Pretty much in agreement with the last 3 posters. Beautiful film that held my interest the entire way - visually and emotionally.
Three minor quibbles:
- There were a few scenes early on with some sped up film that seemed jarring and didn't feel right. One example was when Mei was thrown into the water just before being captured (after the Echo game). Minor point as I don't think I saw that again afterwards.
- I was really hoping to see more of the House of Flying Daggers...Near the end we see all the government soldiers moving in on their headquarters. I was expecting a big showdown between sides and was wondering if that was the trap that was set. Don't get me wrong - it served the film better not to get caught up in that and focus on its 3 main characters (in their final battle in the snow), but you can't blame a guy for wanting more spectacular action...
- I wish Zhang Ziyi hadn't been dressed in men's clothing for half the film...
