When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!! - Page 25

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

The release pattern for VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA has not been totally consistent. The dates were:

Season 1.1 - 02/21/06
Season 1.2 - 07/11/06
Season 2.1 - 10/24/06
Season 2.2 - 02/20/07
Season 3.1 - 06/19/07
Season 3.2 - 10/23/07

As you can see, the pattern is consistent for the February and October releases, but the two summer releases differed by around a month.

Since there are only two left to go, perhaps the marketing types are looking at the fall of 2008 for the final release (when sales are bigger). That might mean that a February release won't happen this time - perhaps they'll shift it to April or so so space them out.

All theories and guesses about the future - no facts.

I figured someone would misunderstand my post after proof-reading it, but I didn't feel like clarifying. My bad for that. What I'm saying, Harry, is that if you look at the TVShowsonDVD.com "News" section you will see that the basic pattern for release news (not releases themselves) have been such so that we were getting some news every 4 months - on average. Going over 5 months since the last Volume was first announced (7/23) is a bit of a stretch, based on previous news announcements. It wasn't the actual release dates I was saying was consistent, but the news. If you look at the dates of the news items you'll see that we generally go 4 months in between release news. That is fairly consistent. But we've now gone over 5 months since hearing any news at all.

Gary "at this point we certainly will not see Season 4, Volume 1 until at least April" O.

I don't put anything past Fox when it comes to abandoning shows. Although I would think they would want to get the final season out so they could then sell full series sets.

I e-mailed Gord over at tvshowsondvd.com and he hasn't heard a word about a future release. February is right around the corner.

Ok, now you have me concerned. Not panicky, but definitely concerned.

I'd say it could be close to panic time. Alert level raised to Defcon 2.

I believe we will hear something on the fourth season release by March! Hopefully, it will be one set! The set will probably be out by June. This is all a guess, hopefully, a good one!

Well here we are in the final weekend of January and there's still no news on VOYAGE season four. I sure hope something turns up before too long as I'd really like to complete the Irwin Allen '60s series.

I mentioned this on the VTTBOTS guestbook (though I've yet to see my post there) in the hopes that someone might have some insight. By the way, Harry, was it you that supplied the S3 end credits painting as wallpaper over at vttbots.com? If so, thanks!

Yep. That was me.

I guess I forgot to share that here, but now that it's up at the vttbots.com site, anyone can grab it.

The story behind is that if you go looking for that painting in the end credits, you'll find that there's always some white-lettering credits on top of it. I went through numerous end credits screens cutting and pasting various parts of the picture that were in the clear until the full painting was viewable. I never found the picture anywhere else, so I adopted a do-it-myself attitude. Then I wanted to share it with other fans, so I sent it to both the vttsbots site as well as our Time Tunnel Fan Forum where there are a number of Irwin Allen fans.

The original, slightly larger 1280x960 version of the Voyage season 3/4 end credits picture is available here.

I'm not worried (yet), FOX has come this far with the series, they can't give up now I won't start getting concerned for another few months, I'm hoping we get the next release before or by summer.

Reason would seem to dictate that we not be worried yet. Still, I can't help but be a little concerned. We are definitely off the tried and true schedule we've seen for all these split-season releases up to this point. It sure would be nice if Dave or Gord could just get an affirmation from Fox that the series has not been put on hold.

Based on previous releases, we really should have heard something by now about Season 4, Volume 1. We really, really should have.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Were the Sales very bad for Season 3 vol 2 that Fox have decided not to releace the fourth Season? if Fox have cancelled the Fourth Season that may be the reason or were the Sales on the last set good? If so then I can’t see why Fox would not release the last Season.

I'm hoping for a release later in the Year as a complete Season 4 box set.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I doubt that the sales were bad for the last release. How long did it take for the release of the last season of lost in space from the previous release of Lost in Space ?

I doubt this will happen. I think Fox still plans on releasing the remaining 2 half season sets so that down the road they can release an entire series box set with extras not included in prior releases. I think even the execs at Fox must realize that most fans of the show are completists and will want all 8 sets. What probably went through their minds is that sales for S3 fell below expectations, which is understandable given that it was probably "Voyage's" weakest year and are just sitting on this a bit longer than usual.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

If I remember correctly, the third season was more expensive than season 2. The price for the first season was in the upper $20s. The second season was in the lower $20s. The third season went back to the first season prices even though there were fewer episodes. It seems to me the price should be lower than the first season because again there are fewer episodes.

It is indeed more expensive, Francis and it's actually the main reason why I haven't purchased it yet. I'm not crazy about S3 and I'm trying to get this for under $20 as I have with the previous sets. So if enough fans are of like mind, might this be hurting sales to the extent that Fox is sidelining S4...? I want to support the completion of VTTBOTS but is rather aggravating when I go to Best Buy and see S3 vol. 2 listing for $34.99 and S2 vol. 1 showing a tag of something like $21.99.

I don't mind paying a little more for this series' DVDs, it's one of the few shows that I'd pay full price for

There's still a good chance that we will get a season 4, vol.1 announcement soon. Just because FOX off schedule with this show, doesn't mean anything. There is always hope

Yeah but how far off schedule? 6 months? 1 year? 5 years? 20 years?

If it means getting the final season, then I could wait 6 months to a year or more. It would give me a chance to pick up other shows in the meantime

When I said 5 or 20 years I was just joking, so it could be 3 years or more until we see Season 4? That is ridiculous. I see Fox didn't let Lost in Space and Land of the Giants Fans to wait long untill they got their full series. It would be nice if Fox just let Voyage Fans know that they will release the final Season within this year.

I'm with you all the way on this one, Michael. I'd be very, very shocked if Fox abandoned their half-season release pattern for this show at this point. There's only one more season so I still expect to see a Season 4, Volume 1 and a Season 4, Volume 2. Then, like you said, I expect them to eventually release the entire series together.

Unfortunately season 4 isn't a whole lot better than season 3. But I'm in because it's one of my favorite childhood shows.

That isn't an Irwin Allen series and all of his other shows have been completed on DVD. I don't see why Voyage won't be, since it's his best series I will patiently wait for season 4's release. I'm looking forward to seeing the Vincent Price show "The Deadly Dolls" and episodes like "Sealed Orders" and bring on the cheesy monster shows too.

So, should we be worried yet? I worry about anything Fox puts out. They have so little regard for their pre-80s catalog, even worse than Universal. While reason and logic dictate that they will complete the series so they can then sell full series sets, this is Fox we are dealing with. As for myself, I am worried. This is the company that owns the MTM library, perhaps the most quality shows in any one place, and they haven't completed one series from that library. I don't put anything past them when it comes to abandoning a show.

THE FOURTH SEASON!!!!!

There is no definite rule that says a DVD distribution company must rigidly adhere to a strict release schedule and so far 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment has (somewhat) spoiled VOYAGE fans with its rapid release of the first three seasons.

Perhaps our friend Michael (unintentionally) gave the most likely reason for this (apparent) delay of the fourth season (1967-68) DVD release in that sluggish sales of season three (1966-67) may well be a possible factor.

Albeit I am (reasonably) confident that the VOYAGE multi-volume DVD sets have maintained its devout hardcore supporters and have turned a respectable profit nonetheless.

Speaking for myself I have purchased all three previously released seasons of VOYAGE and would very much like to see this splendid classic 1960s SF tv series DVD release completed.

On the basis of firsthand experience I really must say that the firstclass video transfers used for this absolutely marvellous DVD collection are positively outstanding much better than anything else I have seen on the legitimate retail sales market pertaining to classic tv series being released on DVD. I cannot commend (and recommend) this extraordinary DVD collection highly enough!

If people out there really want to have the fourth season released then get out there and purchase the previous three seasons of VOYAGE...that more than anything else will influence Fox Home Entertainment to continue on!

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

While it's true that there's no definite "rule" that says a company must adhere to a particular release schedule (something, by the way, no one here is arguing) it does say something when a company releases half season sets of a series at regular intervals and then suddenly stops the releases when they get to the last season. Seems to me that fans of the show have every right to be concerned, even worried, about the status of Season 4 at this point.

When we take into view Fox's erratic behavior with vintage tv to begin with, it's pretty obvious that anything could happen. Heck, we are dealing with a studio that has apparently abandoned a show in mid-season!! I'm talking about BIG VALLEY, which saw the first half of Season 2 released over a year ago! And we can't even get them to finish off that season? I mean really. They can't even finish off a season of one of the better westerns of all time?!! I put nothing by Fox at this point. And while logic would seem to dictate that they finish off this last portion of their IA catalog, who the heck knows at this point...

Gary "TV on DVD collecting can sure be a frustrating hobby - that's for sure" O.

If the Seaview was populated by hot teenage girls, instead of middle aged men, battling the monsters, Fox would have finished it by now.
