the deliberately appended second season (1965-66) colour title which was a really bad move and exhibited poor judgement.

Failing that how about the actual colour pilot in which Theodore Marcuse is seen throughout the entire episode as the villainous Dr. Gamma (and not with any additional later reshot scenes with Werner Klemperer)?

I appreciate much of the sentiment in your post, JeffT. But let's face it, Fox isn't the best studio in terms of finishing what they start. Therefore I have to strongly disagree with your contention that we should wait another entire year before concern sets in on us. No way should the delay between Season 3 and Season 4 be that long *IF* everything is fine and dandy. The reality is that they have been on a very, very regular release schedule for 75% of the series thus far, and to fall off the pattern with no announcement whatsoever about future plans is reason for concern - right now!

Ultimately I believe they will finish the run. But every day that goes by whittles away at my confidence a little more. And well it should. We are talking about Fox, after all. They abandoned THE BIG VALLEY right in the middle of a season set! That's the worst thing I've seen as of yet in the entire TV on DVD marketplace. To abandon a show right in the middle of a season? Unthinkable. Yet that's what they have done. So I believe we should be concerned about Season 4.

If a year goes by... Forget it. How about if 5 more months go by without a release date announcement. Since studios generally announce releases at least 3 months in advance, that will put us in July for an announcement about an October release. So if we don't have an announcement within the next 5 months then we will have gone beyond a year inbetween releases - and that's very bad news! Doesn't mean it's beyond being resurrected, but it does mean it's off Fox's radar entirely, IMHO.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Gary, I believe you are correct. This is Fox we are dealing with, and in spite of heavy competition for the title, I believe that hands down they are the worst. I have zero faith in them whatsoever. Other than the Irwin Allen shows, they have done absolutely nothing with their shows (not shows they acquired by buying other companies like MTM) from the 50s, 60s and 70s. And other than Remington Steele, they have not concluded the run on any other MTM show, the crown jewels in their catalog. If it was another company, no way would they stop with one season to go. Fox? Nothing they do would surprise me (except if they stopped repackaging Buffy releases).

DIGITAL RESTORATION!!!!!

As I said the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA multi-volume DVD sets are one of the few genuine fully restored and digitally remastered classic tv series releases (see the most recent message posting in the MY FAVOURITE MARTIAN discussion thread).

When this stellar DVD collection was initially marketed both the first (1964-65) and second (1965-66) seasons had already been completed which accounts for their rapid availability.

At this early period of time work had just started on the third season (1966-67) so that when the first two seasons had been released the third was by then already to go.

However, I think that full restoration of the fourth season (1967-68) hadn't as yet be started and this likely is accounting for the now apparent delay.

But I am still (stubbornly) confident that there will indeed be another VOYAGE release some time this year. Time will tell whether I am right on this or not!

Pertaining specifically to the VOYAGE tv series DVD releases I just don't want to rashly condemn 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment without any real justification at this point.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

From what I’ve heard its very doubtfull that we will see Season 4.

It seems that Sales for Season 3 were very poor. I’m quite shocked at this really, I know the Price was higher for the last Season what was released, ‘Season 3’ and many People say it was the worst Season but I thought it would have sold enough to get Season 4 out.

I Rank Season 3 and 4 of Voyage higher than Season 2 and 3 of Lost in Space and thats all on dvd even in region 2.

Anyway I can’t believe we are not going to see Season 4, I’m very let down by this and annoyed. I’ve purchased all the split Season releases so far, I though all other Voyage Fans would have done the same and then we would see a Season 4 dvd release. oh well.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Fox didn't send our site a review copy of Season 3 volume 2. Anyone else get this treatment? Nothing hurts sales more than refusing to do the little things to get the word out about the release.

Fox should bite the bullet, do a "limited collector's edition release" of Season 4 and see if it gets the more casual fans to pick up season 3, plus allow it to release a complete collection.

Fox seems to be running out of shows to stop releasing. Maybe they need to question the folks in marketing why they can't get any buzz action. and they need to stop using the lame flipper discs.

all the Voyage boxsets are on sale at Amazon for $15.99.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I live in region 2 land. We got Lost in Space first, I believe. They released all three seasons and then there was a boxset. Sadly there has been no sign of Land of the Giants, Timer Tunnel or VOyage to the Bottom of the Sea. However we have had the two seasons of the MAgnificent Seven which I would have thought would have been less popular than the Irwin Allen series. I thought that if Lost in Space was popular enough to merit a complete boxset then the other series would have got a release.
The prints used in Time Tunnel, VOyage and Land are excellent and I just don't understand why these classic shows have not made it to region 2 when some lesser remembered shows have. It is something that really amazes me about DVD ....that not always the most obvious shows are released.

I'm very, very sad to hear this news, James. Not shocked, but saddened. This will now mark a fifth series that I absolutely love that has been abandoned or indefinitely stalled for one reason or another. The other four are "LEAVE IT TO BEAVER", "HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL", "BIG VALLEY", and "DANIEL BOONE" (only one season short of being finished). Then there are other favorites like "HAZEL", "GREEN ACRES", "PARTRIDGE FAMILY", "QUINCY", "THAT GIRL" and "MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW." I guess we could add "BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" and "PETTICOAT JUNCTION", although they weren't really abandoned by a company. They just were picked up and continued by Paramount. And I could probably add "THE LONE RANGER" to the list because only one season was ever released (the 5th season) several years ago. But never any follow up. There are probably a few other 70's shows I could have added, but I've already listed far more than I expected when I started this reply. It's really shocking that there are so many abandoned shows out there.

If this is true, then I'm really disappointed but not surprised, since I knew the quality of the final 2 seasons were not as good as the first 2 and I knew some fans of the show weren't going to buy them but I had hoped FOX would have released all for seasons. I'm still going to hold out for a slight chance that I'll see an announcement on tvshowsondvd some day.

I just wonder how much damage this does to consumer confidence and to the industry in general. If people get disgusted and turned off to companies doing this crap it can't help but have an overall negative effect. I know all of the malarky about companies can't be expected to lose money, blah, blah, blah. But there also are other ways of looking at it such as overall good will, taking one for team, spending money to make money and how about just doing the right thing. And I guess pointing out that a show like Voyage has already made Fox tens of millions of dollars in syndication doesn't count for anything. But, whatever, these people are so stupid because by continually turning people off with this crap they will lose in the long run.

So all the other Irwin Allen shows get their complete run EXCEPT for Voyage?
Doesn't make sense at all, unless you consider the reasoning behind putting Land of the Giants out as one big set-perhaps Fox knew they wouldn't sell well as partial sets, so it was all or nothing there.

Okay, then Fox-give us a complete Season 4 set of Voyage, and call it a day-that's not much to ask, is it?

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

And Voyage was far the best out of all the other Irwin Allen shows and Voyage does not get a full Series release set unlike all the others. I know does not make sense at all.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I'm hoping against hope that this news isn't true...but as more and more time goes by it's becoming easier to believe that this may become another abandoned series. Come on, Fox...put out the last season of this sci-fi/adventure classic and let's end this thing! (I don't suppose begging could hurt). Like many, this is my favorite Irwin Allen show and it would be extremely disappointing to not have the complete series avaliable.

Any additional information/comments from the good staff of TVShowsonDVD.com on the remainder of this series ever seeing the light of day?

In the same shredder as the letters asking Fox to finish Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart Show, The White Shadow, Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere, WKRP in Cincinnati and just about anything they've done pre-1990. I've said all along that Fox is far and away THE worst company. Maybe now other people will realize it as well.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Not Surprised, Along With NYPD Blue and Hill Street Blues and Big Valley this will rank up there, but's let's face it Fox treated these series with Disrespect from Day one by placing them on Flippers. I think the thing that will save these series over times like it or not Is digital Downloading, I would'nt be surprised to see these series Finish up on Itunes or some other Service. And I would for one would take that over nothing in a heartbeat.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I am not surprised either. They evidently did enough sales to justify six releases. Now I'll always wonder if we would have seen the whole series if they released them in four season sets. They must have sold real poorly because I thought they would have released the final season not just for
profits but to help pay for restoration expenses. I wonder if this will be the
fate for a lot of longer running shows being released in the half season format. I will be crossing my fingers that The Untouchables, The Fugitive, and The Invaders get through the entire run.

There is alway hope, people. As has been stated in previous posts, perhaps the print mastering is taking a little longer...or, perhaps they are planning on a complete Season 4 set?
It really doesn't make any sense-all the effort they put into the other sets(stills, interviews, etc)-and then decide enough? I'm gonna live in hope; it's all we can do.

Well if thats the reason for the delay in Season 4 then we should have heard something by now from Fox, at least let us know its definitely coming. There has been lots of discussion about Season 4 on "Seaview Yahoo Group" There is a member on there who has a friend who works at Fox and that person has heard about poor Sales and been put on the backburner.

Anyway so the reason we have not heard about Season 4 is probably because of poor Sales and not that they are planning on releasing a complete Season 4 box set. I'd love if that was the case though but looks like its not.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I would have expected a full season four set to have occupied the slot that should have been taken by the final half-set. By past history, that would already have been announced.

I hate to say it, but I rather suspect that Fox have dumped this, or at least, kicked it into the very long grass.

After all, they can always just repackage Buffy...again.

Fox care nothing for the series (except how to make money off it) or the fans (except the money they can make off them).

They will dump a release the minute the bean-counters say it;s fallen below a certain profit margin. It matters nought that this is 3/4 of the way through the release, or that it will disappoint the loyal fans who bought all the other sets - including the ones that bought them under the illusion that a full release was on the cards.

The marketing has been horrible. In an attempt to keep "set" prices low to entice buyers, we got half-season sets, which lead to a painfully slow release rate and diappointment from buyers who said "pfft! 13 episodes?"

It is truly bizarre that Land of the Giants got it;s full, deluxe release, whilst poor old Voyage (arguably, the best known and most popular - and certainly the most prolific and longest lives of the IA series) has got shafted.

And it;s the one I want most. Of course.

It;s conceivable that there are rights issues (say, with a guest star) but you;d have thought Fox would have cleared the whole series before starting.

We may get a season four in, for example, the pre-Halloween season. Maybe.

HAVE SOME FAITH!!!!!

I still believe that a fourth season (1967-68) DVD release of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA is indeed forthcoming.

Bear in mind that the first three previous seasons were released in amazingly rapid succession which certainly must attest to this particular tv premium's marketability. Even if the sales of the third season (1966-67) were not satisfactory it was still an excellent two volume set and those who deliberately missed out or have not bothered to acquire them should certainly reconsider this. Take my word for it in the third year VOYAGE is still a colourfully entertaining show to be sure with much to recommend it (solid performances from the series cast members, great guest stars, unusual and exciting menaces, and edge-of-your seat thrills and harrowingly intense suspense a plenty).

Even as we speak the three previously released seasons are still being bought from store shelves or online retailers somewhere so (very likely) 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment is delaying the eventual fourth season release until it is deemed the strategically correct time to do so (why compete with what is still selling?). In this light the season three VOYAGE two volume sets can still turn a (belated) profit.

Remember we are talking about four seasons (which will translate into 8 separate volumes) not to mention the variety of selection and competition from other tv series being made available on DVD. Right now the DVD market is (over) saturated with choice! Being the final season there is obviously nothing left to follow so Fox likely feels no great urgency in marketing the remaining outstanding VOYAGE season.

The best most convincing argument that can be presented here is that there is but a single season of VOYAGE left remaining...that's certainly not going to bankrupt anyone and in the broader scheme of things its inevitable DVD release (either as a single or two volume set) will probably do a lot of good!

MARY TYLER MOORE in particular is a very poor example to draw a comparison with as it never did especially well from the very outset and it has consistently failed (at least) three times now!
