Gary "not as big on the 'monster' seasons, but I will certainly pick this one up" O.

The first half of season 3 at least is not altogether different from the latter half of season 2 in that fairly straight drama is about co-dominant with the sub bound monster episodes. You'll find that "The Day the World Ended", "Day of Evil", "Deadly Waters", "The Haunted Submarine" and "The Lost Bomb" were done in the mold of season 2 shows. The last half of the season is another matter...

As for some studios being slow to release subsequent seasons and half seasons, that is certainly frustrating to me as well. And then at the other extreme there is Goldhill Entertainment which has just announced seasons 5 and 6 of "Daniel Boone"! Why can't Fox (and especially Paramount) release their shows in similar fashion for series "Voyage", "Untouchables" and others?

Voyage to the Bottom of Sea: Season 2, Vol. 1
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: Season One, Vol. 1
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Season 1 Vol. 2

Thats because for the most part smaller studios are run by those who know and actually like and care about the shows they are releasing and the big studios Home Video departments are usually run by young whipper snappers with the attitude of "who's gonna buy this old crap anyways".

THE VIDEO TRANSFERS ARE MAGNIFICENT!!!!

In response to Michael's recent message post it is interesting that looking at the superbly pristine online video samples taken from the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA - SEASON THREE, VOLUME ONE 3-disc set the episodes do remind me very much of VOYAGE's second season (1965-66) especially the one sampling taken from "Werewolf" (25/09/1966) where the churning waters could be seen outside the Seaview's main observation windows.

I think that the excellent video transfers are interesting even the series' most doubtful skeptics in purchasing this (what has proven to be an) extraordinary DVD collection.

I concur with Harry that 4 months per new set (Is that all it really is each shot?!) isn't too long to have to wait for the next volume release.

If anyone here is really that impatient (and there is certainly nothing objectionable to such zealous enthusiasm) you still have a good two seasons and a half of VOYAGE episodes now in your possession that can be viewed again in the interim.

It is what I have said all along that these classic 1960s SF tv series are heads above infinitely more exciting and entertaining than the run-of-the-mill television programs...and that (most definitely) includes THE INVADERS!!!!!

Just wait and see!

Eight months a season strikes me as being slow. It's taking longer than it would to broadcast them an episode a week!

The Invaders, by the way, is now up for pre-order here in the UK - or the first season is anyway.

...the way it was in the '60's, too! (when you figure in summer rerun season.)

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

The listing for The Invaders Season 1 on Amazon UK says 1995 and has Scott Bakula. Unfortunately it looks like the dreadful mini-series.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

The listings are all over the place. Other stores are showing it as the '60's series with different stars and different runtimes.

I hope they are right, I have no interest whatever in the 1995 piece of garbage.

There are also very different prices at different stores, with some listing this as low as £7.99

Itis possible that they are releasing both series.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I phoned the sales line at Paramount UK. You have to know the number which they never advertise anywhere.. :-))

Anyways they confirmed the release is the original series.

They thought that another studio might be releasing the remake (apparently they don;t have the rights to this) and stores have confused the two with each other.

They said that four discs is far too much for 169 minutes and that the RRP of £29.99 would be far too high for that runtime.

Would explain why the release is showing as one disc at some stores at £7.50 but four discs at £23-ish at others, but with some showing the original cast and others the remake cast etc etc.

Any reason that the last three posts in this thread couldn't have been put in THE INVADERS thread?

has David Hedison spoken about the secret of looking 20 years younger? I wouldn't imagine the guy was 80 from his interview segments.

The secret is that the interview were conducted back in 1994/95 for THE FANTASY WORLD OF IRWIN ALLEN. Selected portions of the interviews were included on that DVD/VHS, and the rest of the interviews seem to be trickling out with each of these DVD volumes. So if he's 80 now, then he would have been 67/68 at the time the interviews were taped.

He still looked 60 at the time. But damn those guys for pulling a fast one.

Though I wouldn't necessarily consider it a "fast one", it would have been informative to have included the date of the interviews somewhere on the package.

They mention the 1966 audio interview's date, so why not the 1995 main ones?

Hey, at least they are including *something* as an extra added attraction, unlike the rather barebones MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE sets.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I'm just grateful we get the interview tidbits that we do get. So many sets are released with little or no extras, interviews, etc. To hear Hedison reminisce about the show even a little bit is a real treat. I wish they would include more, but considering that we did get at least something and how marvelous the show looks after the remastering...things could be infinitely worse.

I wish they'd put them out a tad faster, too. On the other hand, some shows get dropped completely, wait a year or longer before another season appears...I'm just thrilled to death to actually have 2.5 seasons of Voyage looking so darn good on DVD. I'm still mostly enjoying them on my own (nobody else seems as interested in Voyage's brilliance around my house), but that's ok.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Something I noticed on the third season DVDs: they include a French soundtrack for the first time - and if you listen to that track during the opening credits, there's no announcer, allowing you to hear the theme played in full without being abruptly edited because of the "...brought to you by..." being excized.

You can hear the volume lower at the part where the announcer would speak.

Seasons 1 and 2 didn't include a French soundtrack.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I picked up Season 3, Vol. 1 and am happy that the first 3 episodes have played without any problems and there aren't any physical problems with the discs themselves. I like the darker design on the spine of the box and the new menu designs, except for the lettering of the titles. I enjoyed The Day The World Ended the most of what I've seen so far. Werewolf was pretty enjoyable.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Ever notice there are no female guest starts in 3rd or 4th season? (Except for "The Mermaid" with Diana Webber that reused footage from her 1961 film "Mermaids of Tiburon?)

The reason - Irwin Allen figured out he could save money on the series without female guest stars - since he wouln't need the seperate and additional make-up artist, hair stylist and costumer for the actresses.

as Paul Harvey would say, "...and now you know the rest of the story!"

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that, but I'll definitely give it a listen now.

I had a good time watching through Inferno the other day. As a kid, no matter how many times I watched it, I always got a little nervous when they had to pull the reactor control rods out. You know - that thing could go critical!

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I just finished Season 3, Vol. 1 and I enjoyed all of the episodes more than I expected too. The monster episodes were entertaining but The Plant Man was the weakest episode on the set. The ending was predictable and the monsters were really silly looking. Couldn't help chuckling. I didn't mind the others. The best shows were Deadly Waters, Lost Bomb and Death Watch. I wish the Hedison interviews were longer but the Comic Book gallery was great. I'm also really happy with the video on these sets and that this one played without any problems what so ever. Can't wait for Vol. 2. I love this show.

One thing that's getting me is the price of S3V1. Anybody notice that it's around $10 more than any other set so far? Or is this an illusion caused by me getting S2V2 for about $16.99 at a Best Buy sale?

For comparison's sake, S3V1 is selling there for $33!

It has been higher than the Season Two sets, for sure, but about on par with the pricing of Season One.

I bought mine online for around $27 with a few bucks for shipping.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I was a bit surprised after having picked up the s2 sets for under $20, but even $30 seemed a small price to pay to get more Voyage on DVD. I just watched The Day The World Ended last night and had a blast with it. I usually savor the episodes and spread them out so I don't go through the set too fast.

Excellent news!
Can't wait to see the rest of s3. Getting closer to having it all now. It will be nice to hear that Basehart interview. Considering the age of the show and how many shows have nothing in the way of extras, at least we're getting a little something.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I wonder if it was intentional that the side spine for the Season Three Volume 1 package doesn't quite match up with the prior spines. The older ones had "To The Bottom" bunched up on two lines of text, in the correct "font", while the new one has those three words all on the same line.

Personally, if they continue through Season 4 with the second style of logo, I'm OK with it, since Season Three sort-of marked a change in the direction of the show. But, if they somehow revert to the older way of printing the logo on the spine, then Season Three Volume One will just look out of place on the shelf.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I got through with my set (s.3, p.1) a few days ago. Even though the quality of the series has obviously slipped, I still managed to derive a decent amount of enjoyment from it. Maybe there's just something inherently relaxing about watching the crazy, colorful menagerie of the Seaview zipping along the ocean bottom, the crewmen being tossed about like a salad at every moment of turbulence, and a constantly befuddled-looking Sharkey cracking wise, all while some comic-booky monster is running around. I do very much prefer the earlier episodes, with their more varied plots and locales, but, like I said, these still make for easy-going, relaxed viewing... even though I do wince a bit at seeing such a fine actor as Richard Basehart having to contend with such often-ridiculous scripts.

I'm very glad to see some Basehart interviews, been waiting for those since these sets were first released. I just wish they were longer. I'm also glad Vol. 2 is coming out in October. I've enjoyed season 3 very much so far and am looking forward to the second half. I do prefer the more varied episodes of the earlier seasons but these are good too, the cast make them work

THE FINALIZED PACKAGING DESIGN!!!!!

Well, here it is! And very nice looking too!

It is very gratifying that the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA multi-volume DVD sets have progressed extremely well indeed. It will be somewhat sad when it all finally finishes...simply on the basis of the lousy stuff that continues to be made available on DVD.

Albeit I am looking forward to rediscovering the ROUTE 66 (CBS 1960-64) tv series again.

Why can't these distribution companies take the cue from 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment and make available (in quality) DVD collections other classic (pre-1970s) SF tv series like ROCKY JONES, SPACE RANGER, SCIENCE FICTION THEATRE, MEN INTO SPACE and THE INVADERS?

Just where would the inveterate SF fan be today if 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment hadn't courageously made available both VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA and THE TIME TUNNEL on DVD?!

If the current holding companies don't want to do it then license these errant tv properties out to the (more capable and reliable) independents who are likely most anxious to do so.

Looks good. And they continued not only the spelling out of the title on the spine, all on one line, but they've continued the aqua and blue color scheme so that the two season three sets will match on the shelf.

Nice job!
